Sadly, there's just nothing this administration has done or will do that you criticize or object to here.  And you certainly won't criticize this exchange.  If Biden negotiated a deal to send Hitler back to Nazi Germany in exchange for a box of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies you'd be singing praises  to the deal to high Heaven.  Proclaiming what a "great American President".

Bad for the American people generally.  There are thousands and thousands of American citizens traveling the globe, and the stage is set again for another hostile nation to “arrest” an individual and go to work on shaking down the administration;

 

Bad for the world.  If the Russian is as bad a guy as the American government said he is, more deaths are sure to follow.

You asked a question at a third grade level but these issues are more complicated than that, Tibs.  
 

But you’re probably right.  The “Merchant of Death” is probably retired and won’t be able to just walk right into the Leningrad Walmart and buy some tanks.

These types of merchants of death have no borders and no exclusivity to certain nation's arms.

Either way, the thought that the current situation somehow limits international arms dealers is a preposterous premise.

Russian/Soviet and US crap is all over the world, and in the hands of nefarious individuals, and I'm quite certain the international, clandestine arms market is still functioning quite well.

Welcome back, Doc. Brittney Griner is home and that’s excellent news for her and her family. Bout is free to injure, kill and maim again, and that’s very bad for the world. 
 

No, I would not make the trade.  Had the exchange involved returning a Russian national convicted on some low level charge, the son or daughter of a Russian diplomat or member of the Russian water polo team, I’d consider that. 
 

As an American, would you consider accepting an arrangement for a temporary pause in aid to Ukraine in exchange for Paul Whelan?  Let’s assume no financial/military aid to Ukraine for 6 months.  
 

Or, there are stories of the Ukrainians mistreating Russian POWs, up to injuring/killing or releasing videos of them.  Would you support Biden pressuring Zelensky to grant their release by withholding aid/support until…say 100 were returned to Russia? In return, Paul Whelan comes home.

The fundamental fact is this trade was a poor value for value transaction.  If you like this deal how about the Bills send Josh Allen and their 2023 1st round pick to the Bears for Nathan Peterman?  Its representative of the same disparity. 

 

Along with this is the general directive that the US doesn't negotiate with terrorists.  Most posters gushing all over this deal and Biden's adroit handling of the transaction categorically classify Putin as a terrorist and war criminal.  In regards to Ukraine they are adamant that no negotiations can be held with Putin the terrorist and all pre, current, and post war negotiating points considered important to Russia cannot be conceded or agreed to by the Ukrainians and their backers.  Unconditional surrender by Russia and concession of all points of discussion is the only path to an agreement.  But not this week.

 

But by releasing Boot in exchange for Griener our government is certainly breaking their own rule reaching an agreement with a terrorist, along with aiding and abetting a terrorist.  So how can that be rationalized?
