Those guys were cut some slack because their coaches knew they had a lot more going for them. What are we supposed to hope for from a 5th round pick? I think he was the beneficiary of the "not a big arm but accurate" cliche. He played in a gimmicky offense that people presumed was pro-style because he took snaps under centre, his footwork is still inconsistent and his ball placement isn't great. What he does do well is throw on time and that was the thing Dennison obviously liked about him. Unfortunately it is often on time to the other team. If that is what he becomes then it was a good/reasonable investment for the pick. Peterman had a horrible starting debute that many people want to permanently scar him. And to this day people still chortle over it. I don't have great expectations on how his career will materialize. And like I said when drafted his ceiling is a 15 year Clip board holder. It is perfect Competition for the other BU QB on the roster AJ McCarron. Too much of a stretch and trying to hard. He is still very much a wild card - but comparing him to a HOF is just as unfair as judging him on his 1 game. That is exactly what I hoped (and thought) when they drafted him. I thought he could be a heady backup that could keep you afloat for a 4 game stretch. I don’t think that now but am not completely ruling it out either. I wasn’t as low on him as Gunner and Blokes and they watched WAY more of him than me. That is scary. The guys that have watched him the closest like him the least. He is going to have a tough time being on this roster IMO. If they trade up and have Rosen and McCarron (for example) and Dennison gone, why keep him?
