I don't know anybody that heard those hot mic comments besides the guy who posted the thread

It coulda happened but I would like other bills fans to corroborate the story

Again I don't think they're happy with what they have... But I think Trey Lance walking in as the number two is also stupid

I think he would have been the number 3 to start he has no experience in the offense and his career collapsed

That guy is not given the number 2 reigns

Well you need to have been outside the US to have heard them. There are actually two people on that thread who claim to have heard them. I didn't myself personally, but if they are as alleged then I think it is just a further corroboration of them really not being happy with what they have.

You can be not happy with your backup quarterback situation... And also not hand Lance the number two job

Both could be true

This team doesn't need a project... It needs a legitimate NFL backup like Tyrod Taylor

Experience, Conservative with the football, and can pick up first downs with his legs.. that's the type of guy the team needs as QB2

I think its time to stop with the "Josh needs a mentor" stuff.

He doesn't need a washed up, marginal QB to hold his hand.

I want a backup that can keep the Bills afloat if Josh goes down.

Even the best players in the world have coaches to help them.. and lean on other players

You know what teams have good backups QBs?  Bad teams

The Chiefs had Chad henne who was nothing more than another Coach ... negative TD-int ratio ... A veteran in the quarterback room never hurts

Any good team that loses their starting quarterback for a stretch is basically going to struggle

I agree and I said before news broke that the Bills were in on Lance that I didn't think he made sense for them. We don't know whether they wanted him as a 2 or a 3. We just know that they were interested at some level. We can speculate on the rest.

And I agree on the type the teams needs. That type isn't Kyle Allen.

Actually, trading for Keenum would cause the Bills to lose their 3rd round pick. Aside from having been pointed out that the rule requiring the player to be on the new team's roster until week 6 has been eliminated (making this whole scenario moot), if the Bills were to trade for Keenum he would then be considered a free agent "lost" and "gained," thereby cancelling him from the equation and costing us our pick.

From the CBA, Appendix V, Article 3, subsection A . . . (CFA = Compensatory Free Agent) . . . " If a Club trades for a player who was a CFA during that League Year, whether the player was another Club’s CFA or the acquiring Club’s own CFA, the player will be considered a CFA gained by the acquiring Club and will be included in the Compensatory netting process described above.

Trading for Keenum would cancel him out of the formula cost us the 3rd round pick.

Thanks. Finally some clarity on the rule. Much appreciated. So essentially it doesn't matter now if the Texans cut him, he qualifies. So if we want Keenum as a backup the best outcome to protect our draft pick is they cut him and we sign him?

It depends how bad Kyle Allen is behind the scenes.  We don't know what we don't see with him.  And it might be bad.

The dude just keeps moving down the depth chart and his team gave up on him

Yeah let's bring him in to be our backup? Lmao I'd rather stick with the trash we have then get newer trash that doesn't know the offense

Lance will be out of the league in 2 years

He's nothing

You people better quit jacking around and come to a decision, pronto!  They're trying to set next week's employee schedule for The Bills Store. 🤨

Case might have to offer a C-Note this year to get someone take the remaining Keenum Jerseys...

I did ponder this the other week think it was with @Beck Water. It definitely used to be the case that the guys that were qualifying FAs for the purposes of the comp pick formula had to actually make the rosters they signed to (without being cut) and make it a certain number of weeks (think it was 6). If they stay on that contract having been traded to another team they still count.

Wasn't sure if that was still the case but it appears so. In which case definitely woth one of our extra 6ths to trade for a better backup and keep our extra 3rd.

Yeah, if this is accurate, its a no brainer as it essentially is like upgrading one of our extra 6ths to a 3rd and also upgrades the backup spot.  Do you know how well it works cap wise on the trade?  I mean he can't be making that much right

It isn't accurate. See @Tuco above. He has clarified the way the rules work now. The old 6 week cut rules has gone.

And yet the Bills kicked the tires on this guy after having seen Kyle for the entirety of the offseason and in camp.  You’re making my point for me.  They’re so worried about Kyle’s play that the explored employing a raw, unknown quantity in Kyle’s place.

You don't know what they offered for tray and what their plans for him was

They easily could have offered a 7th round pick for him to start as the third stringer and see what he has

Because it's asinine to trade for a colossal bust whose arrow is pointing downwards... Hand him your second string quarterback position on an offense he doesn't know a week before preseason

Something tells me that was not the case... And he's 3rd sting in SF and 3rd in Dal

Sure, the bills inquired... Doesn't mean they were handing him the backup job willy nilly
