Buffalo Gets 4th round comp pick

This makes sense especially if the Bills are targeting WR with their first pick.  They could drop down a few slots, recoup a 3rd round pick and still have a nice selection of WR targets.

I’m ok with a move down, but it won’t recoup a 3rd unless they move down quite a ways.

This fan base is obsessed with comp picks lol What are the odds the guy we take with it matters? Slim to none.

A 3rd round comp pick is not negligible. Sure as hell isn't slim to none.

This is false. The NFL awarded 9 third-round comp picks in 2022. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-awards-39-compensatory-2022-nfl-draft-picks-to-16-teams

There were 8 last year too. Maybe when we aim to get a 3rd next time we'll let a WR walk. Honestly, I won't be shocked if Gabe Davis nets us a fourth given that he plays a premium dollar position.

Yea looking at previous years and the fact the other pick that was bumped down from an expected 3rd was the Jimmy G pick it must be playing time related. Where picks originally slot is based on market value so fluctuates year to year (the percentile of the total market the deal falls into). I thought they set the numbers on that but then bounced people down based on hires. But last year doesn't look consistent with that. @HappyDays must be right it is about missed playing time.

Yet another poster is saying the 4th rounders are really 5th rounders and the draft drops off after the 3rd lol

picks are lottery tickets and they lost 30 spots, not the end of the world and certainly shouldn’t alter Bean’s final destination, maybe just how he gets there.

Obviously San Fran has this figured out a lot better than the bills.  They have a 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.

This. I catch ***** for repeating on here how great the 49ers front office is. No one is close. I’m not saying they only hire minority coordinators just to get them hired elsewhere for comp picks.. but I’m also not saying they don’t do that. They have the best roster in football and they’re LOADED with picks. Don’t forget them fleecing Dallas by getting a 4th rounder for Trey Lance, a guy who will never take a snap for them outside of a Dak injury. O line help, another CB and a DL opposite Bosa is all they need and they’ve got lots of chances in this draft to hit on those spots plus trade up if they want. Not to mention they always make big moves in free agency so I fully expect them to make a big move here before the draft too. There’s a reason they are the favorites to win it all again next season too.

The 49ers have mastered the art of losing guys…filling guys in…having a great regular season cause of a weak conference and then choking at some point in the playoffs…rinse and repeat.

except it seems like they lose NONE of their many quality players.  I don’t understand how this works.

Niners traded for CMC because they knew the league would stockpile picks back to them. Disgraceful.

I was responding to the fella who said comp picks have slim to none chance of contributing. Naturally, a 4th round comp can make a difference, but what folks are unhappy about is losing the 3rd round comp, and in those terms, the individual that was dismissive of them was essentially saying it's no big deal, because comp picks in general don't matter.

Anyway, if you find that humorous, have at it. Seems to me the loss of a day 2 pick, even at the end of the third round, makes it harder for Beane to maneuver. The real blow is that folks were led to believe the formula was sufficiently understood, and that the 3rd was a safe assumption.
