They got pummeled 33-6 and it was a prime time embarrassment. It was a beat down in every sense. Very much like last night was. However, it led to a run of victories and a change in team attitude that refocused their drive, desire and goal. That is how last night felt to me when I went to bed. I know I’m an old bastard but I remember my high school friends Tomahawking and singing the KC fight song as I came into to school that Tuesday. I live near Albany NY and many hated the Bills back then. Anyway that is my knee jerk reaction. If they can prove it Monday then I will feel much better. I just don’t see how this defense slows down Mahomes. Maybe if everyone was completely healthy, I’d feel different about our chances. Livinginthepast Posted October 15, 2020 Share Posted October 15, 2020 I remember that KC game and the thanksgiving massacre in Detroit in 1994 as being the worst non playoff national games that the SB teams played in. Last night was a mild flashback to those games. The big difference for me though is that those games were much more of a shock because the SB Bills teams were so stacked with talent. The KC game especially was a shocking comprehensive beat down of one the best teams in NFL history. However, at the same time, it is kind of silly to be comparing them to the 1991 Bills. Everybody wants to draw these comparisons to the "glory days' of the 1990's. I get it, those were great times. But, if you really feel the need to compare the two eras (which I don't see), this current squad would be closer in their development, to the 1988 or 1989 Bills teams. If you recall, the 1988 Bills started out 4-0, and got slaughtered by the Bears on the road, in week 5. They went on to win 8 of their last 11 games that year, for a record of 12-4. I thought of it as a single game very similar to last night's game from a single perspective: we were physically manhandled, particularly on defense. In the 1991 game, Christian Okoye ran wild and literally couldn't be stopped by the D, and we lost in an embarrassing style by a wide margin. The game last night was similarly flavored. More the feeling of knowing how good the teams were/are going into a primetime game and getting our collective asses handed to us. It's that shock of WTF just happened!! I get it’s fun to do the glory games thing and this game is a bump in the road/ rallying cry but it gets annoying and it unrealistic. This team hasn’t won a division crown let alone had the success of a SB run. The reason the Chiefs clobbered the Bills that night was because of maybe the loudest crowd I've ever heard. The Bills tackles couldn't hear Kelly's cadence and Derrick Thomas and crew had an absolute field day because of that. I don't think it was anything like last nights game other than it was an away game on National television. I thought about this KC game over the past week and expected us to be 5-0 and have our first loss to KC this year. We got destroyed by KC in 1991 but shook it off and had a great season. But you probably don't really need to go all the way back to 1991 then, to find an early season ass handling like this, when we still thought we had a good team. My point was, as hopeful as I am about the 2020 Bills, their greatness isn't really established yet. The 1991 Bils were coming off their 3rd consecutive playoff run, with a wild card loss, a conference championship loss, and a Super Bowl loss on their resume. Their playoff record in that era, at that time, was 4-3. There was no debating that they were a top tier team at that point. 2020 Bills still have a little ways to go to prove that. Woke up to see they'd been trounced in Arrowhead and went back to sleep. Not sure why but recall that MLB manager Leo Durocher died that day. Why I remember that, who knows? Main difference is, that Buffalo team had just come off a SB appearance. This Bills team hasn't won a playoff game. Hopefully they get their stuff straight and correct things. My concern is that the HC and COORDs did a poor job readying the team and it's another game of film on them. Means they gots to adjust and fast.
