The January 6th Commission To Investigate The Insurrection

Speaker Pelosi is moving to create commission along the lines of another terror attack, the 9-11 commission. The Benghazi Commission members are already complaining that we have had too many commissions. They then bowed down and 💋 Trump’s feet

There are also law suits being filed against Trump and the Proud Boys which will make them open to depositions.

Great move.  Let’s find each and every one of these traitorous scumbags.

The way to address traitorous scumbags is not through the civil justice system, it’s through the criminal courts.  Let the police investigate, the prosecutors go to the grand jury, prosecute, allow the defense to respond and get it to a jury.

i could of sworn the fbi was arresting people all over the country, are they not asking questions? people are getting cancelled simply for being in the area having nothing to do with breaking the law or storming the capital while others are being placed on no fly lists as investigations continue.

the person everyone feels is responsible just went through a impeachment trial where any and all evidence could have been presented and he is also possibly facing criminal charges from states. banks have closed his accounts, contracts have been negated, blacklists have been made with anyone he was involved with.

yeah um a new commission is needed to uncloak this organization shrowded in mystery. 🙄

maybe if they left parler up...they could just READ about it!? yes? no?maybe? that's a no because most the groups formed on FACEBOOK! and facebook does not track a log information so its gone forever. lol

hey LA times there a little place close to you were groups are still openly organizing and causing havoc. latest one was blocking police from going to emergency calls, emergency calls are kind of important to regular people. they dont get 24 hour national guard watches and walls. if we learned anything from texas recently is snow storms are minor innconviences and if not, they are just peasants anyhow..no rush. by all means the democrats should finish what they are doing first.

Nobody's talking about using the civil justice system here.  It's important to know why this happened and to make sure that it won't happen again.

Perhaps in the course of that inquiry we uncover certain things, such as, say, inside help for what occurred.  At that point we invoke the powers of the criminal justice system to exact punishment and retribution, to promote deterrence, etc.  But finding isn't just a "criminal" exercise; Congress can further that objective as well though a commission.

GLENN GREENWALD: The False and Exaggerated Claims Still Being Spread About the Capitol Riot.

Over and over, no evidence has emerged for the most melodramatic media claims — torn out Panic Buttons and plots to kill Vice President Mike Pence or Mitt Romney. What we know for certain, as The Washington Post noted this week, is that “Despite warnings of violent plots around Inauguration Day, only a smattering of right-wing protesters appeared at the nation’s statehouses.” That does not sound like an ongoing insurrection, to put it mildly.

All this matters because it inherently matters if the media is recklessly circulating falsehoods about the most inflammatory and significant news stories. As was true for their series of Russiagate debacles, even if each “mistake” standing alone can be dismissed as relatively insignificant or understandable, when they pile up — always in the same narrative direction — people rightly conclude the propaganda is deliberate and trust in journalism erodes further.

But in this case, this matters for reasons far more significant than corporate media’s attempt to salvage the last vestiges of their credibility. Washington, D.C. remains indefinitely militarized. The establishment wings of both parties are still exploiting the emotions surrounding the Capitol breach to justify a new domestic War on Terror. The FBI is on the prowl for dissidents on the right and the left, and online censorship in the name of combatting domestic terrorism continues to rise.

One can — and should — condemn the January 6 riot without inflating the threat it posed. And one can — and should — insist on both factual accuracy and sober restraint without standing accused of sympathy for the rioters.

Read the whole thing.

With the NAACP as counsel, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) on Tuesday sued the former president, his lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani, the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers, accusing them of conspiring to stage the Capitol insurrection and violating a law known as the Ku Klux Klan Act. The complaint explains that the law, enacted in 1871, “was intended to protect against conspiracies, through violence and intimidation, that sought to prevent Members of Congress from discharging their official duties. The statute was enacted in response to violence and intimidation in which the Ku Klux Klan and other organizations were engaged during that time period.”

While removed in time, the KKK Act was designed for precisely the sort of conduct witnessed in the lead-up to Jan. 6, namely a campaign to disenfranchise millions of voters (disproportionately African American) and subvert the election.

The lawsuit reads a lot like the House impeachment managers’ case against the ex-president, detailing the Big Lie that the election was stolen and the disgraced former president’s incitement of the mob. The complaint alleges, “Having delayed delivering his incendiary remarks to the crowd at the Ellipse in order to afford the Defendant Proud Boys an opportunity to arrive at the Capitol and overcome its initial defenses, Defendant Trump acted in concert with the Proud Boys, allowing them to clear the way for the arriving riotous crowd to descend on, and ultimately enter, the Capitol.”

The complaint also details the former president’s refusal to call off the mob. It reads, “Soon after members of the riotous crowd dispatched by Defendants Trump and Giuliani forcibly entered the Capitol and began roaming its halls and offices, Defendant Trump called upon them to disrupt the Electoral College ballot count, tweeting that ‘Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done.’” It also recounts that Giuliani, “while the insurrection was ongoing,” urged Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) in a voice message to “object to numerous states and raise issues so that we get ourselves into tomorrow ideally until the end of tomorrow.”

Thompson’s complaint concludes: “As a result of the acts set out in the above paragraphs committed in furtherance of this conspiracy, Plaintiff Thompson was hindered and impeded in the discharge of his official duties and suffered the deprivation of his right to be free from intimidation and threats in the discharge of his official duties, as explicitly protected under Ku Klux Klan Act.” In addition, “when the Capitol was under attack, Plaintiff Thompson suffered emotional distress.”

And in a deft touch, the complaint quotes Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) speech after he voted to acquit the ex-president on Saturday:

There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day. The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president. And their having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole which the defeated President kept shouting into the largest megaphone on planet Earth.

Tibs referenced lawsuits being filed in the post you replied to.  He linked to a WaPo article referencing a short time later.  There seems to be a voracious appetite to hash this out through the civil justice system.

The commission will push forward because that’s what politicians do—give them the opportunity to grandstand, showboat and destroy the opposition through innuendo, leaks, unsubstantiated accusations and they’ll run with it.

This should be dealt with in the criminal justice system where at least in theory, justice is blind.

Maybe that’s the case.  But, much like trump was welcome to

litigate the Big Lie, so too are all welcome to avail themselves of the court system to seek redress.

Absolutely—that’s the way our system works.  The question isn’t whether or not it CAN be done, the question is what is the appropriate means of resolving questions involving allegations of criminality.

The civil justice system is impressive and incredible when it works, a quagmire of foolishness, stupidity and greed when it does not.

As for anything of value being gained from politicians being political, we all know how that plays out, but typically only complain about it when the other side does it.

Always good to hear from Romney on the peaceful transfer of power. I remember him as the candidate who started the transfer weeks BEFORE the election, of course he wasn’t transferring it to himself....he had given up and started transferring it to his opponent. Nice job Mitt!

None of this should have happened that day.

Once again, Trump lied and people died.

400,000+ dead Americans wasn’t enough on his watch, right?

Do you realize how pathetic you look posting absolute garbage like this?

ARMED INSURRECTION? OMG LIBERALS FRIGHTENED !!!

er wait not armed...just more fake ass victimization nonsense...

==========================================================================================

Not one person has been charged with possessing or using a gun inside the Capitol. Further, no one even has been identified as carrying a gun inside the building.

Since the Justice Department launched its nationwide manhunt to track down and arrest anyone involved with the Capitol breach on January 6, hundreds of perpetrators have been arrested.

Most face misdemeanor charges for trespassing or disorderly conduct, but dozens are in jail and denied bond for the thoughtcrime of believing the 2020 presidential election wasn’t on the up-and-up. The acting U.S. attorney general overseeing the investigation promises to apprehend hundreds more, however, it’s been two weeks since authorities have arrested anyone in connection to the probe.

Almost as embarrassing as the bad behavior of a handful of Trump supporters that day is the conduct of the national news media and Washington lawmakers. The country has been subjected to a public group therapy session of sorts wherein grown adults—Republicans and Democrats alike, elected to defend the country at all costs—now recount their harrowing experiences on January 6, which include running away from no one in particular or insisting, without evidence, that they were on the verge of being “murdered.”

==========================================================================================

What a joke the US currently is. All due to hatred towards a president.

Nothing but leftist temper tantrums, bloviating and lies ever since their

Again the only person that was  killed was the UNARMED woman shot by the CAPITOL POLICE.

All the others died from strokes or heart attacks including the  policeman, His brother said he died of a stroke.

Dissent by Justice Thomas in election case draws fire for revisiting baseless Trump fraud claims

First of the left saying fraud claims were baseless is a flat out lie.

Over 5000 affidavits were signed by Americans citing numerous

claims of oddities with voting. They are all completely ignored.

I don't know if they were right or wrong, it's a tough thing to sign an

affidavit with the government if you're lying imho.

Secondly, the democrats believed like the word of god a single

anonymous whistleblower because it was against Trump.

Third, Justice Thomas is my new hero.

That seems to more true about both parties.  I mean President Biden still says Michael Brown was murdered by the police even though his own Eric Holder Justice department investigated and said it was a justified shooting.

Even if what you say is true it just means D's suck less.  You good with that?

I get this is a distraction away from the constant flood of lies the GOP tells, but did Biden say he was murdered? That would be kind of false, but nothing comparable to the attack on scientific truth. No even close

I did a quick search but didn't find a quote of President Biden using the word murder.  However I did find one from Vice President Harris and Senator Warren.

You may not think this as bad as Republican lies, but I would say lying to stoke racial tensions in the times we live in is aggregious.  Unless they didn't know, in which case they are incompetent nitwits.
