I've stayed there a few times with my Hawaiian friends. I like the food and the people there. Nothing special but an interesting place because of the Hawaiian crowd. Fremont has a zip line and music and light show that I enjoyed. The roof of the Strat is cool and not too far. stuvian Posted November 12, 2023 Share Posted November 12, 2023 Find out if the hotel you're interested in is under construction. We stayed at Harrahs not knowing it was under the jackhammer. It was a mediocre experience with poor customer service. Stayed at Aria before. Nice rooms but costlier. I unknowingly went on draft week (you know, the one in which we took Elam). I chose The Trop because it is owned by Hilton. I'm an honors member and I have lots of points and never had one bad experience at any Hilton owned place. Well, the hotel was filthy, and the air conditioner was blowing hot air. We complained and a guy came up and changed the filter and left black s%$t all over the carpet. When I got home I complained so much that they gave me 50,000 points. Other than breakfast, the food sucked. Now the good news. I liked the MGM and New York, New York (same owner). There is a Gallagher's Steak House in NY, NY. It was the best Rib Eye I have ever tasted. It is one of the oldest steak houses in NYC and it is superb. I told the manager how much I enjoyed it and he gave us each a complimentary piece of GREAT cheese cake. One night we wanted Mexican. A cab driver in front of the hotel recommended a place and it was very good. It is called Bonito Michoacan, located on 3715 South Decatur Blvd., off the strip but not in a bad neighborhood. The food was very good and the portions were huge. I ordered 1 beer and it was so big that I couldn't finish it. I would go back there if I ever return to Vegas. Hth. Irv Posted November 13, 2023 Share Posted November 13, 2023 (edited) Stayed at the Cosmopolitan. Very nice hotel. Took a tour of Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon via helicopter. Incredible. Helicopter Tour. Saw a concert at the Golden Nugget which is a little run down and very smokey. I would highly recommend Tremont Street though. Marijuana seemed to be everywhere if you go that way. I’ll admit the bold hurt, but I’m keeping my chin up. Our last trip to Vegas was the year before Covid, I think. The wife was working but we went early to stay with some close friends. They wanted us to stay at their place for a few days before our “Strip Adventure” began. WOW! The locals, especially those with far more money than I will ever see, have an TOTALLY different experience. They took us to the best restaurants on and off the Strip, to their (multiple) private clubs, their favorite parks, etc. They have a beautiful life and I’m happy for them. I can’t say that I loved the idea of desert life, but the view across their pool and the golf course of the Strip lit up and night was enough to sway me a bit. Funny side-note: They moved from FL to LA to be close to their grandchild.
