billsfan89 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago 2 hours ago, SoonerBillsFan said: Why do you think Defense has been the priority this offseason? Outside of WR (which the Bills addressed by signing Palmer and now Moore and I suspect if it is an issue in season they will make another move there) the Bills offense had no major issues. Offensive line was/is a top 4 unit in the league with solid depth/development in place (and they added another prospect there late in the draft). RB room is in my opinion a top 10 unit in the league and the TE combo also top 10 in the league. And of course Josh the MVP QB. Even at WR the unit still has a top tier slot WR and a prospect in Coleman coming off a solid rookie year at 21 years old plus solid vets in Palmer/Samuel and now Moore added in. The issues were the defense and the team imported a lot of talent in via the draft and free agency. 1 Quote
H2o Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Seems accurate to me, and makes total sense as to why we always come up short in the Playoffs. The defense has consistently failed us. I have said this before, and I will say it again. There is no QB who has done more, with less, than Josh Allen. None. He won an MVP last year with his WR's being a washed/injured Cooper, Mack Hollins, Shakir, an rookie who spent extended time on the injury report in Coleman, an oft injured or non-existent Curtis Samuel, and an invisible MVS. His leading receiver had 821 yds. His leading rusher just barely scraped 1,000 yds in the final game of the season. 40+ total TD's for the 5th season in a row, and your reigning NFL MVP. 1 Quote
Juice_32 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I've been saying it throughout the draft process. We. Need. More. Stops. 1 Quote

ddaryl Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Yes as the majority of posters have pointed out our issues are fully on the D side of the ball. The WR room was not an issue. We can always use upgrades but the focus was on the D side and for very obvious reasons. Allen should never be tasked to have to score more than 30 points every game 1 Quote
Don Otreply Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Well our defense has been a turnstile in the playoffs pretty much annually, just look at third & fourth down results, Beane did what he had to do, now, in theory, with new coaches and new player acquisitions, we may very well have a chance at a better result with our defense, and overall team success, always hoping for the best 👍 1 Quote
zow2 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago It often seems like when one team tries to copy someone else.. in this case the Bills trying to duplicate what the Eagles did to Mahomes, it fails. In large part because Mahomes/Reid will come up with new schemes to offset what the Eagles did. And we don't have the same personnel no matter how it looks on paper. Quote
Goin Breakdown Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) Didn't we already have top defenses with Josh as our Qb? These top defenses are included in the (only) 9 stops right? So yeah last year was bad but what's the excuse when we were statistically better? Coaching? Feeding off lesser teams padding stats? We were all there...... we talked about it over and over after every failed season. idk but while I have hop for the season I'm also cautious as to believing we're going to be the next eagles on D. The Firebaugh Kid Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago That is absolutely pathetic. It’s funny you don’t realize it when you’re in the moment watching the games sometimes but this defense has been such a letdown, especially in the big moments. Imagine if Allen didn’t have to work so hard… hopefully that’s this year 👏 Quote

Hopefully the offseason moves by Beane will pay off. now that we have 137 DL players on the roster I'd just love to think that 4 of them would be NFL quality I'd also love to think imma gonna win the lottery tonight Quote

The whole bend-but-don't-break defense may be fine in the Regular Season, but in the Playoffs they always failed us. They failed us in 2022 when Josh had us a lead with 13 seconds to go, they failed us in 2024 when it came down to a Bass kick to tie, and they failed us this year in the AFCCG again when it mattered most. 1 2 Quote
MJS Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago The really frustrating thing is that the Bills defense has played MUCH better against the Chiefs in the regular season. For one thing, they are usually more healthy, but also I think the players seem to come out fired up and ready to do whatever it takes to beat them, whereas the Chiefs come out like that in the playoffs. This past year, it was legitimately a talent issue on defense. We lost a lot of guys and then Benford went down, which caused serious problems in the secondary. But in previous seasons the defense has had the horses to get it done, but hasn't been able to to, although there were big injury issues in some of the other games as well (AJ Klein pulled off his couch to start at MLB, for instance). Let's hope we can get better injury luck, but also I think the players need to come out with more fire and more focus, similar to how they do in the regular season, and match that of the Chiefs in the playoffs. And the coaches need to be better at adjusting if things aren't working or if an unexpected injury throws a big wrench into the game plan (like Benford going down). Like always, though, the defensive line needs to get pressure. They disappear in every elimination game. Quote

Nihilarian Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Buffalo was 28th in defensive third-down stops last season, which is crazy bad. Seemed like little or no pass rush and a defective/injured secondary are the reasons, in my view. Wrist injuries, anyone? It seems like so many Buffalo players suffered from wrist injuries last season. It might be the reason why they changed trainers. What saved the 2024 Buffalo defense was their #1 turnover ratio at 24th. Pittsburgh was #2 at 18th. Let's also not forget that Bobby Babich was a rookie DC last season. Who called a lot more man coverages last season, too? That was probably the death knell for Kaiir Elam, as he was supposed to be a man-coverage guy. I think that the Eagles' defensive performance in that Super Bowl had a huge effect on the NFL world, in that every team now wants an Eagles defense. Quote

This is my thought as well. It doesn't matter the players when the scheme and coaching fail us. To be fair, it does look like some changes in philosophy may be ahead so we'll see. 1 Quote

I think it is a mixture of injuries, a failure of the players to meet the intensity of high stakes playoff football, and an inability to match and counter the scheming of KC. KC has this uncanny ability to find a way to win even when they are being outplayed for large portions of a game, but the way to beat the Bills is to play flawlessly on offense, because Josh Allen and the Bills offense will be dominant. And somehow the Chiefs keep managing it, even when they have had issues like oline talent and lack of receivers. It is frustrating. 2 Quote
