Bills Sign Ivory

Recommended Posts

If we were getting the Chris Ivory who was with the Jets, I'd be delighted. He was always one of my favorite non-Bills.  Hard runner, great effort.  Reminded me of Fred Jackson.

His production fell sharply after he left the Jets.  Not sure if it was a scheme problem, a personnel problem, or something else.

Let's hope he has a lot left in the tank.

And still his numbers last year were better than Tolbert.  Look, let's not kid ourselves, this isn't the best signing of all time, but it is an upgrade at the position.  It's an upgrade and he'll be gone in 2 years, so it's all good and I'll take it.

McCoy for Kiko was a win but that one (at least how it has been conveyed) kind of fell in his lap. Sheppard for Hughes was definitely a win but it's quite overshadowed by the Sammy deal. Whaley wasn't bad at trades, (he was decent) but Beane (and McD) so far has shown a great ability with them.

Agreed.

If you throw a hundred darts blindly at a wall, a couple are bound to stick.

Most will just ricochet off lightly and fall to the floor, harmlessly forgotten.

Some are also bound to ping off high speed and stab you in the foot.

That's how I remember Whaley.

A couple of hits (shady, Hughes), a couple of flops (like Sammy), and a bunch of forgettable moves.

I never said Whaley didn't have problems...

i just responded because you said it's nice to finally make good trades which the Bills have done the last few years

I see a difference between occasional good trades and using trades to systematically change the team for the better. Beane has shown that he can do that (so far, and I will admit it is a small sample size so far). It will be interesting to see how this continues in the future.

I like Beane and am excited to see his future here. A good GM is huge and this seems like perhaps the first real good one we've had in quite a while.

People are blind when it comes to McBeane.  We made the playoffs with the worst team we had statically since Chan Gailey was here. Now they have earned praise for being mediocre.  Btw we lost big time on that Darby deal and the Benjamin deal and the Dareus deal.

There paying him like a #2 . Gillislee btw his decision came before he couldn't do anything in New England.  He was great for us way better then anyone we had last yr. Please don't bring up age unless your saying Gillislee wasn't old enough but McBeane loves Grandpa backs.

You shouldn't compare Darby in Philly with Darby who would be leaving Buffalo as a FA.  Darby saw how Gilmore cashed in and that looked good to him.  McBeane got some value for Darby instead of another year of service plus nothing in the future.  It turned out the value he got wasn't that good, but Matthews had been great in Philly and was injured a lot here so it's hard to criticize that trade.

Benjamin was playing hurt last year.  He's going to be much better this year.  Check back in a year or two and see if you still don't think he was worth the cost.

Dareus was another addition by subtraction.  He was a cancer in the locker room and would have been cut for lack of production.  McBeane made the best possible deal.

Yeldon is a better player at this stage and Grant out of the backfield as a receiver is much better.  No surprise his role was diminished in Jax with Fournette as the lead back.  He won't be asked to be the bell cow like he was with the NYJ is 2015.  Your heartburn seems a little much at this juncture in the offseason.

Better bk at this stage so we should pay other teams trash 3.5 mil guranteed.  We can find much better for cheaper.  Obviously McBeane has no clue what offensive talent looks like.

I mean these are the guys that made Tolbert a #2 RB  . He's never been a #2 in his whole career 12yrs . He's a FB/ Short yardage bk. These types of decisions do not shine a bright light on these guys.

I think this is exactly the right way to look at it.

Oh, and you do?  Remind us, what team have you scouted for that's produced multiple Offensive Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year awards?

Barnwell No Likey!  Regardless, he's a good 2nd option who doesn't factor into the comp pick formula for 2019.

Note that Ivory's low YPC could have something to do with the fact that he faced 8 or more in the box almost 51% of the time--3rd highest for any RB in the NFL.

What I like about this:

  • He is a good backup to McCoy and a good complimentary RB too.
  • Hopefully means less or no Tolbert.  I would like Tolbert in short yardage/FB type use, but his over use by RICO was maddening.
  • His production issues in JAX I feel is more about the bad OL and crap QB where they stack the box then him as a runner.

What I dont like about this:

  • This is a very very good draft for RB's.  I think Bills could have found a real gem in the 3rd or 4th rounds this year, someone who can potentially taker over for McCoy in a year or two.  I would have liked to have seen us grab someone who can potentially have the impact that Alvin, Hunt, etc had early on.  I like the Ivory signing, but I think it might mean we wont grab one of these great values of deep RB class that could hit big for us in the near future.
  • He has durability issues, so again, I think I would have been more excited getting a young talented back in the draft.
  • He has had a hard time holding on to the ball as he fumbles too much.
