About the Von situation, it was intriguing that McD used him as part of a 5-2 defense on Sunday.

Five D lineman and it produced a sack on its first try.

Maybe that’s a great way to get him reps on obvious passing downs?

I worry this week especially because his wide speed moves outside really open up running lanes for hurts. You gotta think they are watching the film and may try to target this.

Yep. If we put him on the field only in obvious passing downs, maybe it helps. And with the 5 D lineman, Groot should be there next to him.

But yeah, we need every game from here on out, Von's rehab can't take precedence over getting to the dance.

Yeah that doesn't mean much to me.  Home/Away what have you.  The only team they have blown out this year is Miami.  Almost all their games have been by one score.

It should mean prepare to get scored on in Philly.  Whether they hit their minimum, 28, or average, 32, or greater, we'll see.  But we were discussing the O/D and the point I was trying to make was that I wouldn't rely on our D for this game.

The Jets game then came up and I laid out how that was more big plays than steady consistent scoring drives, which it was.

As well, after the Miami game, they played better than we did vs. the Jets, put up more points and more yards w/o the aid of two drives starting nearly in the Jets' red zone, were better on 3rd-down-conversions and red zone conversions, in NY contrasted with at home, and turned the ball over three times contrasted with our 1, and got only 2 takeaways contrasted with our 4.

The point?  The point is that maybe the Jets' D really isn't all that great right now.  It was good at the beginning of the season, but it's faded, particularly in light of their anemic offense that hasn't hit the 14-point mark once in the past five games.

I bet some of those one score wins were set up by something too.  Philly is not the end all be all.  They have had some pretty crappy games too.  They just did something we haven't and closed out.  That can change in a heartbeat.  Thats why they play and dont simulate.

No, they're not, who ever said that they were?

But they're a good team that's beaten several better teams than we've beaten and at 9-1 they have the best record in the league.  That shouldn't be taken lightly.

One argument is that they may show up flat due to the Niner game the following week.  I doubt that'll be the case as we'll be an easier win for them and I cannot imagine that Siranni will let them get ahead like that.  And even if they did come in flat, that's pretty much the rule for us, coming in flat this season.  ... until it isn't.  Not sure I'd use the Jets as a measuring stick on that one, and we didn't start all that strong in that game either.  Our first 137 yards on four drives resulted in 3 FGs including two stalled red zone drives.

it was Douglas' INT that sparked us just prior to the half.

We'll see what happens.

Thanks for the back-n-forth!

Philly is playing a bit over their heads at 9-1 imo…they’ve been flat pretty often this season and have showed up when they needed to make a play just about every time.  Their luck will run out at some point…I have no idea if it’s going to be this game but they’re going to come back down to earth a bit

We got sparked by an int against the jets defense but Miami didn’t get sparked by a 99 yard Hail Mary pick six? 😂. That shoulda been a 10-6 game at halftime with tua coming off back to back ugly picks

Beat the eagles requires stopping their passing game.  They have only five losses since the beginning of the 2022 season.  The average passer rating in those five losses is an abysmal  80.4.    In their 23 wins in that time span, their average passer rating was an elite 101.9.

Hurts passer rating tends to go down, the more he is passes. (cause and effect is a bit mushy regarding this statement)  Allens passer rating is more or less independent of volume.  The Bills best chance to win this game is to try to control the tempo of this game in a way that leads to a shootout.

Great analysis.  I hope buffalo can control this game.

Controlling it, and slowing it down, will likely be a mistake.  I don't think McDermott has ever been comfortable manageing a shoot out pace game.

I agree.   I didn’t mean necessarily slowing it down.  I feel the real control needs to be in the trenches.  Very concerned  with having Von eat up snaps to guys who are 100% healthy

First time in a long time that I felt the Bills have no chance to win a regular season game.

Have you watched the Eagles play at all?

Theyve had a pretty easy schedule with good wins over Dallas and KC.   Their wins have been a lot like ours last year, where we were winning, but knew it wasn’t sustainable to keep playing that way.

I see some Bills fans talk about talent disparity… and it feels like many are comparing this Bills team vs last years Eagles SB team.

QB - Bills

RB - Eagles

WR - Eagles

TE - Bills

OL - Draw

DL - Eagles

LB - Bills

CB - Draw

S - Draw

This is how I see the positional breakdowns.

Hurts is very good.. Allen is Top 2 in the league.

Cook is very good, but I’d take Swift.

Diggs, Davis and Shakir have potential to go off any given game, but Brown and Smith are both WR1’s with whatever Julio can give them.

No Goedert evens the skill position playing field.   Bills are without Knox, but Kincaid is a future superstar.

Bills OL is very good.  Same with the Eagles.

Bills DL can be very good, but runs hot and cold.  Eagles DL is consistently good with potentially elite players as depth.

The Eagles Back 7 has been a weakness … and so has the Bills, at times, but the Bills have their top 7 available to them.. and they look like they’re rounding into form.   We just have to hope the depth doesn’t get tested Sunday.

So.. I’m not really seeing this massive talent disparity.   I see two pretty even teams heading into Sunday (with Goedert out) and what will decide this game will be the trenches and QB play..  Bills have to keep it close enough to where the Eagles aren’t massively controlling the LOS - because if they can, it then comes down to Allen showing to the country that the comparisons between him and Hurts this week are a joke.  A repeat of the lead up to Allen vs Tua earlier this year..

Leave no doubt who the better QB is, and the Bills will win.

Devonta Smith popped up on Friday injury report with a knee.  No status but somethin to keep an eye on.  Most of their top skill players are banged up.  Goedert is out.

If Smith is out that’s a big loss for them. Can double AJ without fear.

I don’t think the Bills are a good football team right now.

we can definitely LOSE to any team as well… as evidenced by the Jets and Patriots losses!

Fun fact though - I think the last time we were blown out in a regular season game was 2021 against the Colts.  The Hamlin game might have been trending that way, but we’ll never know.

Having watched the Eagles Chiefs game last night, this seems like a game that if Josh is playing like he is capable, this is a very winnable game

I have family coming from Philly for thanksgiving and I know they are going to talk trash all week. Would love to have him shut up on Sunday night

And if the Eagles play like they are capable, they’ll win.  The Bills have too many issues.  I can’t see this as a W unless luck is on the Bills’ side.
