Jake Fromm: Controversial comments

Words, words, and more words, yet you continue to say nothing.

Notice that still, after all these posts, not one of you has countered with any substantive evidence to support your position.

Hapless is the only one who has even attempted to put forth an argument. You've offered nothing, because you clearly have nothing to offer.

Actually my offer is very specific. Its for you, and all people in this thread posting that racism isn't real...

Please confirm you're willing to say this with your faces on camera in a zoom call. You can withhold your name and identity. Just want to put "thoughts" with "faces." Just a little experiment for our Bills community! Let's hear Buffalo tell us white people are the victims! Why hide that here? Let's share it with the world!

What time works for you, Rob? I can be flexible to your schedule.

You're free to schedule a time, too; I just posted a thread in PPP to make sure all of our Race Experts here know that we're willing to help get the word out on "One Buffalo: Racism Isn't Real."

Why should this wisdom be limited here? Let's heal the country.

You're shifting. That wasn't the point of anything either of us said.

What?

Hapless: "Fromm is not responsible for the acts of his state nor for historical acts.  But before he shoots off his mouth (or his fingers) you don't think he's obliged to understand the meaning of the stuff he says?  Especially as it applies to the black men he's going to be depending upon for whatever NFL career he has? "

Rob: "I would find this more persuasive if we were discussing a serious comment made publicly. I don't think one has an obligation to extensively study the history of an issue so as to avoid any topic that may offend the sensibilities of any particular group before making an off the cuff joke in a private text message."

Hapless: "I personally find the comments a person makes in private when they don't think they're gonna be overheard or publicized to be far more illuminating as to their actual beliefs and character, but You Do You."

Rob: "You're shifting"

No, Rob, I'm not shifting.  You're arguing pretty clearly that there should be a lower standard because it's not a serious comment and it's made in a private text message, as though speaking and texting with some awareness of how the world may be perceived by the guys you've been balling with since pee-wee.

My point is that's actually why it's more significant.  If you're for-real, you hold the same values publically and privately.  Private comments count more, because there's usually no accountability.  It's exactly my point.

I'd appreciate your time to find the survey you stated about 50% blacks not finding racism a major block.  I can not.

And no, I will hold myself to my own standard; we're in the football forum, talking about a football relevant topic.  I'm not going to broaden scope to give you a personal current events and history lesson here.  Peace out.

Just a little note that while most of the posters here are Bills fans, it's not a good assumption that we are all from Buffalo.

Also technical note that the forum does hide IP addresses and email, but that protection is not afforded if you contact someone outside the forum.  I have found this comforting from time to time when I'm being threatened.

Now you're twisting words, another tell tale sign of one who has no argument.

You're also reinforcing my position as your post implies that non-believers will be made to suffer if they do not submit to the oppressed minority theory of America.

It is not sufficient to refrain from racist behavior yourself - you must believe lest you be condemned.

If you're right, American minorities must be the most widely protected class of oppressed people in the history of the world.

This is all great, Rob! This is exactly the kind of great racial theory we're looking to capture from Bills fans.

Can we get you saying this on camera? Please schedule a time with me. I think your words could really help a lot of people understand this issue.

OK folks, let's try to keep this at least loosely in the context of relevance to football and the impact of current events on our locker room, football etc.  If you wish to opine about general theories of "non-believer" oppression and  suffering, PPP is still at your service.

My offer has been moved to a PPP thread.

I just want to see all the folks confident in their beliefs about racism say it out loud, so we can hear them Loud and Proud. It's easy to type "racism is most difficult for the white man" or whatever, but it's quite different to say and hear it.

I think if you expect others to accept your position and act affirmatively in accordance with that position you have an obligation to support and quantify your claims. I don't personally know anyone who is oppressing any minorities so I'm at a loss for how to address the issue.

Assuming you are facing significant systemic oppression imposed upon you by racist white people I would be open to hearing about it. If there's something within reason I can do to remedy the problem I'm happy to help. But I'm not going to blindly throw my support behind movements that appear to me to have ulterior motives without something a little more clear than the vague platitudes that dominate the discourse.

And telling me that I can't understand because I'm not you so I just have to take your word for it isn't very persuasive.

One example of systemic oppression of blacks and other minorities is the closure of thousands of voting poll locations that disproportionately impact their communities.

Spoken like a man who has been in many locker rooms and has played with many types of people. Can’t be rigid and judge and jury, no team exists with players from all the same backgrounds. Plus a person’s character is in how they treat people, jmo. Words are words and actions are actions.

You will find examples of this in every industry. Mine, for example: https://thecounter.org/usda-black-farmers-discrimination-tom-vilsack-reparations-civil-rights/

I'd be happy to hear about it, but I'm retiring to PPP for any further discussion on the matter.

Glad to hear that from Lorax though. It's always nice when a player you like turns out to be a good guy.

You’ll never find me at PPP again, but the information is out there and easy to find.

The examples are out there but that won’t satisfy anyone who doesn’t think systemic oppression exists. Unless you have someone saying out loud, “Yes, we’ve enacted these measures to oppress people.”, then the problem just isn’t real. As if actions aren’t and haven’t always been so telling.

Exactly what I've been saying! Context and actions! Words are meaningless, people say stuff they don't mean all the time... it is not the true them.
