No GM is actually going to trade a second or third round pick for a place kicker 

 

The expected value gained is not as high as the value given up 

 

9 kickers over 90% 19 over 85%

 

It's not like QB where there are 3-4 top guys...  and everybody is searching for one 

 

In a league where there is 15 or 20 guys who can make field goals consistently no GM is trading a second or third round pick for a kicker 

 

Drafting a kicker in the third round might get you fired if it doesn't pan out

I'd take Aubrey over any of those guys, though TJ still has a chance to be good.

 

He's also not wrong how good it would be to add a kicker like Aubrey. I'm sure we can all remember missed FGs that hurt us in the past. We also wouldn't have to go for it on 4th so often if we knew Aubrey was back there to kick from anywhere. 

 

Would I prefer they could find a CB or WR? Definitely. But it's unlikely we'd find anyone near the top of their position like we would Aubrey, plus their contracts would be more expensive.

I definitely wouldn't draft a kicker in the second round.. absolutely wouldn't trade a second or third round pick for a kicker 

 

19 kickers over 85% field goal percentage last year... Sure was Sebastian janikowski draft in the first round 30-plus years ago? Yeah , dumb decision still

 

That Florida State kicker drafted in the second or third round a couple years? Terrible decision 

 

Brandon Aubrey went undrafted.. most kickers go on drafted or go in the 7th or 6th round 

 

And there's 20 of them who are capable of kicking 85% in the NFL.. 

 

No GM is trading a second or third round pick for a kicker 

 

Brandon Aubrey realistically at the highest would be traded for like a fifth.. no GM would ever call up another NFL franchise and offer a second round pick for a kicker 

 

They would just draft their own.. because you can get a world class best kicking prospect in the sixth round

Talks about the Bills throughout, but starting at 16:07, I think he makes a great point -

 

 

 

Not about Allen's prime or whatever, but about the state of KC & Baltimore (and Bengals) + our schedule. 

 

The Chiefs won't stay this weak for long. The Ravens D won't be this bad for long. The Bengals will get Burrow back. 

 

This should be an all-in type year. Not worrying about next season or how to good our rookies might be in 3 years, but that there's a legit chance we could win NOW. 

 

And I see a lot of people on these boards talk as if we can be greedy... like dynasties are normal & that we could be the next one. How about winning just ONE ring first? 

 

If Allen gets is a single SB, he's automatically the best Bills player ever, 1st ballot HOFer, and hero of the franchise. He could retire the next day & still be all those things. 

 

So stop focusing so much on what might happen in 2026 or 2027 with rookie development, draft picks, contracts, etc.

 

If the Bills can acquire pieces to help our terrible run defense (literally 32nd in the league), bolster our secondary, improve our kicking, etc. then they should go for it.

It will be interesting to see what moves if any that Beane makes before the trade deadline. This should be an all-in year. With the schedule the Bills should be heavy favorites to get the #1 seed. To not have to play on WC weekend plus have all playoff games at Highmark is huge for the Bills. They have IMHO the best homefield advantage in football.

If you aren't going to push your chips in now, when are you going to? The AFC East looks terrible outside of the Bills. KC and Baltimore are limping out of the gate. Houston has fallen off a cliff. I appreciate what the Chargers and Colts are doing but can they keep it up? The Bills have what appears to be an extremely favorable schedule. 

 

If not now, when?

whenever something damaging is released about a first round prospect right before the draft, my number one suspect is always the team that drafts them. Trying to spook other interested parties 

 

If it was a team that did it, I think the likeliest suspect is the Miami Dolphins.

1. The Laremy Tunsil situation had just happened in 2016 which allowed Tunsil to fall to the Dolphins. Both Chris Grier and Adam Gase were running the Dolphins in 2016 and 2018. It was never officially confirmed who leaked the Tunsil stuff although most suspect a family member of Tunsil but it is easily possible that the Dolphins orchestrated it to have him fall to them. If anything, they would have learned the potential effects of such a scenario of leaking disparaging material right before the draft.

2. We know the Dolphins were looking to draft a QB in that draft. Alot of people had them linked with Mayfield. Mayfield was linked with many teams outside the top 5 looking for a QB (including the Bills BTW) before he would up going #1. It has also been reported that Gase really liked Allen in that draft.
