Biden and the crises er challenge on the border

I guess that Mayor lightfoot agrees with me.

and the point that I have been making in this thread.

“This is a national problem, it needs a national solution, cities and states cannot be left to fend for ourselves,” she declared.

Bingo! That’s the point here, and she’s finally spelling it out for everyone to hear–that Biden has to take action and that they have to have a plan that deals with this problem. That’s what the border cities have been demanding for two years, until it finally just became too much and they resorted to busing people to sanctuary cities.

Now, with just a few illegal aliens, the Democrats like Lightfoot are throwing a fit. It just shows what a sham the whole “we’re sanctuary cities” is. When push comes to shove, they show what a failure those policies are.

But the Biden team has just been lying their heads off, claiming the border is secure and giving incompetent word salads. They’ve bought all this by their failed approach to the border. Now, Biden is going to have to fish or cut bait with his own Democrats screaming — take this seriously or get eaten alive by his own people, right before the midterms.

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2022/09/15/lori-lightfoot-drops-biden-with-the-priceless-words-weve-been-waiting-to-hear-about-illegal-aliens-n627959

This is an example of the fascinating hypocrisy of democrat leadership and many of the far left in general.  She's been dealing with this particular crisis for about 10 minutes when considering the myriad of challenges at the border over the decades.  Yet, here she is, sounding exasperated and near tears.  Suddenly, as if by magic, 'something' needs to be done. More accurately, 'someone' needs to help her.  Apparently, it never occurred to her to have a plan in place to deal with just such a crisis.

Maybe she should have discussed it with Joe Biden when she sidestepped COVID travel bans to attend the inauguration?

Yes, they should be demanding we move more immigrants into the heart of the country. Let that demographic change go baby!

No, send them where they're wanted.

BTW, Martha's Vineyards locals are asking Barry and 'Chelle to open their home to the illegals.

So you obviously want a "Keep out" sign on America. I don't like that, but thanks for sharing.

Would you support a foreign policy that sought to promote more democracy and economic growth in the Americas so people don't have to flee their own countries? Personally I think that's the way to go.

And immigrants are welcome in the America I want to live in. aging populations are a threat to prosperity, government funding and national security, IMO

Quite the contrary, I am for a liberal LEGAL immigration policy that welcomes immigrants to America.

Last year 650 people died trying to come to America illegally.  There are countless others who were robbed, raped and beaten on their journey.  The current immigration policy is inhumane.  It is also dangerous to immigrants, law enforcement and Americans living in border communities.

A comprehensive LEGAL immigration policy would allow immigrants to be properly processed and vetted before they come into America.  This process would allow immigrants to immediately receive pertinent social services and for them to be placed in geographic areas that have the means to accept them.  The federal government would have the ability to allow all immigrants in the world a chance to come to the US, not just those in the Americas.

The America I want to live in embraces it's history of immigration and accepts them legally with open arms.  Not a nation that shrugs when they die trying to get here.

No way will comprehensive immigration policy reform get through Congress. Heck the GOP wanted to throw the DOCA people out of the country, how do you reach an agreement with people like that?

Where do you get your news? I live in a state that’s literally inundated with illegal immigrants and there was no major movement to throw the DACA people out of the country. The movement was to make them earn their citizenship.

One of the interesting things of this Martha Vineyards thing that I don’t think has been talked about yet….. if the illegal immigrant problem is so bad in Florida, why couldn’t DeSantis find his own illegal immigrants in FL and needed to use TX ones for his politics stunt?

Surely if the problem is so bad in FL he could have found 50 people pretty easily in his own state.

Let this sink in for a second. There are only four US States that share a border with Mexico. In just this past year there’ve been more illegal immigrants who’ve broken our laws and ignored our sovereignty than the entire population of one of them…New Mexico, with a population of just barely 2 million people! No matter how you slice it, this is wrong on so many levels. Shame on every one in charge and on those who are purposefully choosing to look the other way.

You are aware that Florida doesn’t share a border with Mexico, right? Where’s the Governor going to get these people? I believe it’s illegal to round them up at the local Home Depot! Sheeesh

- Florida has a large amount of Cuban illegal immigrants

- Florida paid for these flights. Why are they paying costs for TX? Shouldn’t FL taxpayers be upset their money is going to TX?

- If this isn’t a problem in FL, why does there FL governor care? Wouldn’t his time be better spent fixing the issues of his constituents?

To own the libs.

These MAGA Christians are fake.

If Xi Q DeSantis wanted to make a statements - he could have flown these human beings from Texas to Florida and took care of them like the good folks are doing on the Vineyard.

You haven’t been paying attention. Florida has been a dumping ground for the Biden’s illegal immigrant redistribution program. I’m pretty sure Florida cannot swoop up people on their streets once the feds have dumped them there. If it’s like california it’s illegal to ask someone’s immigration status. So Florida is making a point that BEFORE they incur the ongoing costs of maintaining these people maybe it’s time some of them were dispersed so that other communities could pay their “fair share”. It’s not a cost…it’s an investment! (That’s what you guys always say, right?)

Republicans campaigning for office are running ads that hammer President Joe Biden’s management of the U.S.-Mexico border. They claim that the administration is using planes to fly "illegal immigrants" around the country.

Republican Tyler Kistner, making his second consecutive campaign for a U.S. House seat in Minnesota, made his claim about skullduggery in the dark.

Biden "has been secretly flying illegal immigrants into communities across the country in the middle of the night," his ad on Facebook and Instagram claimed.

Other Republicans have run social media ads making similar claims. They include Lisa Scheller, who is running for a U.S. House seat in Pennsylvania; Jake Corman, who is running for Pennsylvania governor; U.S. Rep. Randy Weber of Texas, U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, and U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson of Iowa.

Experts said the vast majority of people trying to cross the southern border into the United States are summarily turned back. Exceptions are made for unaccompanied minors, some of whom are transported by planes to be with relatives or approved sponsors — a practice also done during the Trump administration.

How the process works

Kistner’s campaign did not reply to our requests for information to support his claim.

Two law professors and directors of immigrants’ rights clinics, Fatma Marouf at Texas A&M University School of Law and Nicole Hallett at the University of Chicago Law School, walked us through the process.

Because of a public health law known as Title 42, invoked at the start of the pandemic by the Trump administration and continued under Biden, the vast majority of migrants are turned back and not given the opportunity to make their case for why they should be allowed to stay.

Those encountered at the border who have been allowed to remain are, by and large, unaccompanied minors. They typically are taken first to facilities near the border and then transferred to the temporary custody of the U.S. Health and Human Services department, which eventually places the children with family or sponsors in the U.S. If family members or approved sponsors are not able to arrange transportation, the federal government pays for transportation, including flights.

The charter flights are not publicized and sometimes are done in the middle of the night to protect the confidentiality of those being transported and to guard against anyone who would interfere with the flights.

Republicans, including Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, have complained that they were not notified about the flights and U.S. House members from New York asked the Biden administration to stop such flights to their state.

The Washington Post’s Fact Checker reported that sometimes the federal government tries to save money by arranging for flights that land late in the evening.

Most unaccompanied minors turn themselves in to border authorities and by doing so are "actually following the rules of seeking asylum," said Marouf.

ICE Air Operations is the air transportation arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is responsible for the detention and deportation of immigrants.

The Biden administration, like the Obama and Trump administrations, uses flights to move adult detainees from one detention facility to another in order to avoid overcrowding. If some of those flights occur at night, it’s not necessarily indicative of something nefarious or covert going on, as the ad suggests.

News reports, including some in Florida and Pennsylvania, have made clear that the process is routine and occurred under the Trump administration, as well.

Mexican nationals ordered for deportation from the United States travel on domestic flights from various U.S. cities to southern cities such as San Diego, California and Brownsville, Texas, and are then bused to the U.S.-Mexico border for removal at a land port of entry, ICE said in August 2020.

Neither ICE nor the Health and Human Services Department responded to requests for comment for this fact-check.

The White House cited one of several statements it has made in response to such claims. A reporter on Oct. 19 asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki: "Why is the administration flying thousands of migrants from the border to Florida and New York in the middle of the night?"

Psaki said: "It is our legal responsibility to safely care for unaccompanied children until they swiftly — can be swiftly unified with a parent or a vetted sponsor. And that’s something we take seriously; we have a moral obligation to come to do that and deliver on that.

"As a part of the unification process, our Office of Refugee Resettlement facilitates travel for children in its custody to their families or sponsors across the country. So, in recent weeks, unaccompanied children passed through the Westchester (N.Y.) airport, which I think is what you’re referring to, en route to their final destination to be unified with their parents or a vetted sponsor.

"It’s no surprise that kids can be seen traveling through states, not just New York.  It’s something that we’re also working to unite children with their family members or vetted sponsors in other parts of the country as well."

How the race plays into House control

Kistner, an ex-Marine, is running against Democratic Rep. Angie Craig, who was first elected in 2018 to the 2nd District seat, which represents part of southeast Minnesota.

Craig defeated Kistner in 2020 by 48% to 46%. Campaign watchers rate their rematch as "Democratic toss up", "tilt Democratic" and toss up.

Democrats have an 11-seat advantage in the House.

Our ruling

Kistner said Biden "has been secretly flying illegal immigrants into communities across the country in the middle of the night."

The ad implies that it is a new phenomenon for the federal government to transport immigrants around the country. That’s not true.

The federal government flies adult detainees in its custody from one facility to another, or from one U.S. city to another during deportation proceedings. The U.S. government in some cases also flies unaccompanied children who are being released from its custody to a family member or sponsor.

Some of these flights may happen at night, but they are not covert operations. The same types of routine flights were done by the Trump administration.

The ad contains only an element of truth. We rate it Mostly False.

DeSantis disagrees with you:

“Texas is taking people,” DeSantis said after a morning Florida Cabinet meeting. “Biden has not sent anyone to us since we got that. He does send children all across the country in the middle of the night and dumps them all over the United States, which I think is very reckless.”

“We have not had buses coming in, we have had people trickle in,” DeSantis said. “I think because of what Texas has done, that has actually taken a lot of pressure off us.”

They literally took people off the street!!! I wonder if your opinion on this would be different if you were educated on the subject. You’ve said several things that are just factually wrong. Maybe it’s time you step back, read up and come with an opinion once you’ve educated yourself instead of just talking out your butt.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/republican-governor-florida-flies-migrants-171423700.html

One Venezuelan migrant who arrived at Martha's Vineyard identified himself as Luis, 27, and said he and nine relatives were promised a flight to Massachusetts, along with shelter, support for 90 days, help with work permits and English lessons. He said they were surprised when their flight landed on an island.

He said the promises came from a woman who gave her name as "Perla" who approached his family on the street outside a San Antonio shelter after they crossed from Mexico and U.S. border authorities released them with an immigration court date.

Sure…sounds like Florida sent a ‘trickle’ just like you quoted that they did and they were not swooped up in dragnet against their will, if you actually read your story. They were not harmed or damaged. So…..Welcome to Martha’s Vineyard!

They weren’t harmed? They left where they were for promises the DeSantis admin had no intention of fulfilling.

If a company says hey I’m going to give you a job, help you get something quicker and do other things for you if you move from CA to OK, then you get there and they’re like yea I lied to you just to get you to OK, you’re not welcome back in CA… you wouldn’t be harmed?

Keep lighting your hair on fire. You honestly thought the flood of illegal immigration was going to go on day after day after day and NOBODY was going to do anything? You really have to be kidding me!

And, if you illegally enter another country, I’m not sure you’re in any position to pick where you want to live. It’s not like they were sent to Death Valley! But, to be constructive, how about you take a few illegals in at your house? Get in the boat and row.

Let me try this.  What if I owned a chicken processing plant in the Midwest and wanted to expand but didn’t have the local labor to do so. So I rented a couple of buses, drive them to the border and and coax a few dozen illegals with a meal, some clean clothes and bused them to my plant.  There was no place for them to live once they got there.  What are the ramifications to me if I were to do this?

Lol man, you’re hilarious. I feel bad that your uneducated opinion has you all riled up.

Again,

- why do Florida taxpayers need to pay for TX illegal immigrants to be sent to Martha’s Vineyard

  - your response was because Biden is shipping people to FL. You were proven wrong by DeSantis himself. So try again…..

- why should taxpayers pay for a political stunt to “own” the libs?
