These players are at work. Do retail cashiers get mercied on black friday if the store is too busy? Why should football players? If the game is painful to watch, your mercy rule is the power button on your tv.

Mercy rules exist in situations - Youth sports, bar league sports, etc - Where you as the player paid a league and refs to play.  

 

These guys are making millions of dollars - there's ad revenue at stake - play it out.
