This Cruz triggering is hilarious..  I’m no fan of his but wow.

Also while he is directly quoted as saying his daughters had a planned get away with friends and he just traveled with them and then returned working the whole time, the stories don’t mention that... see AP headline and they only quoted the ‘took them down there’ out of context. Man AP really disappoints me... I really once believed they were reputable news source and not a the enquirer

I'm no fan of Ted Cruz but I buy his story!

So Cruz feels safe with his wife and kids being in Cancun without him, but felt he needed to chaperone them on the flight to get there with a huge luggage bag of his own?

And he bought the return ticket home this morning.

The New Deal started a number of federal initiatives. The Tennesee Valley Authority is a great example.

The TVA provides power to about 10 million people. They generate over 10 billion I revenue and over 1 billion in net profits per year. They have paid back all of the Federal money invested in it. They pay the federal government equity payments, and reinvest the remaining profits into their infrastructure upkeep and in regional economic development, job creation, business loans ect.

They are more reliable than Pepco or ComEd, have lower rates, and turn a profit for both the government and region.

You and I both pay companies owned by Excelon, who is in business to generate profits for their investors. When it comes to public utilities that benefit all citizens, I would much rather pay less per month to a government owned corporation and have the revenue inturn reinvested in my local region while reducing my federal tax burden.

Pepco is awesome reliable and proactive for me.

But I also prefer fedex ups and Amazon over the us post office .  So I’m probably not the right one to try and convince that bloated inefficient government monopolies are good for anything.

oh and don’t forget corruption

What spin do you see in the article you posted? I'll go line by line until I get tired....

DALLAS (AP) — With Texas paralyzed by a winter storm, Sen. Ted Cruz took his family on vacation to Cancun, Mexico, drawing criticism from leaders in both parties and potentially damaging his political ambitions. Fact

In a statement on Thursday, Cruz said he was returning to Texas. He said he accompanied his family to Mexico a day earlier after his daughters asked to go on a trip with friends, given that school was canceled for the week. Fact

“Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon,” Cruz said. Fact

“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,” he continued. “We want our power back, our water on, and our homes warm.” Fact

Cruz addressed his travels only hours after The Associated Press and other media outlets reported that he had traveled to Cancun on Wednesday, with hundreds of thousands of Texans still grappling with the fallout of a winter storm that crippled the state’s power grid and killed more than three dozen people, some while trying to keep warm. Fact

The statement did little to quell a fierce political backlash that comes as Cruz eyes a second presidential run in 2024. He was already one of the most villainized Republicans in Congress, having created adversaries across the political spectrum in a political career defined by far-right policies and fights with the political establishment. Fact

More recently, he emerged as a leader in former President Donald Trump’s push to overturn the results of the November election. Billboards calling for his resignation stood along Texas highways earlier in the month. Fact

Even the state Republican Party chair declined to come to Cruz’s defense on Thursday. Fact

“That’s something that he has to answer to his constituents about,” Texas GOP Chair Allen West said when asked whether Cruz’s travel was appropriate while Texans are without power and water. Fact

“I’m here trying to take care of my family and look after my friends and others that are still without power,” West said. “That’s my focus.” Fact

Hundreds of thousands of people in Texas woke up Thursday to a fourth day without power, and a water crisis was unfolding after winter storms wreaked havoc on the state’s power grid and utilities. Fact

Maybe you can quote the part that is all spin and national inquirer like?

I'm not trying to convince anyone of government bureaucracy. TVA isn't a government agency. It is a corporation  that is owned by the federal government. So there's nothing wrong with them creating employee incentives. That's how companies operate. That's also why the TVA can pay their CEO a competitive salary. He isn't a government official.

Leave it to the Trump admin to claim that the TVA's CEO salary was being paid by tax payer dollars. The TVA pays the federal government millions a year in equity, and pays employees out of the revenue they generate.

omitted: issued a statement explaining that he was not on a vacation himself, but was accompanying his daughters, ages 12 and 10, on a flight to theirs.

headline:

cruz confirms vacation

my personal opinion is he’s a fool for doing it, he’s a super sleazy politician and I’m sure he’s lying about the chaperone bit. But he said that he escorted them there and left. They omitted that narrative completely and intentionally.

Yeah I almost didn’t post that when I saw the last bit.

either way I have no interest in government owned businesses, if I want that I can move to China. I’m for deregulation, competition and environmental accountability when it comes to power.

Or you could move to Canada, or England, or France, or NYS...

The ironic part is that you're paying a mutli-national corporation that is probably owned in part by Chinese shell companies, so a portion of the profits are taken in by the Chinese government.

As a small business owner myself, there are massive parts of the economy I do not think the government has any business in. Where I do think government owned companies have a role is in areas of public interest and critical infrastructure.

I think it's much wiser that our power plants and natural resources are owned by our state and local governments than companies based out of London or Paris and owned by shell companies all over the globe.

You’re  entitled to your opinion the only other benchmark I know is Niagara Mohawk and growing up in buffalo our power was always out, brownouts on hot days, transformers were always blowing, trucks took days to respond... and then my grandfather in Albany currently goes days without power multiple times per year every time a thunderstorm goes through. I’m not sure what their ownership is, but it’s a total disaster.

Pepco has been awesome they even come to your home free of charge and prescribe efficiency improvement. They have a proactive ongoing tree limb removal effort I’m positive no government agency would ever effectively even come close to competing with them. They really know how to run a service, something the government is clueless about. I just got a holiday card last week that was mailed in December, but Amazon can get me anything on the planet in two days.

There at least need to be a mix of public and private as the private keeps them competing. Canada is a mix of public and private. Frances state owned Areva recently went bankrupt.

People simply don’t  understand the tyranny of monopolistic corrupt government agencies, mostly because of general naivety and the media long since abandoned any sort of real investigative journalism.

He’s just digging the hole deeper. What a fool.  “When you’re home for two days without power and you kids say, let’s go to Cancun” 🤦‍♂️

It's the old "if you want a friend in politics, get a dog." Ted's wife's texts about planning a little getaway until power is restored leaked by a recipient of those texts!

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/18/us/politics/ted-cruz-storm-cancun.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage

Text messages sent from Ms. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was “FREEZING,” as Ms. Cruz put it — and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, where they had stayed “many times,” noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security. The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts.

Look, I'm not gonna blame the Cruzes for doing this. I would've done exactly the same thing (as long as I was sure my pipes wouldn't burst). But every politician ought to know the rule about not making bad press last beyond the current news cycle. "I planned to get my family away to a safe and comfortable place for a few days until we're sure power is restored, then come right back to try to work on why this happened and how it can be prevented." That's all you need to say.

And just in case you forgot: that's Ted's wife with him, the one insulted by Trump as being unattractive. And that's Ted himself, the one whose father was accused of having something to do with Oswald and JFK's assassination. And that's also Ted, the 100% Trump supporter. Grow a pair, Teddy. Stand up for your family.

A disaster in your state is usually a gift to a politician.  You pretend to help those in need, do photo ops, and get great press.  Cruz decides to take his family to Cancun and then blames his daughters when this genius suddenly realizes how bad the optics are.  You'd expect better judgement from a Princeton and Harvard graduate.  I'll go out on a limb and say this hurts his 2024 presidential nominee chances and possible SCOTUS ambitions.

And I’ll take the opposite tact. I think this helps Cruz and he becomes the GOP nominee. The GOP faithful will rally around this guy and vote for him to “own the libs.”

Ive talked to a few Republicans the last few days and they still believe the lie that the windmills caused the power outage. You can’t tell them any different.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but your prediction doesn’t necessarily make you Nostradomous.

The former pres has allegations of wrongdoing, he beat a candidate in 2016 who carried more baggage than Southwest Airlines, the current president has spent his career making inflammatory racial comments and fondling women...and just about every major political leader has allegations of financial impropriety/gaming the system for their own benefit/warehousing the Uber-sick in close proximity to the Uber-vulnerable (disclaimer—I acknowledge that you have personally vouched for Cuomo with respect to wrongdoing as you feel governors are the equivalent of low level clerks at DMV when it comes the health and welfare decisions for the people in their state).

If an overnight jaunt to Mexico brings down a politician most all of them should resign in disgrace.

So you think Nostradomous had real powers to see the future? Hmmmm...

And Ted Cruz has tried to overthrow the Republic, let’s not forget that. His speech as the rebellion was taking place was just the worst thing I ever heard. Said Cruz: “A poll shows that 39% of Americans do not trust the results of the election. That’s almost half the people. And if half of America has no trust in the election we need to stop this process...” or something close to that.

He is a a disgusting human being. That gives him a pretty good shot at winning the GOP nomination

I'll bet that damn socialist Biden does it, too.
