Anyone remember last year when we were “right up against it” and kept signing players

I mean, yeah. But we were signing guys like Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harty, David Edwards, Damien Harris, Latavius Murray, Kyle Allen, Taylor Rapp, Ty Johnson and Connor McGovern with Leonard Floyd being the biggest star of the bunch.

We have even more holes to fill this season and even less than we had last season. We're still over the cap right now and the only thing we can guarantee by Day 1 right now is Josh's restructure. So we'll be continuing to do more signings "right up against it" just like last season. But there's a major difference between making signings "right up against it" and making MAJOR 32m aav signings "right up against it".

It's going to be similar signings to last year. Guys in the lower to mid tiers, possible diamonds in the rough, and guys available late in FA that have to accept less. Nothing at the highest price tag right out of the gate.

Any chance we don’t restructure Allen and take our medicine this year?

I believe that's what KC did, paying Mahomes something like $35 million. And they still won the Super Bowl. 😒

Now you got me confused :) It's still there.

OMG I'm such a dunce!!! LOL I wondered what you meant by two Matt Milanos and I clicked every page of his I could find, never thinking to scroll further down. Okay, we're finally on the same page, LOLOL.

And with that my response is . . . I haven't got a clue. By that I mean I haven't got a clue why those numbers are there in 2025 and 2026. But from everything I see you are totally correct that they shouldn't be. There was a time when they should have been, and my best assumption is when MM signed the new contract that removed the void from those years then those figures should have been removed and somebody from Spotrac forgot to. I can see that happening as they literally have close to 3,000 players to keep track of, and no doubt mistakes are made.

But yeah, those numbers are already, and rightfully included in their respective years, either under the prorated column where they belong or included in the listed dead cap figures of $17,253,000 for 2025 or $11,071,000 in 2026 should MM be traded or cut.

I'm with you. They don't belong there. Apologies for the confusion.

I'm surprised we haven't really seen really any movement in the cap the last few days.

Spotrac has us at 12,481,829 over the cap.  Once Haack gets added, that will increase overage by about 188K as Haack replaces Williamson in the top 51.

I wanted to try to guestimate how Beane looks at our roster.  So, I created a June 1 calculation spreadsheet with the 35 players under contract who are most likely to be on the opening day roster.  That number with almost $30 million in dead cap is $243,717,329.

The player breakdown is as follows:

Specialists (4)  Ferguson, Bass, Haack and Martin

Offense (17)

QB - Allen & Trubisky

RB/RB - Cook & Gilliam

TE - Kincaid, Knox, Morris

WR - Diggs, Shakir, Shorter

OL - Dawkins, Brown, Edwards, McGovern, Torrence, Anderson & Van Demark

Defense (14)

DL - Rousseau, Oliver, Miller, Jonathan

LB - Milano, Williams, Benard, Spector

CB - Benford, Douglas, T Johnson, Elam

S- Rapp, Hamlin

For another $4.1 you can also add Doyle (OT), Hamler (WR) and Ankou & Cline (DL)

It's the calm before the storm, Legal tampering starts tomorrow.

I will say not hearing Allen restructuring his contract yet is surprising. I wonder if he can tell the Bills no?

Have to believe that there are more restructurings and/or extensions coming so that we have enough cap space to fill out the roster.  Hope there are not more releases.

Well … they are going to have to make moves to get under the cap limit … so yes more moves are coming …

Been a strange few weeks … 90 percent of the moves came in that 4 hour window on Wednesday

I would imagine what comes next will be rapid fire like Wednesday.

Of course he can.  It would be kind of stupid.  He wants to win, and without his 23 million, his team will have no depth and lousy starters on defense.

Or, he wants guarantees his freed up money goes to help him and the offense.

That’s because Kevin Adam’s called Beane and asked,

”Is there anyway you can do something to get the heat off me?”

he absolutely cannot say no. It’s a mechanism in the contract that converts money, it doesn’t take it away. They do not need Allen’s approval or signature. A restructure is not a new contract.

It’s not up to him, he also has no reason to say no. He gets money up front, the Bills get cap space. Why would he possibly even consider saying no?

Depends on the contract.

The Bills don’t need to be under the cap until Wednesday correct?

So Beane could have freed up 30 Million and it hasn’t been reported or he’ll go after certain guys and depending who we land he’ll free the amount of space accordingly

I have heard it said by Greg Thomsett that all the Bills contracts are designated this way …that the player  can’t refuse to have the money “restructured” ..ie the base salary spread out over the course of the remaining years left on the contract  … I don’t believe it changes how they actually receive the payments over the course of that season..

Spotrac estimates we'll need 11,570,141 to sign our picks and it will cost cap wise 9,185,141.https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/

I'm sure you noticed they now have the draft pick cap hit estimate down to $7.5 million, and that will continue to come down as the roster expands.  At this point, I'm guessing the draft picks' impact on the top 51 cap number will be close to $2 million.
