$$$ has to come from somewhere.  Our OL is heading into year 2 of gel'ing.  I get what you mean, but I'm 100% OK trotting Ray-Day out there to get it done.  Minimal drop-off when you consider the things he does better.  Pass blocking, catching.  Not route running, but catching for sure.

Exactly...first of all we all know Micah will sign with Dallas.  It's what Jerry does.  He'll wait too long and pay way more than he had too.  We have as much chance to acquire Parsons as Garrett.   0%

It’s a benefit of those players, sure. especially if they hit insane ceilings early.
 

By the same token, would you rather have random mid tier FAs/other draft picks in the roles of Kincaid, Elam and Hairston and have Parsons instead?

I don’t. First round picks aren’t playing on peanuts and we are never picking higher than 25. Those picks are pretty much lower ceiling compared to the rest of the first round and not that cheap.

 

I get it. Next year, pick 28 could be a player as good as Parsons and be 10x cheaper. And thats very valuable. But it’s much more likely they just won’t be as good/valuable as Micah.

I hear your logic, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.  The only position I might take a swing like that for is QB.

Since you mention the $$$, I looked around and asked earlier, but I haven’t seen what a reasonable contract expectation would look like. If Myles Garrett got $40 Mil/year, what does this look like? I’m not saying he’s Garrett but just looking at recent deals. 

 

Draft pick compensation is only one part of the equation. I’d like to know both sides of the deal.

Augie, i'm far from a contract/cap buff, but thats good framework.

 

Maxx Crosby AAV is ~ $37.5/year. 

I like Crosby overall more, hes elite pass rusher, better in the run game, but Micah's pass rush ability has higher ceiling/output.

When you consider the "next man up" way elite contracts work (especially premium position).... i see him dead middle between Max and Myles..... 

 

~~$38/$39m per year.  IMO, definitely no more than $40m.  Getting matching $40m wouldnt shock me.

 

When you get over the sticker price, it's the 2nd most important position in football.  Its a passing league.  He gets sacks sure, but he generates pressure fast!!  Important against the Mahomes/Tua quick release types.  NFL salary cap is booming year to year.  In 2 years, nobody bats an eye at that deal (barring catastrophic injury).

Beane would be negligent not to make jerry an offer.  Would probably have to include Cook in any trade package.  Cook, Bosa, and 2 first rounders for Parsons and one of their RB’s.
