What ya'll are getting with AJ

OK, if AJ is as good as all that, and is ready to start and win -- move up in the draft by trading picks and Shady, and draft Barkley.  Or do that if you aren't sure any of the rookies are really going to be better than AJ.

Or get Calvin Ridley.  Really starting to think that may be a possibility.

I don't honestly know how any Bills fan can read this and think for a second that the Bills want Josh Rosen in their lockerroom.

What's wrong with Rosen in the lockerroom? Plenty of teammates have vouched for him.

To be honest, Stabler and Namath were the only Bama QBs to scrounge up for comparison.  It's not a school that creates QBs.

AJC may be a fierce competitor, but knocking Mayfield , who, in a moment of competitive passion (and in response to Kansas's bizarre refusal to shake his hand at the coin toss and for a late hit he took), gave his crotch and tossed an F-you to their bench after he threw a TD.

So what.  It continues to amaze me that so many here would rule him out as an option for Qb for this team ---over that!  Completely nuts!!

you don't think Phil Rivers cusses out everyone around him on both sides of the line of scrimmage every game he has ever played??

I would be very happy if the Bills can get Mayfield, Darnold or Rosen.  I could find my way to accepting Jackson or Allen.

i think that Rudolph and White are likely out of the question now as it looks like they are moving up further to get one of the top guys, but I like what I've seen from both.

AJ had great stats, even when playing in a ball control offense, has the same fire and leadership, and won 2 championships. Arm strength is similar, leadership is similar, AJ is bigger, has NFL playoff experience (should have gotten a win, thanks Bungles), yet he is considered a backup...I just don't get it, but again I am admittedly ignorant to the politics and economics of the NFL and the seemingly never ending search for a "franchise" quarterback (Johnny Manziel, anyone?)

Maybe you can help me out here.  What exactly is the knock on AJ?  He looked great at Alabama.  Looked like he had all the throws.  The short ball control ones and the long ones.  I wanted us to draft him.  But, he didn't get drafted til the 5th round.  Why is that?  He seems to everything TBD wants in a QB except a top 5 draft pick.  He's tall.  An accurate pocket passer. A winner.

I do agree with you on the not beating out Dalton thing.  Dalton is the Bungles franchise QB and was before AJ got there. You gotta knock out the champ.  My opinion, Especially after seeing him play in 2015 was that, while he couldn't knock out the champ, he could probably go toe to toe with him for the distance. Doesn't mean he's not good by any means.

I look forward to watching AJ play for the Bills this year.

There was plenty of noise regarding his disrespecting some players as well - particularly those that weren't up to his standards.

What follows is what I surmise and do not know, but I think I am entirely on point here:

I think Rosen is an extremely intelligent person, one that comes from a liberal left coast upbringing. It is not above him to challenge and question everything around him and take nothing at face value.

The QB we just brought in is a Christian, first and foremost. He wears a cross in the middle of his chest; he's supported Donald Trump; and he's come to work for a head coach that speaks passionately about acceptance of a process and thanks God at every press conference. The new DLman - and I know nothing about his religion or politics - is likewise cut from a cloth that sounds perfectly aligned with what McDermott has come to represent.

To me? Rosen and McDermott would never, ever co-exist well. I am not trying to say that McD is anti-Semitic, or only wants Christians in his lockerroom. But part of the faith of truly reborn Christians is about submitting the self to the larger organism, to the larger path. For the life of me, I can't see Josh Rosen in that lockerroom. (Not to mention, he came out as a junior and McD has been quite expressive about staying with seniors. And if you think about it, in talking about being a senior he's talking about commitment.)

[edit: please do not lecture me about Judiasm, about whether they can follow that path or suggest some sort of anti-Semitic tirade against me. My mother is Jewish, and a good portion of her family died in the concentration camps.]

This is a good post - I agree with pretty much all of it.  Specially the last sentence.  Nice job.

I hope AJ is a pleasant surprise and might do well in a short passing scheme. I don't know where this strong arm talk is coming from, though. He isn't going to wow anyone with his arm strength or deep ball, but hopefully he can pick things up quickly. He also isn't going to do much running either. He's a lead foot lol. That's OK by me. Miami went undefeated with Bob Griese and he didn't have the strongest arm or footspeed either -- He made quick decisions and had good accuracy. If AJ can match that, he'll be solid.

Actually Earl Marrall started more games for the Fish that year.

I always considered Don's call of starting Bob G in the Super Bowl a very gutsy call.  You win 10 in a row with one guy and then bench him in the SB.  Crazy.  But it worked.

Thanks for posting! I read a few things about him last night, mostly pre-draft analyses and post-draft about his disappointment. I described him as Mayfield-like, only taller; though I mean that in the way he comes off as arrogant due to his fiery competitive streak.  Unfortunately, the Bills will most likely trade up and take one of the top 4 guys, and use a lot of draft capital to do so.  If EJ can be the guy, it would great if they were able to use the picks on filling remaining holes.

RollBillsRoll, thanks for the post! I think this could be a "win-win" situation for the Bills. If McCarron does very well for the Bills this season and Beane/McDermott still want to go ahead and play the rookie QB in his second year, I'm sure the Bills could trade McCarron and gain a high draft pick(s) for him. If McCarron does well and Beane/McDermott want to keep him as the franchise QB, then that's a win as well.

I'm pretty sure I can confidently say EJ is done as a QB in this league.

Thanks! My only trip to the Great White North...several years ago I was the Athletic Trainer at a Division III school in Montgomery, al. Our first football game was on the road against Ithaca College. All I heard during fall camp was how we were going to go up there and show those Northern boys how we play ball in the South. We flew into Syracuse (I think), bused over to Ithaca's stadium, and proceeded to get drilled by 3 touchdowns...I'm pretty sure our players realized that folks play good ball in other places besides the South ;)

Was it surprising to see that upstate New York has woods and farms?

I was stationed down south in the USAF and knew a lot of 'Bama Boys.

They thought all of NY was concrete.

Thanks for your insight about the Bill's new QB.  We all want him to succeed.

Maybe you can watch a few Bill's game and cheer with us for some wins!

Couple of quotes from hometown sources...not sure if it made national media, so I apologize if it is common knowledge...

2015, Dalton breaks his thumb, AJ comes off the bench and wins 2 of the final 3 regular season games (In his three regular-season starts, McCarron completed 54-of-83 passes for 552 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions)

Round 1 of the playoffs he finds himself down to the Steelers...In the playoffs, McCarron rallied Cincinnati from a 15-0 deficit to a 16-15 lead over Pittsburgh with three straight scoring drives in the fourth quarter. McCarron's 25-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver A.J. Green gave Cincinnati its one-point lead with 1:50 left to play and sent Bengals fans, starved for postseason success, into a frenzy.

He got a lot of attention during the offseason ""I'm a confident player whenever I step inside the white lines," McCarron said. "I never have lacked confidence in myself. I knew I could play in this league. I know I can be a starter in this league. I'm backup right now. God has a plan. Everything happens for a reason. I keep saying it because I truly believe it. Everything's going to work out. I know the NFL stands for Not For Long. It's a blessing to be able to be a part of this league..."

This past year, Dalton struggled mightily, leading many to call for a changing of the guard at QB. This would have been a perfect time for AJ to toot his horn or throw Dalton under the bus...instead...“He’s our quarterback…Do you think he wants to have tipped balls that turned into interceptions? Has he worked his whole life for that? … I wish people in this city would back him and go with it. He’s our quarterback, stop making it into something else. Ride with him, trust the team, trust the process and trust what we’re trying to do and be a fan of who’s playing,” McCarron said.

This Season, a botched trade where the Browns offered a 2nd and 3rd round pick was denied because paperwork got turned in a few minutes past the deadline. AJ's response:

"My agent thought it was a done deal, "McCarron said. "All I know is what I was told and paperwork got turned in a little too late and that's why I didn't go to them."

Despite the fact that McCarron will miss out on what likely would have been a chance to become the Browns' starting quarterback, he said he's not bitter about how everything played out

"I'm not angry. I'm not upset," McCarron said, via the team's official site. "It feels good to be wanted. Today I'm going to thank Mr. Brown personally. I admire that he was going to give me an opportunity to go start and play somewhere. I really appreciate that of him. He's been an unbelievable owner in my experience here."

And Coach Marvin Brown's response: "AJ is a very valuable member of this team and I told him that yesterday (after) everything," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said in a news conference Wednesday. "Frankly, I was relieved, so I don't have to go through those gymnastics of the next step. He's a great kid. He's a true team player. He's a leader. He's a leader on this football team, and that's why we felt like he's such a valuable asset and the man upstairs was very clear about it, and so forth, of how we felt about him. So that's the key."

Wow. *Slowclap*

That was a good one, I actually laughed hard.

(Not even being sarcastic, that was good!!)

In regards to his altercation, he seems to show remorse and actually realize the mistake.

I had a drunken run-in with the law in college myself (like 12-14 years ago)

I was hammered on the front porch at a frat party, got into an altercation with another guy, cops showed up, him and I took off running.

Got sacked by a cop.

Arrested, ticket, court.

Got community service and a no permanent mark on my record thanks to a lenient judge.

I'm now a father, and a medical professional (physical therapist).

I don't know everything about Baker, but he doesn't seem like a Johnny football, he seems more like a young adult who made a dumb@ss mistake, and wants to prove to everybody that's all it was, a mistake, not a pattern of behavior that won't change.

Every single person on here has done something they most likely are not proud of.

Mistakes happen.

People need to stop throwing stones when they live in a glass house.

Im not throwing stones. I don’t think these things can be over or understated. They are just facts.

The reason it is pertinent here is because an entertainment business  is potentially giving millions and millions of dollars to this individual who has shown poor judgement very recently. Poor judgement off the field, especially if recurring, doesn’t bode well for the success in the pro sports business.

The money, power and acclaim that comes with graduating into the limelight doesn’t have the same sort of acceleration to maturitation that having to earn a living does. Imo

It was beautiful up there! It is hilarious that you mention the concrete. We had dinner with some of Ithaca's staff before the game. I made the comment that some of our players were truly wondering where all the skyscrapers were and how far we were from brooklyn! He laughed and said "don't feel bad, a couple of our guys were convinced that ya'll would show up barefooted and wearing overalls!

What a great country we live in!
