Eighth-year man Charles Clay headlined the group, followed by names familiar to Bills fans such as Logan Thomas, Nick O’Leary and Jason Croom. Also in the mix were blocking specialist Khari Lee and former Louisville Cardinal Keith Towbridge. As the Bills trimmed the roster to 53 players they decided to part ways with Nick O’Leary and Keith Towbridge. O’Leary had been with the Bills since being selected in the sixth round of the 2015 draft. Prior to yesterday’s practice, Bills head coach Sean McDermott offered some insight into the decisions made at the position. “What more could I say about Nick [O’Leary]? His play stood out and spoke for itself,” said McDermott. “He was very consistent and a dependable and tough football player, I have a lot of respect for Nick and his family.” Although the team has proceeded in a direction unfamiliar to those around the organization and the fanbase, McDermott says that he is comfortable with the four men on the roster. Freddie's Dead Posted September 4, 2018 Share Posted September 4, 2018 For a TE who's made as many plays as O'Nicklaus has the last few years, it's surprising he hasn't generated interest. Dude has a career 14.8 YPC average on only 32 career receptions. He makes plays and catches the ball. Guess that's not good enough anymore. My read is Daboll is all about mismatches and Logan Thomas and Croom offer much better athleticism than Nick Oleary and are also much taller targets on seam routes or quick hit RPO slants. Easier passes for NP or JA to hit on and these 2 guys can get some YAC as well. I see a lot of two TE sets as a staple of our offense. Both Clay and Croom can flex and I envision Daboll utilizing them much like NE*** prefers when they have two athletic talents at the position. If we can hurt teams with these mismatches, DCs will be forced to use sub packages to counter and that's when I see Daboll going to more up tempo play calling if he likes what he sees. For instance, if DCs sub in more favorable coverage packages with smaller guys who can cover, I see Daboll bringing the TEs back inside and running the ball relentlessly until DCs sub bigger packages to counter and Daboll then flexing them wide again. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
