Whistleblower Aid was launched in September 2017 — eight months after Trump's inauguration — with an advertising blitz that involved mobile billboards being driven close to the White House, Congress, outside the Pentagon, and around the headquarters of the CIA and National Security Agency. The group’s pledge of support, in addition to free legal representation including rent and mortgage assistance, media coaching, and doctor’s bills and counseling, is controversial among lawyers. You want our presidents to be able to wave hundreds of millions of dollars at foreign leaders to investigate their leading political rivals? You don't see that as troubling? You don't spend 2.5 years trying to clear your name with your association with Russia, just to turn around and try to use another foreign power to investigate a political rival. Probably because in a sense, their lives actually do depend on it. Without Donald Trump to breathlessly cover, they’d pretty much be screwed.
