The Bills don’t have the $$ to trade for Hendrickson, as certainly he’d be looking for a sign-and-trade deal. I assume the "cast off" was Bosa. But with the draft investment with the guys we took among with Bosa and the PED twins, it's pretty clear that Beane has invested in DL this year and I would assume any other large investments in the spot is off the table for now. 9 hours ago, Doc said: Good points. I forgot about the fines just for missing mandatory minicamps and especially training camp. Players have gotten smarter. The ones on top of things do a "hold in" where they show to camp, attend meetings and lift..but don't partake in football activities. It does just enough to avoid the fines. 2 2 Quote

If there's a rash of injuries there I can see a trade deadline deal similar to when they traded for Douglas in 2023 but I think given the depth the Bills brought in that's not likely to happen. The Bills bolstered the short term mercenary part of the defensive line by signing Bosa and Larry O. They then got their moveable "chess piece" in Hoecht whose on a 3 year deal, and they got the younger developmental players who should be rotational players via picks in rounds 2-4. In addition the Bills have backend development pieces in Carter and Solomon from the previous draft and Groot who they locked in longer term. Plus AJE and D.Jones are still there on the last year of their contracts. 2025 just seems like a very crowded field post draft and free agency even with the "PED Twins" (hilarious nickname) suspended. I suspect the Bills will if they like their rookies/2nd year players ability to contribute might move on from AJE or D.Jones before the season starts and wait for the PED Twins to come back. Or if they feel like a lot of the rookies still need time to cook and Solomon and Carter aren't ready for bigger roles they will just "figure it out" after the first 6 weeks likely assuming there's gonna be an injury or two after a third of the season is up. 1 Quote
SCBills Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago With all the young, rookie contract talent Beane has on the DL, along with guys in multi-year deals.. I don’t know that we would be out in trading for Hendrickson if it makes sense. Youd really only be paying Hendrickson on a new contract, Rousseau and Oliver. Oliver, we can get out of that contract after this year if we want to. Rousseau, Hoecht, Jackson, Solomon are all here for the next 3 years and you could line up a Hendrickson deal within the same timeframe. On the interior, if Beane and our player development come through, you’d have Carter, Sanders and Walker on rookie contract for that timeframe as well. Would essentially confirm Bosa as a one year rental, but for one year the ceiling of our DL would be that of the Eagles last year. I think we bet on what we’ve done, which on paper could be a Championship Caliber DL by the end of the season.. but money-wise, they only really have actual money tied up in two guys for the foreseeable future. 3 Quote

Of all the unhappy players who wanted new contracts last season, there was only one player in the entire league who sat out games. Haason Reddick. And that was less about the contract and more about not wanting to play for the Jets after being traded there. When push comes to shove - players hardly ever give up game checks and pay fines on top of it. I think usually it ends up being a tagged player, and hendricksons deal is essentially a tag but less (his cash this year is 16M vs. 22M for a tag). He's made over 60M already in his career, so sitting out is a lot easier when you have that in the bank. He is about the same age as hunter and 1 year older than garrett - both had their contracts re-done this offseason. There's nothing for him after this year - 0 guarantee's, 0 void years. Based on cap hit for 2025 he's at 20th for DE's, based on cash for this year he's 27th. 58 sacks in 4 years with 11 forced fumbles, 1st team all-pro last year, and led all their linemen in snaps by a pretty large margin. They added a year and some salary prior to 2023 to lock him in through 2025, but i can't imagine he was happy with his contract last year either and after 35 sacks over 2 years and no sign of extension or raise in the immediate future - I really don't see him showing up to work for what is agreed upon. I think his future earnings take a hit if he holds out into the season, but if he gets hurt on his current deal then his future earnings probably take an even bigger hit. 1 Quote
