Chuck Wagon
The only trade I thought wasĀ questionable in Mock 1 was the Cardinals trading David Johnson to get up to get Baker.Ā I just don't see him as a player who is anywhere near available for them.Ā But for the purposes of the exercise it could have reasonably been considered they would trade their 2019 1st to move up and get the last QB. Ā It seems that QB isn't a need per se but that the team also wouldn't be against getting one. Ā Tannehil hasn't played meaningful football since December of 2016 and he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire either. Ā Rosen at 11 when his comp that comes up time again as Marino? Ā Pick makes itself. Ā In real life if a top guy is on the board after the Broncos pick every team between them and the Fins would be a likely trade partner for the Bills. 1 minute ago, Chuck Wagon said: The only trade I thought wasĀ questionable in Mock 1 was the Cardinals trading David Johnson to get up to get Baker.Ā I just don't see him as a player who is anywhere near available for them.Ā But for the purposes of the exercise it could have reasonably been considered they would trade their 2019 1st to move up and get the last QB. As the "owner" of the Cardinals when that deal went down, I actually offered the 2019 1st, and a few other picks, to move up.Ā But was counter offered the D. Johnson deal and accepted. Ā Main line of thinking was that, yeah Johnson has been good, but RBs are a dime'a'dozen these days QBs are not.Ā We do not have a long-term QB, and with that trade we can still get a very talented RB with the remaining picks on the draft.Ā Ā

Chuck Wagon
I'm not going to lie, I'm genuinely conflicted here.Ā First I'm not sure I see the draft playing out remotely like this.Ā Second, if it did, there's no way this pick isn't traded.Ā The best position player on my board (by a gap) doesn't remotely fit the 49ers scheme, the best player overall on my board makes zero sense here and would ruin the integrity of this exercise. Ā But for the sake of some integrity, the 49ers select: Ā Derwin James, DB, Florida St. Ā Ā Mike Mayock's analysis: Ā The 49ers run a cover 3 scheme similar to the Seahawks, as such long corners are required, which rules out Ward.Ā As badly as the team wanted to take Rosen, it simply makes no sense.Ā James versatility could potentially allow him to slot in as a long term successor to Richard Sherman, or in the "Cam Chancellor" role of the defense.
