The Pitt game hasn't gone well so far though.

Teams with more depth usually grind out the win even if the opponent is putting up a good fight. That’s probably why they will end up beating Pity too Edited October 6, 2018 by YoloinOhio

suorangefan4
Syracuse got screwed against Pitt. Pitt had 4th-and-3 with 2:34 left trailing 37-34. They ran it and the runner was a half yard short but the ref gave him a ridiculous spot to give Pitt the first down. They then got in field goal range to send it to OT. Pitt then won it OT. Syracuse could've put themselves in a position to overcome a bad call / spot but they clearly stopped the Pitt runner short on 4th down which would've came close to sealing the win for them. He was a whole half yard. One of the worst spots I'ever ever seen. Syracuse got forked by the zebras.

Besides, Cuse threw the pick in OT, not the officials.

JohnC
Where Syracuse is ranked doesn't alter the fact how quickly this coach has turned around a moribund program into a relevant program. In addition, Syracuse is also an entertaining team to watch. This program was for so long stuck in the graveyard of middling programs. It would sometimes bump up a little but for the most part it was a dead program not only to the college ranks but also to its own community. For what this program has accomplished I say good for them. And I'm also happy that UB is becoming a relevant program. I would love to see these in-state teams play one another and make it a regular tradition.

In the past there were short intervals that appeared to be the start of something good. But nothing further materialized. Marrone was not going to be a long term solution because he was always looking to move up the ranks. I'm not criticizing him for his ambitions but I am saying that under him the program's upward trajectory wasn't a serious change of direction. My sense is the current coach is moving the program forward.

For sure Marrone always wanted bigger things... but say, if he’s stayed for 6+ years I think the program would’ve been righted its about sustaining success as you mentioned which has been hard to do recently at SU

And if you check out the recruits you will notice that the recruiting has been from a wide range of locations. Instead of looking back to the prior Marrone era whose tenure was never going to be for the long-haul give credit to the current coach who has done a terrific job in a very challenging environment for a program that was mostly down for a long time. I don't know if other programs are interested in Dino Babers but without question he would be an attractive coach for a big program that is now floundering. I hope he stays a while and gets the program fully established. Appreciate what you got and don't dwell on the past. I'm also hoping that the UB coach stays with the program and builds on the foundation that he has established. As I said before I would love to see each of the programs be successful and become in-state rivals.

Dungey has been pretty damn good when healthy (with the exception of the last few weeks before this most recent game, though I suspect he's been hurt this year too) and Tommy DeVito participated in the UnderArmour All-America game and has looked great every time he's played so far in his career. It's more or less fodder for pundits to discuss in the lead up to games. For example, if Syracuse and Notre Dame happen to win their next two games, it'll likely be a matchup of two top 10-15 teams, in which case it will be hyped up a lot and a win over a top 15 Syracuse team could be enough of a resume boost to keep Notre Dame's playoff chances alive even if they lose a game at some point. I guess, their master plan of reducing every team to trash that isn’t in the playoff is working wonders considering that at most 12 teams have remotely had a shot at the playoff since week one
H2o
I actually see Syracuse and that offense they have as Notre Dame's toughest game remaining on the schedule. I never overlook any team as a Notre Dame fan because I have seen Brian Kelly's teams sh*t the bed when on the biggest of stages multiple times. This game though is the one I fear the most of the remaining 4 right now.

The thing is that Dungey has been very hit or miss this season and if he's missing against Notre Dame, it'll probably take Dino too long to bench him for Syracuse to have a chance. They need him to bring his A game (assuming he's still the starter by then).
