Even easier than chasing x and y through Algebra, a good probability and statistics course could get you there. ?
US Egg
The public schools I went to let me down. Only had to take two years of math in High School. But, you should see my macrame skills.

unbillievable
It's a very good statistical gamble, and is a guaranteed payout out over a long time period. The gamble, however is getting wiped out if a single 5 digit winner hit during those 9 years; an insignificant chance. Think of it as a reverse lottery ticket. If you buy a losing ticket for $2, you win $3. But if the ticket hits all 5 numbers.. you become homeless. Would you take the chance? row_33
it worked this time, so it is wonderful about the same odds as winning the lottery and i don't believe a word about stories told of gambling and the like, outside of thinking "that's a good story..." Augie
That’s awesome! I saw a bumper sticker one time that said: “LOTTERY - a tax on people who are bad at math!” ....but if you are good at math...... ? (My next favorite bumper sticker said: “I love to cook with wine....sometimes I even put it in the food”) . Edited June 10, 2019 by Augie
ocemur
Reminds me of guy in Europe maybe thirty or forty years ago. He realized that roulette wheels were expensive and didn't get replaced. As they started to wear, they were no longer random. He walked away with millions. He broke the bank in a couple of casinos.
Greybeard
They should do a story on the store where the tickets were purchased. Did they go into the store and say "Give me 100,000 quick pics?" I also wonder how long it would take for a store to do that?

Today once they see you starting to win a bunch of times, security would be coming over to watch and probably hail you out for suspected cheating.... I worked with someone here in Ontario that said he knew someone really well that worked for the government in the lottery, said that now that they don't use the balls in the bowl machines anymore, it's all computerized to randomly pick the numbers for each draw. They also can control when a winning ticket will be drawn (but not who or where) which allows them to control the jackpots. I don't know how true it is, but I have noticed that around holidays (right around Christmas when a draw is being held) there's always a large jackpot that gets won right around that time (makes a great story seeing someone win big for the holidays) along with when they are trying to promote something. They just added a draw on Tuesdays now to one of the bigger lotteries here and upped the max jackpot to it. Next Tuesday the Jackpot will be the highest it's ever been, and I won't be shocked if no one wins it until then (also makes a great promotional story to see someone win the highest jackpot on the new day they started having draws). Mr Info
This guy won the lottery 14 times and masterminded the crush on the $27M VA lottery in ‘92...good story, too. https://thehustle.co/the-man-who-won-the-lottery-14-times

He and his wife had to stay at gas stations and Marta like all day long. They were actually hired by these places just to sit there all day and I put numbers. Then they split cuts with the store owners in spots. They also hired people to do this. Family members and so forth.

WhoTom
The guaranteed way to win the lottery is to run the lottery; they win every time! Just like casinos (usually).

The house always wins in the long run. Three things I only do on long drives: fast food; Mountain Dew; buy a lottery ticket. None are good for you, but I give in during those long drives.
