I won’t hate on Von like I assume many in here will. Al, it is a good team for him to be on. Both sides get the benefit. Even if he only has a limited/OK season it will help the Commanders out. The leadership he brings is so damn important, too. 1 Quote

I'm not a Von apologist, I agree he's washed, but in a third of the snaps he had the same number of sacks and a butt load more QB pressures. It's more of an indictment of Epenesa. 1 Quote

We weren't in a Super Bowl window with Dockery; at that time, no one wanted to come to Buffalo. We had all this cap money but no one to spend it on. When his contract was up, so was his cap hit. 1 Quote

I just hope Von doesn't have a year with the skins like Dareus had with the Jags. Sure those 11 games were fun, but this year we carry over $15M in dead cap from the Von contract and the defense is in much worse shape than it was pre Von contract. We’re middle of the pack for dead cap carryover, if I’m not mistaken. Im just not sure what we would do with that $15M if we had it right now? Who is that guy that’s available to be the “missing piece”? Is there a pass rusher or receiver available you want us (or wanted us) to go get? Everywhere else we have guys they’re not paying someone to supplant… they want our starting Safeties to be Rapp & Bishop, they likely want Hairston to win CB2 opposite Benford as CB1. Taron in the slot. They want a healthy year from Milano & Bernard. OL is elite, with promising depth they are high on. We’re not signing a RB or TE. Our QB is Josh Allen. That leaves WR & DL. They identified Palmer as “the guy” rightly or wrongly, we’ll see, and paid him well. They then drafted 2 DL early and another top end of RD4, while signing Bosa when it became apparent Crosby & Garrett weren’t being moved, then gave a multi-year deal to Hoecht and signed Ogunjobi. We’re in a weird situation with precautionary injuries and suspensions on the DL, but are we at a point where we need that 15M to desperately sign a missing piece mercenary edge or a DT? What WR move could we have made if we had that 15M? Yes, it would be great to have that money instead of having to manipulate a contract to free up in-season money, of course … but I guess my point is just what could Beane have done that would’ve put us over the top had he not signed Von? Chandler Jones was the other big fish and he had a whole other series of issues. Now, more than ever, we’ve got to find a way to hit on draft picks. Rams with Von were the only time I can remember in recent memory that a big name was moved (that was in-season) and it paid off. Big names are rarely moved or become available. You’ve got to hit on picks. Although.. I’ll admit.. I’m jealous we didn’t make the move for Derrick Henry. Love Cook, but yeesh.. that’s a move that maybe should’ve been done and could’ve helped us against the Chiefs when the Offense was stagnant early. 1 Quote
skibum Posted July 17 Posted July 17 It's always a sad moment when the big FA signing finally leaves without making a SB happen. Thankfully, it will not have a major impact on the Bills' success this season. I don't blame Von, it just wasn't meant to be. 2 1 Quote

No idea how folks can harbor ill will for guys going to get paid when they can’t get a job in Buffalo. I agree, I actually feel bad that he didn’t have a better option, it was gross and pathetic seeing him in that feminine uniform unable to perform at his previous all pro level. Sad to watch but I’m sure his wife felt no such emotions while spending that Stephen Ross money. Quote

Rigotz Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I almost made a new thread about this, but suppose we can just discuss here. Is Von the most hated Buffalo Bill in recent history? The domestic violence suspension, underperforming the contract, saying he’d be back in a week then staying out the year… I think he redeemed himself a bit by agreeing to the incentive laden contract last year (which was likely to try to game the system around his suspension)… but I think he’s my #1 most hated. Willis McGahee is a close #2 with the trash talking of Buffalo women on his way out. What an awful regime to draft him in the 1st when we already had Travis Henry and he had just completely torn his ACL. 1 Quote

Coming in fresh with easy pass rushing opportunities he really should've produced more than he did. 1 Quote

Logic Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Good signing for them. All static and bluster aside, he's still a useful and productive player, health permitting. Top 15 in pass rush win rate last year and collected six sacks, despite missing four games. He's still got some juice. 1 Quote
