SCOTUS Rules Federal Ban on Sports Betting Unconstitutional

Recommended Posts

I don't gamble because the consequences could be disastrous, but you could get rich betting against the Bills in prime time, traveling to the West Coast to face the Chargers or Raiders, and home games against the Pats.

Wish this was legal during the 00’s. I’d be sitting on some nice change. Betting against the Bills was a safe bet.

Good. Now if SCOTUS would rule the way I wish them to on the other 8 big cases I'll be one happy mofo

Mention your wishes here, and I’m sure it will all be taken care of. I’m pretty sure they check this site on a regular basis.....

I’m quite certain another topic has already deemed McD’s locker room to be unconstitutional. They might want to look into that violation of the separation of church and state.

It comes down to one simple premise: "Always do the right thing". Simple, really......

Absolutely, and that “right thing” is for individual human beings to decide, not the government.

Over 80% of my county property taxes goes towards medicaid, for ppl in NYC.  So no, you're wrong.

It's obvious that you don't understand how Medicaid works in NYS..

Licensing, promotions/ad rev, partnership.

Are any pro leagues getting any of this where sports gambling is legal now?

Good luck with that.

They will blow all the tax revenue in NYC on useless BS.

Just like CA, we should be trying to separate the state. Us rural folks literally and figuratively "pay the price" for the big city on the coast.

Useless BS?  Like the "Buffalo Billion"--now the biggest scam in state funding history?

Its a big ol country with lots lots of rural states without a city on the coast... if you think it’s a pressing issue

Or instead of just dealing with things the way they are.... We can try to constantly improve to best serve the whole citizenship.

But, you know... Carry on trolling with your "if you don't like it just move" attitude. If everyone was like that nothing will have ever been changed for the better.

I was born here and have family here. Trust me if I was picking a state to live in with no ties, NY would be 49th on my list.

If I heard the radio correctly the cross country kickball games over seas do it in their stadium.

You can stay put if you want. I don’t particularly care. It’s your life, man. Just seemed you were more unhappy with the state than most so maybe changing your own situation would be more feasible than changing the state as a whole.

I’m just here reading football news. You brought your opinions on politics and your life situation into the thread on gambling.

Well if the State has any part in it, they will screw it up so that it costs more to administer than they take in, just like OTB.

It will be more like pocket-lining revenue.

Yeah. That is what liberal socialist democracy thinking looks like.(they all fail eventually)

They see this as a jobs program. The don't care that it will cost more to pay the salaries, health care, retirement etc etc.. of the bureaucracy hired to administrate this, then they take in, or, that it will eventually require a tax payer bailout into infinity.

Liberals call it economic development. And love it.

Conservatives call it wealth redistribution. And hate it.

Hard to run on "family values" and legalize prostitution...although that morality line seems to be getting blurrier by the day.

No it's not, all somebody just needs is $130k to shut a slut up. Well, for a little while.

A home equity line of credit will do.

Right on. NY State without NYC would have economic indicators in line with states like West Virginia and Mississippi. The “separatists”  would be sorry if they got what they wish for.

Considering WNY has the highest percentage of young college educated adults, I think if we would do fine with a new government, so long as they were willing to cut taxes AND social programs down to the norm.

Honesty question.

is there any statistical evidence to back up that claim?

There's not.  The Cities carry the country.  There wouldn't even be enough tax dollars in the country to provide infrastructure, etc... People forget it was the industrialized cities that subsidized things as basic as rural electrification.

Funny how people think.  But the 1200 in a small town all flip a switch to turn on lights, flush a toilet and possibly send their crap down a community sewer to be treated, have their trash hauled away, or jump in a car and zoom off to Walmart on a smooth, lit, plowed in winter, road... 1200 people spread out sparsely don't provide enough tax dollars to carry the load they are consuming. Funny how they think they do.

Promo above was spot on.  It's the exact opposite.  The industrial city carries the modern conveniences that the country enjoys. Unless they want to go back to an agrarian, non-consumer way of life... They shouldn't be complaining.

Always remember...all Lottery revenue in NYS goes to the schools. I read that somewhere.

Yeah, they said the same things to get Californians to vote for the lottery. People I know that work in school systems say all that trickles down to the schools is peanuts.

The counties are mandated to provide the funds for those services, including Medicaid, for their own county.  In other states, the taxes to support Medicaid are pooled statewide.

If a county has a low tax base and a high Medicaid usage, property taxes will be high to close the gap.  Your taxes in whatever county you live in don't pay for NYC Medicaid costs.

Must be a lot of ppl on Medicaid in Niagara County then...  My taxes are stupid high.

Wow, all I could find are numbers circa 2013, 90k ppl on Medicaid in Niagara county with a population of 212k.  42% of people in Niagara county are on medicaid?  WTF.

No wonder why the population is receding and taxes are going up...
