What actually happened is a trainer did the ACL stability test on him, then after running it he extended his hand to help Hairston up and walk slowly off the field. If the stability test failed I doubt that would have been the trainer's response. Either way it's getting close to calling the competition for Tre. I don't see how Hairston can steal the job at this point given his struggles and now this injury, and with Tre looking pretty good in camp. Here's hoping. I'm not going to rush to judgement based on sideline chatter. An MCL would suck but he'd be back in the season and be able to get up to speed gradually As much as any lost time from Hairston would suck Im actually pretty bullish about our depth. I never got the "Bills have a need at CB" talk at draft time. As much as we give Dane Jackson grief he's pretty par for the course for CB2 around the league, not to mention you have Tre (who is looking solid so far) and Ingram (who I thought looked good in limited time last year), plus Dorian Strong as potential upgrades 1 Quote

wolfpack78 Posted Tuesday at 06:07 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:07 PM I played offensive line in college football and tore my ACL during a non-contact rep during fall camp. Felt a pop when it happened, but was able to finish practice and go about the rest of the day. Next day when I woke up it swelled up and my leg would 'give out' every tenth step or so... I didn't know for sure until the next day something was wrong (though the 'pop' should have been an indication). One of my teammates (also an Olinemen) tore his ACL in high school but played on it the rest of the year as his team was on a state title run. Point of all of this is that (in my experience) is that it's not necessarily a painful injury... just makes the leg very unstable. 1 1 Quote
pi2000 Posted Tuesday at 06:15 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:15 PM Even if he's OK, not a good sign for his long term durability... which was a concern for me at the draft. 4 2 1 Quote

My level of soccer a suspected achillies rupture would always have been a stretcher job whereas was pretty common for ACLs to walk off but I don't claim to be an expert. Quote
nosejob Posted Tuesday at 06:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:29 PM I wasn't happy with the pick. There will be a handful of Tariq Woolen types out of the mid to late rounds from this draft. Heck Strong may be starting before long. I just don't get these 1st round selections. I'm hoping this kid doesn't spend the year on IR. He just don't look like he is gonna be able to handle the business. 1 1 Quote

So I've never done my Achilles but I saw a few in person and I think the difference is how weird the leg feels...your calf sort of rolls up into itself and you can't really move the foot so you just feel like something is wrong ACL feels bad too but not maybe as apparent there is something seriously amiss so why not try to walk it off The ones that really need stretchers are those compound ankle fracture+dislocation where the heel is pointing sideways...seen a couple of those too and it's a look away type injury Quote

They are actually more common than the serious ligament injuries at the level I played and coached. Two of them were literally sickening. I am a tad squeamish at the best of times but I actually vomited on those occasions. Quote

Commish Posted Tuesday at 08:26 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:26 PM “Of all the ridiculous expressions people use - and people use a great many ridiculous expressions - one of the most ridiculous is 'No news is good news.' 'No new is good news' simply means that if you don't hear from someone, everything is probably fine, and you can see at once why this expression makes such little sense, because everything being fine is only one of many reasons why someone may not contact you. Perhaps they are tied up. Maybe they are surrounded by fierce weasels, or perhaps they are wedged tightly between two refrigerators and cannot get themselves out. The expression might well be changed to 'No new is bad news,' except that people may not be able to contact you because they have just been crowned king or are competing in a gymnastics tournament. The point is that there is no way to know why someone has not contacted you, until they contact you and explain themselves. For this reason, the sensible expression would be ;No news is no news,' except that it is so obvious it is hardly an expression at all.” ― Lemony Snicket, The Hostile Hospital 1 Quote
Dillenger4 Posted Tuesday at 08:41 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:41 PM Cmon Max - we need you buddy! Having Tre anywhere near the field is gonna be disastrous. 1 Quote
ShakAttack Posted Tuesday at 08:58 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:58 PM So, if it’s NOT a torn ACL, what are the possibilities here. Anyone know? Any time I hear non contact leg it seems to practically guarantee ACL or Achilles I remember Reggie Ragland years ago tearing both ACLs and was able to walk off the field immediately after. So the fact Hairston “walked off” doesn’t do a whole lot for me. 1 Quote

I got seen by Stop and Shop doctor who said my knee was alright. Weeks went by, my knee wasn't getting better. You know your own body, and I knew the Stop and Shop Dr was full of *****. I got second opinion. who ordered Xrays and MRI. I had a Grade III ACL tear Quote

So the fact Hairston “walked off” doesn’t do a whole lot for me. Was just about to say the same thing. The "walked off the field" means little to nothing. Many, many instances lately where players walk off the field just to be later diagnosed with a Torn ACL. That's not to say definitively that's what's going on here. Just to say the "good news is he walked off the field" narrative isn't worth much at all. Edited Tuesday at 09:17 PM by BillsFanForever19 Quote
