RaoulDuke79 2,881 Posted June 9 I'll watch the US women. I just hope the focus stays on the game and not the lawsuit or whatever else they have an issue with.

Teddy KGB 2,844 Posted June 9 Watching Cade McNown, Jake Plummer, and Chris Chandler in this rerun skills challenge > anything with a soccer ball involved except Kicking and Screaming and Ladybugs.

I'm watching now....RJ is leading heading into the last event. I wonder how badly he'll blow it. Also, every episode I've watched, McNabb is horrible. But yes, I'll watch some girls soccer with my kids.

I learned to like soccer later in life when my son played in HS. I came to really appreciated the game.

Nextmanup 1,632 Posted June 10 I'm a big fan of soccer and watched the opening match as well as Germany vs. China. Had the Italian game recorded earlier today and I'll watch that too. Looking forward to seeing the USA, who probably has the most potent front 3 in the tournament. But the level of play of even a team like Germany (one of the favorites) is kind of tough to watch. The level of play in some respects is below watching St. Joe's play Canisius in boys high school soccer. When I was at St. Joe's, a buddy of mine was on the team and he went on onto play at the college level. He was about 6'3" and 195 lbs. in high school; one time he took a shot from near midfield, hit the crossbar, and the entire net bounced around. His level of athleticism as a teenager who would later go on to achieve basically nothing (LOL) in soccer is higher than what these women are capable of at the elite World Cup level. It's a slow moving game with a lot of weak legs.

There's a big gap between the elite women's teams and most of the tournament field. But a good fight is always entertaining. You could tell there was bad blood between England and Scotland. Japan/Argentina @12 and Canada/Cameroon @3 today. USA/Thailand is @3 Tuesday, last match of the opening round. Edited June 10 by PromoTheRobot
eball 6,336 Posted June 10 The only games I'll watch are the US women...I just can't stay interested in women's soccer and basketball because the level of athleticism/speed is so far below the men's game. I don't think that makes me a misogynist -- I just enjoy the men's game more and if I have limited time to watch sporting events I'll choose just about anything over a women's team game. One notable exception is women's volleyball -- both indoor and beach. Love watching both of these during the Olympics.

If it's entertaining to watch equally matched opponents, then just send a bunch of 5yr olds out there.

Women's sports that excel above men's usually involve some form of balance; like dance. So the only women's sports I pay attention to are gymnastics and figure skating. Volleyball, never did anything for me.
