What Are You Doing For New Years Eve?

T&C

Recommended Posts

Got roped into going to a friends house tonight to meet up w/ family. Not really looking forward to it, but it is what it is. Soccer Mom community where everyone thinks it's cool to drink, party and whoop it up (even though they're in their 40's, they act like 21 yr olds). To make this night even better, I know I'll be stuck as the DD...so I get watch this nightmare unfold...sober. Yay me!!

My countdown to retire is 154 days...Mrs. Lew too.

New Years Eve will be spent playing board and card games with  grandson.

I will teach him 52 pickup

my earliest out is November 1 and the way the year at work ended I may just take it

You're the person I need to talk to. Writing is my passion. I have taken the AWAI copywriting course, Steve Slaunwhites copywriting course and am three courses away from completing a Tech Writing Certificate. This is what I want to do work wise in the next stage of my life. I was hoping to make the jump from my day job but that didn't materialize as I hoped. I have been published in journals related to my field but am still seeking the path to do something along your lines.

I just sent you a PM.

you live on the corner of or perpendicular to a street with a stop sign?

i’d guess 3 or 4 times idiots were drunk and/or icy conditions caused a bump into a house in my childhood hood

No.  The road curves moderately which makes the event of impromptu lawn ornaments seem somewhat improbable.

I’m an Uber guy if I’m having a few pops. There is NO WAY ON EARTH I would pay for whatever that surge pricing might be. It’s just one night of the year.

I think Times Square for NYE is in my Top Ten Nightmare scenarios! You would have to pay me a  fortune to do that!

2 things.

1. I know a guy in Orlando who drives Uber 1 night a year, NYE, and he makes about $3,500.

2. The zombie apocalypse will begin in Times Square.

1. Quiet dinner alone (widower)-son & daughter in law have plans; my daughter runs a major wedding venue locally and has a New Years Eve wedding booked.

2. Watch the Senior Citizen Ball drop at 8PM; bed by 8:15

3. New Years Day-start prep "cheffing" for my kids and daughter in law st 5:30AM; Sliced Tenderloin with marsala mushroom sauce; broiled lobster tails with garlic butter; Shrimp Fra Diavolo;  sauteed green beans in olive oil and pancetta; Caesar salad with homemade dressing; AND A MAJOR LEAGUE NAP..............

Your NY-DAY sounds a lot more fun than your NY-EVE! And delicious!

Our son and his fiancé are on their way to her parents lake house. I don’t blame them! My wife and I will play our annual best of three backgammon tournament to determine the 2020 Champion. She will go to bed WAAAY before midnight. I might make it that far.

She leaves for work tomorrow for the rest of the week. I’ll watch some football and get ready for Saturday!

Well at the gym now. Heading home for an early celebration. I’m falling off the wagon because

my boss gave me a bottle of 2005 Cristal.  I brought it home and the wife said “ooooh the cat and I’ll enjoy that!”  Ummmm no way baby. I fall off for that.

YUM!

Would you like some advice on what to accompany it with?

We went to Sarasota, FL for Christmas and met with a lot of old friends. One couple is seriously into fine (and expensive) beverages. Love these folks, so the wife had me take a $250+ bottle of Champagne. I got an insulated bag and took it along on the drive down......only to be told a brought A bottle of Champagne from the garage fridge, not THE bottle of Champagne. Oops!

Her former boss is seriously into this stuff and looks for opportunities to expose her to the good stuff. She once told him she didn’t like Champagne and he told her because she hadn’t had GOOD Champagne. He was right. He has to tell her “you do NOT put OJ in this!”

Steak and scallops, goose island IPAs and sweet, slow love making to my wife.

I’m confident 2 of 3 will happen.

Scallops are overrated anyway.

I hope you have a plan for the next phase. That is surprisingly important. These’s more to it than the guy above.

No plans. We were planning to do a work/play trip to California beginning VERY early NYD, but a death in the family means my wife has to get there and back ASAP with no time for me or play. I’ll sit at home as is generally the case on New Years Eve. It can get sketchy out there!

thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you have a nice combination of structure and freedom

It’s my birthday so I’m taking the family to redeem A free night at a hotel, let my older kid swim for a bit and have dinner there. Trying to spend as much time with the family before my long work trip starts in January.

Lol. It's my sisters birthday as well. Always thought that her birthday got a bit over shadowed by NYE every year. I think it bothered me more than her.

Hope you and the fam have a great night.

HA! It was cathartic, but it also sounded whiney upon review, so I went back and deleted it! Glad you caught the long version while it was up. (Assumption there.)

The writing goal sounds awesome, as you can do that from anywhere at any time. It’s funny how the world is changing so this is true for so many positions. I did a Johnson O’Conner aptitude test when we moved here knowing I’d need to reinvent myself. Editor is one of the things that popped up high on the list. Is it any wonder that this place can make me crazy at times? ?

FWIW - I am the Grand Champion of Backgammon 2020 having won the best of three tournament with my wife. Slow start, but the cream rose to the top! Best wishes for a great new year from the Grand Master!

I am drinking gin and tonics, on the theory that tonic water contains quinine, so is effective against fevers, so is a suitable treatment for the flu.

I will claim it's working, as I feel much less bad after four gin and tonics.
