RIP BIlly Buckner

during the Kison/George Bell karate kick brawl Buckner kicked the Jays aged pitching coach when the old man was on the ground, i was 10 rows up on the sidelines at The Ex enjoying one of the more noted games of the era in 1985....

the 86 WS infamy could not have happened to a nicer guy  :D

but hey, all is well, his appearance on Curb was a great and grand gesture, and he helped the 74 Dodgers get to the WS.

RIP Sir....

I was going to make a long post about the brittleness and fickleness of the New England sports fan, but decided not to waste my Memorial Day.

Short story 1: Billy Buckner deserved better fans.

Short story 2: I hope St. Louis clobbers the Bruins.

2700 hits and less than 500 strikeouts. What a fantastic career and unfortunately remembered for one play. And from everything I’ve read he was a fantastic human being.

As the saying goes, you can build a thousand houses, but if you ***** one sheep, you're known as a sheep ***** and not a carpenter.

that was a World Series where fans of neither team picked a side with total hate and fire against the other.

unless it's the Yankees it very rarely happens to get fans watching to that level of interest

I really think you just made that up.

But it needed to be made up.  It's a good saying.

RIP

If I’m ever battling dementia, I pray the end comes quickly....... More for my family than myself.

And to be known for that one play is terrible, but it IS the first thing I thought of. Life is not always fair. Prayers to his family and friends.

I’m not sure if he made it up, or just heard it a lot. As he said......

I remember that game like it was yesterday and I am a very casual MLB fan.  I was watching with guys at college with some from NYC and others from Boston.  Good spirited ball busting and beer drinking.  I miss those days.

it was just as the Jays got going in 85, and every **** from Southwestern Ontario who cheered for the Tigers chose to cheer for the Red Sox obnoxiously.

and those Mets were a vile bunch, probably the most hated baseball team ever, taking curtains calls and taunting the opponents after sac flies made it 15-0 Mets

so it was a fun watch in residence as people took it way too seriously

I still think Mookie had a good chance of beating him to the bag.  The only reason the ball went in between his legs was because he knew he had to hurry the heck up to get Mookie at 1st.

RIP.  Great ball player

The blame rightfully belongs on the manager, who should have had a defensive replacement in the game. Buckner could hardly walk and yes, he knew he needed to hustle to beat Mookie.

As a young Mets fan that still ranks as one of my all-time favorite moments. Sucks Buckner had to put up with that schitt for the rest of his life. The Sox could still have won game 7.

Norwood has it tougher.
