The report from the Bills is simply he is week to week, yet this reporter indicates 4-5 weeks. Maybe it will be this timeframe, but to me this is speculation as the bills usually don’t give out timeframes unless season ending like an ACL, or Achilles. So I’m going to remain hopeful he cuts that guesstimate by a week. Shakir is young and normally pretty healthy. There have been exceptions to timeframes like AP who cam back months before expected and killed it after his ACL. Granted these examples are usually the exception, not the norm. So my positive attitude is he makes it back no later than four weeks. He’d have a week before the Ravens game, so to me it’s not an absolute he misses that game. Probably, but not a fact he’s missing the game. 1 1 Quote
ScottishBills Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I almost hope for the opposite. High ankle sprains notoriously linger, presumably as in-season you just get back out there before its 100%. Almost rather miss the first couple weeks even if its at 90%+ - and come back only when its 100% - its a long old season - and no matter how good Shakir is, playing slot is one of the easier positions to replace with the players we have 1 1 Quote

Yeah, I mean, I guess it could be worse if he tore his ACL… but as for non-tear injuries, this one sucks A LOT. This the type of injury that could bother him the entire season if he doesn’t fully heal before playing on it. 2 4 Quote

Gregg Posted August 4 Posted August 4 They haven't even played a preseason game and it feels like the injury bug has hit them hard in TC. Hopefully he will be back for the opener. Now Beane needs to call the Commanders and see what is going on with McClaurin. 1 1 1 Quote

It’ll be interesting to see if Keon is the guy to whom they choose to give Shakir’s slot snaps. Pre draft I thought he was a slot only WR as well - and I didn’t really love him in that role. Still, he’s on the team and I do really like his YAC potential. If he has learned a way to quickly uncover and/or has improved his contested catching, then he could show out in the role. I’d expect the coaches to give him a chance there if he’s earned it in practice. Quote

In an era where these guys barely hit anyone in training camp, and the entire purpose of the preseason now seems to be to stay healthy, the number of injuries is really unbelievable. I doubt you could have this many injuries if guys were in pads, running suicide drills in two-a-day practices. Edited August 4 by mannc 1 Quote

wjag Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Same ankle he hurt last year. Saw some internet doctor explain the injury. Says 4-6 weeks is likely. And even then, ankle will be subject to re-injury. He went on to say that straight ahead would be no issue, but cutting would be. Likely to linger for whole season as he will he putting pressure on it throughout... Quote

As a few others have said, yes, they can linger if done mid season because you can't take 4-6 weeks off from practicing / playing in games. He has that ability to do so now and not push it. He'll be fine and this shouldn't linger. Quote
Dillenger4 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 These sprains do linger. Everyone is different - but it is very common that the ankle injuries linger. This is Shakirs second sprain on the same ankle. I wonder if Beane is making calls. Or is it Moore time? Kincaid and Knox on field at all times? hmmmmm interesting times for The Bills. Quote

Max Fischer Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Wouldn't be surprised to see Shakir back in three weeks. Quote
