They quickly shifted their focus to synthetic drugs as an alternative source of income. To produce these synthetic drugs, cartels started obtaining precursor chemicals from China and manufacturing methamphetamine and fentanyl. This enabled them to continue their illegal activities while avoiding detection by law enforcement. One well-known cartel, the Zetas, transformed their drug trafficking operations and expanded into extortion, kidnapping, alien smuggling, gasoline theft, and loan sharing. With this new strategy in place, they entered a highly profitable billion-dollar business - smuggling migrants. The Cartel De Jalisco emerged in 2010 after the death of Sinaloa Cartel leader Ignacio Coronel and adopted many violent tactics from them. The ongoing drug battles now extend from Chiapas to Laredo and are no longer solely driven by narcotics, but alien smuggling. The cartels have recognized the immense financial potential in human trafficking and have effectively capitalized on it. Exploiting vulnerable individuals seeking better lives or escaping dire circumstances has allowed them to establish a lucrative trade in smuggling migrants across borders. one has to wonder if they are also giving the big guy ten percent or something.
