Rob's House
Discuss in this thread https://www.foxnews.com/politics/new-york-ag-dissolve-nra-lawsuit Quote NRA President Carolyn Meadows called the lawsuit "a baseless, premeditated attack," claiming it targeted not just the NRA, but the constitutional rights it defends. "You could have set your watch by it: the investigation was going to reach its crescendo as we move into the 2020 election cycle," Meadows said in a statement. "It’s a transparent attempt to score political points and attack the leading voice in opposition to the leftist agenda. This has been a power grab by a political opportunist – a desperate move that is part of a rank political vendetta. Our members won’t be intimidated or bullied in their defense of political and constitutional freedom.”

dubs
I read the article and honestly it doesn’t look good from a distance. Time will tell if things at the NRA are actually corrupt or not. However, two other things are also true: 1) this is clearly a politically motivated and timed event. 2) No matter what is going on over there the inner working of the NRA don’t change the fact that firearm ownership is codified in the constitution and the only way to change that is to repeal that amendment. But since there’s not a chance in hell that would happen, we see the left do what they always do, resort to lawfare. Clearly designed to negate that support. 2. NYS is not interested in protecting members from corruption, but to destroy organization.

Kemp
Confusing a marketing organization with the 2nd amendment is bizarre. It's common knowledge, now, that the money NRA members contribute isn't going to theupholding of the 2nd amendment. It's going into the pockets of big-time criminals, yet the same people being fleeced are not complaining about the organization's leaders stealing their money. Criminals love stupid people. B-Man
Whenever the far left loses a debate, it doesn’t sharpen its arguments or seek compromise. Instead, it criminalizes those with whom it disagrees. That’s happening now in New York, where the attorney general is making a politicized attack on the National Rifle Association and the U.S. Constitution. New York’s Democratic and radically anti-Trump Attorney General Letitia James’ move to “dissolve” the NRA comes after a phony “fraud” investigation that was launched as an intimidation tactic. he suit against the National Rifle Association targets the group’s charismatic Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and three other NRA leaders. “The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” James said. “The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse.” But, really, James seems more interested in angling for a high-profile job in a future socialist White House than seeking justice. Charges that lavish spending by four executives led to $64 million in losses over three years doesn’t bear even casual financial scrutiny. The NRA is not taking it lying down. It filed a countersuit late Thursday, with NRA President Carolyn Meadows calling James’ effort “a baseless, premeditated attack on our organization and the Second Amendment freedoms it fights to defend.” Yup. It’s obvious New York’s move isn’t about justice; it’s about the hard-left’s political animus toward gun rights. But it’s typical of New York’s politicized justice system. Manhattan’s ultra-Democratic District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. has been investigating President Donald Trump with the same vigor and fidelity to truth as Christopher Steele “investigated” Trump’s supposed collusion with the Russians. https://issuesinsights.com/2020/08/07/n-y-s-attempt-to-dissolve-the-nra-far-lefts-war-against-the-constitution-never-ends/

dpberr
I'd agree the NRA is a corrupt organization and it starts with Wayne. I think Wayne has been gorging himself on NRA dues for years. I'd agree the NY Attorney General probably has a million better cases to prosecute than this one, and since this case is politically motivated, it's probably poorly thought out, with flimsy evidence. It'll do absolutely nothing but make the NRA look like a martyr. I'd agree that the NRA has absolutely nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment. They drape themselves in it but they aren't the last castle of defense for it. The NRA stopped representing the views of the majority of gun owners in America quite some time ago, probably in the 80s.

If it’s true then yes they should be charged and sentenced accordingly. Until then I’ll wait. And if I disagree I should send them MORE money. What makes you think I’ve sent them any money? You are very presumptuous which is a terrible look. And I love the use of the word “some” in your first sentence. So you’re saying there might be some embezzlement going in there too? If so why are you not so adamant about investigating the government as you are the NRA. Again contributing to the NRA is voluntary whereas taxes are not.
