As for Beane, he traded a 3rd rounder for Copper because the receivers on this team struggle to get separation. It cost us in final drive against Chiefs in title game Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kincade's dropped pass cost us the final drive against the Chiefs? Quote

gjv Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of pass rush Oliver and Sanders generate. Quote
mjt328 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Oliver always seems to play better when he's got a solid 1-Tech playing next to him. He was considered a pretty big disappointment with Harrison Phillips (injured most of his final days here), Quinton Jefferson, Vernon Butler and Star Lotulelei as the other DT. Then he finally broke out when we signed Daquan Jones. He had a couple Pro-Bowl caliber seasons and signed an extension. Once Jones started seeing his play decline, Oliver disappeared again. Quote
Gisele Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I'm just growing tired of them putting so much effort into getting pieces to free up Ed so he can be productive. Shouldn't such a talented guy need less help? 1 Quote

Buffalo drafted some much bigger defensive players, Ed is small 6'1" and has a fairly big contract. Branden Beane needs cap space for the next superstar wide receiver. You probably don't care about stupid wide receivers but I do. Anyway.... I am hoping to get the horses too. 🐎 Quote

Sure John Randal played at a lighter weight but he was John Freakin Randal which Ed is not ! Aaron Donald will be a 1st Ballot HOF selection, 6'1" 280. Ed Oliver 6'1" 287. Quote
dorquemada Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I don't know, it seems Beane's plan is to run an ALL DL defense, we'll need every one of those guys to step up, even the short, overpaid ones Quote

But he'd have to be more than slightly underperforming to make it worth taking on that level of dead cap for a $2.5m saving, however you spread it across years for cap purposes. He'd have to be washed or a locker room issue. And I just don't see it. If he continues to be average at best AND the young guns are eating his reps, you take the savings and the roster spot. To me, the fact they have drafted 3 guys in the last 2 drafts and signed another that can/will play his position is a shot across the bow. Quote

I do think he's probably the player on the defensive line most capable of creating havoc in the interior over the last few years. But its a position thats... inconsistent statistically. Chris Jones went from 15.5, to 10.5, to 5 sacks and its not as if hey had less of an impact. They just blitz a lot and in that confusion - many players get home. Quote

And while he didn't play well for probably 2/3s of the regular season last year he was one of our best players down the stretch and in the post season. I don't see the young guys eating into his reps at all. 1 1 Quote

He carries a 32 million dollar Dead Cap hit. I'm kind of baffled with why so many posters are looking at the improvements we made on the Line and rather than thinking we've improved the rotation - are like "cool now we can trade some people away". It isn't an improvement in depth of rotation if we're just moving one person out for another. This ^^^^ cutting or trading Oliver now makes absolutely mo sense. Why do people think the Bills after having a terrible 3rd down D last year, would want to lose a key piece of the D line rotation? Quote

I grew up in South Wales He needs a solid 1T, or at least someone capable next to him to absorb OL otherwise he becomes less effective, which we have all witnessed. We are stuck with him for the near future but he hasn't been a difference make anywhere near the consistency that we are lacking in pass rush and the ability to stop playoff caliber run teams He costs to much to cut or trade, and we know we need to improve along the DL because it was completely obvious we struggled here. I don't see us being able to move on till 2027 if we don't see improvement with new bodies next to him. 1 Quote

Somethings missing in the translation that's why I mentioned John Randal, there are those 2 Aaron & John then there is Ed no comparison !!! Quote

This was the play, or more precisely, the miss-play that ended the series against the Chiefs. Has nothing to do with getting over anything. Quote
