Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Deal!

Donald Trump Built a National Debt So Big (Even Before the Pandemic) That It’ll Weigh Down the Economy for Years

The “King of Debt” promised to reduce the national debt — then his tax cuts made it surge. Add in the pandemic, and he oversaw the third-biggest deficit increase of any president.

damn, so frustrating trying to have a logical discussion on here.

Again, i dont care what was projected, i care what happened. Deficit spending increased by almost $3.5T before the effects of all the Covid spending bills are added in under Trump. A number that i think is ridiculous and harmful in the long run as a financial conservative, but that is the number.

Joe wants to add another $6T in his "infrastructure" bill...(I am not even including the $1.7t they rammed through under reconciliation)  just about doubling all of Trumps deficit spending.

Your initial argument is " no big deal"...I asked you to explain why you think massive deficits do not matter...I don't care who the President is...why do YOU think deficits don't matter? Use whatever theory you want, any numbers..i am open to listen...I would just like to hear you explain your position with out using the word Trump or Republican.

You’re talking about deficit spending and we’re talking about debt spending.

I wasn’t making any argument. I simply stated what Trump’s spending was during his term. I don’t care about spending. You appear to be the one to care about spending.

Then you tried to pretend that Covid spending somehow didn’t count when Trump was president and the GOP controlled the Senate, which is false.

so in other words...you cant explain what debt spending is?

And yes, looking at deficit spending increases and failing to consdie that almost $4T was added in Covid relief bills is not intellectually honest..

And why do you not care what spending is? Should we take it a step farther and just say that if  spending and deficits do not matter, why then should revenues matter? Should we  not all just stop paying taxes?

And please, just one response that defends your position on why debt does not matter without using the word Trump

You said that adding Covid spending to Trump’s term isn’t intellectually honest.

Why?

We have almost 8 trillion added to the debt and Trump had the third-biggest primary deficit growth, 5.2% of GDP, behind only George W. Bush (11.7%.)

Are you disputing those numbers?

You’re talking about deficit spending and we’re talking about debt spending.

Okay, let me see if i can understand your argument.

1) You start by saying you are not worried about debt created by the infrastructure bill

2) you then post an article that says the debt will hold back the economy for years ...supporting the opposite of your premise..you do understand  that no?

3) you then state that i am talking about deficit spending, and you are talking about debt spending. Again, please explain the difference to me...without using the word Trump or Obama or Bush...or political party etc...just explain the difference to me.

And, in the process defend your position why debt levels do not matter.

As a fiscal conservative, i believe strongly that the massive expansion of debt the last 12 years is a massive issue, i don't care who the president or house/senate was at the time. I didn't like it under Bush, Obama, and Trump. I don't like it under Biden

And, if you cannot see the difference between a near unanimous passage of  a massive $4T relief bill passed during a once in a century pandemic and a   $6T "infrastructure" bill shoved through with a budget reconciliation measure and without a single republican vote ...then there is really no need to continue this discussion.

i will not post in this thread again unless you can defend your position  on national debt and  why it does not matter and  define the difference between debt spending and deficit spending .... as i refuse to get into a battle of the wits with an unarmed man.

You’re assuming for some weird reason that I am attacking Trump for his Covid spending when I am not doing that. I supported the spending bills.

“And, if you cannot see the difference between a near unanimous passage of  a massive $4T relief bill passed during a once in a century pandemic and a   $6T "infrastructure" bill shoved through with a budget reconciliation measure and without a single republican vote ...then there is really no need to continue this discussion.”

Tell us what the difference is. Was the money spent or not? Debt spending is now only recorded depending on who supported it and the particular crisis involved? Every president faces a crisis that they didn’t ask for and that’s usually when the spending occurs. Why are you trying to pretend that we’re supposed to put Covid spending in it’s own separate column?

CLEAN-UP ON WH AISLE FIVE

The editors of the Wall Street Journal seem to me to bring the necessary cynicism to explicating the infrastructure “compromise” that is to preface enactment of the related Dem wish list/prospective spending blowout:

Mr. Biden’s statement Saturday changes nothing except the [White House counselor Steven] Ricchetti atmospherics. Mr. Biden spoke the real truth on Thursday. He knows, because Mr. Ricchetti tells him, that Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plan to jam through as much of the Families Plan as they can on a partisan vote.

They’re telling the political left to go along with the infrastructure bill because it will please Mr. Manchin and reduce the price tag for the Families Plan by including a lot of climate-related spending. The GOP will have left its fingerprints on much of the Democratic spending blowout and its consequences, and it will be helpless to stop the Families Plan. Mr. Manchin is already falling in line.

All of this is hiding in plain sight. Mr. Biden on Thursday merely put his not-so-fine point on it. Republicans who think that passing an infrastructure bill will prevent a partisan Families Plan are fooling themselves—and voters. Don’t listen to what Mr. Ricchetti says. Listen to what Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Schumer say they’ll do.

The Journal cites the White House statement issued on Saturday to soothe discomfited GOP participants in the alleged “compromise” infrastructure deal (“[m]y comments…created the impression that I was issuing a veto threat on the very plan I had just agreed to, which was certainly not my intent” — “created the impression” because that’s what he said).

Biden nearly scotched the infrastructure deal just a few hours after all parties agreed to it by tying it to the budget reconciliation bill.  Then the next day he had to walk that back.  That was a very Trump-like maneuver. It pointlessly complicated matters, and it accomplished nothing.

There must be something in the White House water that makes its occupants stupid.

So, what would happen if Biden spent 10 trillion more dollars and the next president did the same?

The answer is nothing. Nothing would happen. How do I know that? Because we’ve been doing it for 20 years and nothing happened.

I applaud that sir. Having children should be a financial choice, not some obligation.

McConnell: Biden must convince Pelosi and Schumer to delink the two infrastructure bills

https://hotair.com/allahpundit/2021/06/28/mcconnell-biden-must-convince-pelosi-and-schumer-to-delink-the-two-infrastructure-bills-n399329

This statement has multiple targets and I don’t think any of them are Pelosi and Schumer. Those two have to answer to the progressive base and will act accordingly.

McConnell knows it, so there’s no sense in trying to pressure them.

But there is sense in trying to pressure Biden. And Joe Manchin. And the centrist Republicans who have been negotiating with the two of them.

AP Fact Check: Biden distorts bipartisan infrastructure deal

Associated Press, by Hope Yen , Christopher Rugaber & David Koenig

WASHINGTON -- President Joe Biden overstated the expected employment gains Tuesday in making his pitch for a bipartisan infrastructure proposal that he said would create “millions” of new jobs. That might or might not have resulted from his initial plan, but there's a smaller one on the table now.

Democrats unveil imaginary $3.5T spending package

e2b95515-20b8-4dd1-a3df-9bed430e5114-730

Considering the amount of excitement last night’s announcement appeared to generate in Democratic circles, it sounded as if the “other half” of the “infrastructure” bill was being revealed. Coming in with a price tag of $3.5 trillion, the new proposal is to contain the lengthy list of Democratic wishlist items that didn’t make the cut in the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was previously agreed on. And to hear Chuck Schumer describe it, it would be a “profound change” in how the government makes life better for Americans. Of course, nothing on the list actually has anything to do with infrastructure, so they might as well just call it a way to spend massive amounts of additional money that we don’t have. You’re going to have trouble examining the details of the bill, however, for reasons that we’ll get to in a moment. (NBC News)

Senate Democratic leaders announced an agreement Tuesday evening to advance a $3.5 trillion spending plan to finance a major expansion of the economic safety net.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the $3.5 trillion will be in addition to the $579 billion in new spending under the bipartisan infrastructure agreement.

He said the deal will include a “robust expansion of Medicare” that includes new benefits like dental, vision and hearing, along with major funding for clean energy. “If we pass this, this is the most profound change to help American families in generations,” he said.

Mark Warner declared that this bill “will be fully paid for.” That’s certainly an interesting claim. Schumer and Bernie Sanders are promising that there will be no new taxes on anyone making less than $400K per year and none on small businesses, either. So the entire $3.5 trillion bill will be footed by corporations and “the wealthy” who will be paying “their fair share.” (How many times have we heard that one before?)

The Democrats hope to get this bill passed before the current legislative session ends on July 31. With that in mind, I figured it would be a good idea to go search through the bill and report on some of the specifics.

Unfortunately, that proved to be impossible. Why? Because, as the linked article points out, “the legislation has yet to be written.”

Are you kidding me? They’re talking about a massive spending package that will flush vast sums of money to their friends who invest in green energy companies, along with a gargantuan expansion of Medicare and God-only-knows what else. And they haven’t even started writing the bill yet. But they’re going to slam it together and get it passed via reconciliation in a little more than two weeks? It would have to be passed that way because there’s no way this beast will attract any Republican votes. And until we see all of the details, they can’t even be sure that they’ll get all of the Democrats to go along with it.

They won’t need to write the bill from scratch, obviously. Nearly everything being suggested has come up before and been drafted in other spending bills that failed to pass. They can take the language from some of their greatest hits collections and cobble them together into one giant package, no doubt slipping in a few poison pills to go along with the big-ticket items. And why not? Nobody is going to have time to read the whole thing anyway.

In other words, the Democrats will need to once again abuse the reconciliation process without the Senate Parliamentarian shooting them down and keep all of their members together. And if that somehow happens, we’ll end up setting another massive pile of imaginary money on fire via a piece of legislation that nobody will have read and without an ounce of bipartisan support. This is no way to run an airline, folks.

First vote on bipartisan infrastructure bill fails as expected

e7490ff2-d80b-4a9f-a9af-8a36f4c4ef94-860

The so-called bipartisan infrastructure bill that’s dominated congressional news coverage for the past month had its first moment in the sun last night. It almost immediately failed. This seems to have been a bit of theater on the part of Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin because they obviously must have already whipped the vote and knew it wasn’t going to come anywhere near sixty. In the end, it didn’t even make it to fifty because Schumer had to switch his vote at the last moment, allowing him to bring it up for another vote as soon as Monday. So will it pass next week? Possibly.

{snip}

Most of the coverage of this vote that I’ve seen this morning has attempted to focus on the bright side, suggesting that approval is just around the corner and Joe Biden will finally be able to chalk up another legislative victory. But you have to dig a bit further into the details to discover why the eleven Republicans who participated in this project weren’t ready to go along with the vote to proceed quite yet. Way down near the bottom of the linked article there is a reference to a letter that the eleven GOP members sent to Schumer. It says that they will likely be ready to proceed to a vote on Monday “if certain details about the package are ready.”

Minority Leader Mitch McConnel was a bit more blunt about it. “Around here, we typically write the bills before we vote on them,” he said.

So the reality is that the bipartisan group hasn’t even finished writing the bill yet. There is still the opportunity to tack on any number of new items that could sink it entirely, and yet Chuck Schumer wanted to push everyone to sign off on starting the debate yesterday.

Those of you old enough to remember the congressional debates over Obamacare likely recall when Nancy Pelosi said, “we need to pass the bill to find out what’s in the bill.” Chuck Schumer is never one to be outdone. The new message is, we need to vote on the bill before we bother writing the bill.

Some of you might be thinking there’s no harm in this. After all, they weren’t voting on the final passage, but just an agreement to move forward and begin debate. Fair enough. But the GOP has been burned too many times by agreeing to something only to have the Democrats insert poison pills at the last moment. And if they bring the bill to the floor for debate and then lose most of the eleven Republicans due to some last-minute shenanigans, what was the point of investing all of this time, to begin with?

https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2021/07/22/first-vote-on-bipartisan-infrastructure-bill-fails-as-expected-n403852

The bottom line is that this bill may well move to the floor on Monday and possibly make it to Joe Biden’s desk. Then Chuck Schumer will be stuck trying to figure out a way to jam through the massively bloated three-to-five trillion-dollar Democratic wishlist that’s waiting in the wings. Since that would have to be done via reconciliation, the Senate Parliamentarian will likely be very busy in the coming month. Stay tuned.

Time for Nancy to work her magic. Republicans should pay attention. They’ve never had a House leader that can maneuver like the master.

Manchin is already onboard with the reconciliation package. He’ll do his usual whining along the way but we have his vote in the end.

Everyone wins in the end. GOP senators look good after being blamed for the last administration that wasn’t capable of introducing any meaningful legislation in 4 years. Progressives get their grab bag of goodies and expansion of programs. There will be something similar to Manchin’s recent voter bill proposal added to wreck the recent red state suppression laws.

Biden gets to do the victory lap and enjoy a nice bounce. His legislative agenda will be nearly completed and Dems can pivot to HC heading into the midterm elections.

Trump and his cult snowflakes cry and continue hating police and America while chasing weird social issues that no one cares about.

Mitch has a Lara Trump problem. There’s no way he can take back the senate if they give away the NC seat. He’s gotta get her out of there and find someone electable to run there or he’s doomed.

And I win big because all this government spending will accelerate an already high and increasing inflation rate as I've structured my investment portfolio over the past 15 months to take advantage of those specific circumstances.  And while all the clueless who cheer on expensive debt funded government spending programs, that will absolutely 100% guaranteed need to be monetized by the Federal Reserve, will suffer because the value of the currency and the falling purchasing power of their income will dramatically downgrade their lifestyles I will be in great shape.  So thank you for supporting such foolishness.  The good news is there is still time for others to do the same but that window is closing.
