Need any more evidence that these people are nuts and want to control YOU? You must genuflect to anyone around you considered to be less fortunate, less privileged, less White etc etc. You must adjust your life / freedoms to suit them. They’re coming for you folks, no doubt about it. The NYT in recent days has also suggested that you need to drive less and should start eating insects such as grasshoppers instead of meat. Lunatics .

This article shows something that I did not quite realize until today. Many people have been living exactly the same lifestyle as my immunocompromised students are living, but blaming the rest of the world for not "protecting" them. If you are a decent human being you do not expect others to protect you when you can do it yourself.

California lays out plan to live with Covid for the long-term, fight future surges and new variants

California's plan aims to pick up rising viral transmission early and rapidly sequence new variants to determine whether vaccines and therapeutics are still effective.

The state also aims to rapidly deploy additional testing and hospital staff to regions impacted by an outbreak.

The state could reimpose mask mandates depending on the dominant variant and how much disruption it's causing.

California Introduces Post-Pandemic “S.M.A.R.T.E.R.” Plan For Next Phase Of Covid

The State of California unveiled today its long-promised plan for dealing with the Covid crisis going forward. “We learn more about how to live with Covid-19,” reads the new plan and “California must support the ongoing ability of our state to adapt during the coming months and years.”

The state’s top health official repeatedly promised a “smarter” response which, in at least one way it has delivered. The plan is not, however, simpler. (There was a promise to at some point publish a “Smarter Covid Response ABCs” guide as an “easy way for the average Californian to stay up-to-date on guidance.”)

Ghaly introduced the new framework, which he said is captured in the snappy acronym “S.M.A.R.T.E.R.” Each letter comes with a once sentence summary, on which Ghaly elaborated.

S– Stands for shots. “Vaccines are the most powerful weapon against hospitalization and serious illness,” according to the plan.

M– Is for masks. “Properly worn masks with good filtration help slow the spread of Covid-19 or other respiratory viruses.” They remain a key mitigation strategy, according to Ghaly. He promised “on and off ramps” in masking requirements depending on what presents itself. “There may be a time when we all wear masks so we don’t overwhelm our health care system and businesses,” he said. “We will refine our approach.”

A–Awareness. “We will continue to stay aware of how COVID-19 is spreading, evolving variants, communicate clearly how people should protect themselves, and coordinate our state and local government response.” Surveillance and data, plus analysis and tracking are key to identifying problems going forward. Surveillance is going to be key and being able to trigger a set of responses.

R– Readiness. “Covid-19 isn’t going away and we need to be ready with the tools, resources and supplies we will need to quickly respond and keep public health and the health care system well prepared,” asserts the new plan. “We were not where we needed to be 2 years ago,” said Ghaly, “but we have accelerated our readiness faster than almost anyone else.” Going forward, “we will be ready to take on whatever Covid throws our way.”

T–Testing. “Getting the right type of tests – PCR or antigen – to where they are needed most. Testing will help California minimize the spread of Covid-19.” Promised Ghaly, “We will continue to procure and provide testing until the private sector can take over.”

E– Education. “California will continue to work to keep schools open and children safely in classrooms for in-person instruction.” Keeping schools open is a critical pillar of the framework. “Schools can be safe and continue through he worst of the up and downs,” said Ghaly. He said that in all likelihood the state will be able to set a date “in the not too distant future” where masks are strongly recommended in schools but not required.

R–Rx. “Evolving and improving treatments will become increasingly available and critical as a tool to save lives.” This piece of the plan stressed “treatments deployed effectively, efficiently and equitably.”

Not included in the plan is a real estate guide for moving to Texas.

Secession now.

There is no space we need to be sharing with these people.  They are insane.  Clinically insane.

The latest U.S. seven-day average of 118,323 new infections per day dropped 44% from a week ago, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Recognizing that improving case count situation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday it wants to give people a break from mask-wearing. The CDC is reviewing the agency's guidance, focusing on Covid hospitalizations, which are also on the decline, as a key metric for deciding on safety protocols.

On CNBC earlier this month, Gottlieb called for the CDC to change its mask guidance, arguing it was time for schools to consider dumping mandates when considering the high levels of immunity the general U.S. population. He warned that prolonging the wait could result in a missed opportunity at normalcy before students go on summer break.

When it comes to entering public places, however, Gottlieb told CNBC Friday he'll be keeping his mask on to ease others' worries about contracting the virus.

"I'll probably continue to wear it a little bit longer than perhaps I need to based on the overall risk, just because I think it's a matter of etiquette," he said. "I think when I go into a store or pharmacy and other people are there who feel uncomfortable, who feel vulnerable, if they see a lot of people around them wearing masks it makes them more comfortable."

I was going to post it's gonna be a really tough sell. Once the masks come off, that's it.

Yes.  They bring them back again I hope no one puts them back on.  I know I won’t. And I will do my absolute best to never spend a dime in LA County again.  It’s going to be hard seeing we love Long Beach. But the rest of the county can go pound sand.

Seems like a silly reason to wear a mask.  But why does it bother you so much?  If there's no mandate and someone chooses to, so what?   Freedom.  To each his/her own.

Our mandate here is ending in about a month.  I am not 25 and in perfect health.  If I caught it it could be really bad.  I plan to continue to wear a N95 when I go to indoor places for a while to see how it shakes out.  Can we coexist?

Germany’s lockdown loving health minister has rejected the term ‘freedom day’, saying that he expects the Chinese Coronavirus to last 10 YEARS.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach — known as a lockdown extremist before he even got into the role with the new German government — has said that he believes the use of the term ‘freedom day’ is inappropriate, as he does not expect the crisis to be over by the time Germany eases restrictions in March.

Instead, the epidemiologist — who has openly voiced his support for forced vaccination for all over 18s —  has said that he thinks the federal republic will be dealing with Chinese Coronavirus for 10 years.

According to a report by Der Spiegel, Lauterback denounced the use of the term ‘freedom day’ during an interview on Wednesday.

“I don’t use this term at all and I don’t think it’s appropriate either,” the minister is reported as saying, claiming that some older people will never be totally free again post-pandemic.

The kids are fine.  Happy to be in masks.

CDC quietly lowers early childhood speech standards

Since children are no longer able reach these previously attainable milestones, they have been lowered.

One of the authors of this study, Jennifer M. Zubler, said that the changes were made to the guidelines ensure that it reflects milestones that at least 75 percent of children can reach. Since children are no longer able reach these previously attainable milestones, they have been lowered.

The abstract states: "Application of the criteria established by the AAP working group and adding milestones for the 15- and 30-month health supervision visits resulted in a 26.4 percent reduction and 40.9 percent replacement of previous CDC milestones. One third of the retained milestones were transferred to different ages; 67.7 percent of those transferred were moved to older ages."

Before, the milestone guidelines said that at 24 months, or two years of age, a child should be able to say more than 50 words. This milestone has been pushed back to 30 months.

No wonder they keep pushing the masks. They’ll help achieve “ equity” in education.

I’ve posted this before: science is a process not a product. Or did you miss that in seventh grade?

And scientific finds are more compelling as evidence than what whatever Joe Rogan and Captain Infowars is promoting.

One week ago Sunday, which science was correct? The science that allowed 70K+ to attend the Super Bowl? Or the science that allowed zero people to attend Sabres at Canadians?

I’ve never watched/heard Rogan’s podcast but I’ve been told he’s ‘promoting’ the Scientific Method in which scientists study and discuss hypotheses in an open forum. You on the other hand seem to ‘promote’ the Chinese model in which the powerful tell you which hypothesis must be believed…with no questions asked.

Your right to wear a mask has never been questioned, and if you are high risk wear it when you feel necessary. The insinuation that a healthy 25 year old should wear one to make you feel more comfortable though is absurd.
