Honestly going to have the boxes year round, I added the regional sports networks. $14 a month, pick up a ton of baseball. Being a degenerate gambler its worth it to me

How do you get MLB baseball with sports package without the MLB package???

For the first time since NFL Sunday Ticket's conception....last year i did not renew and watched other ways that some posters have been kind enough to provide.

I was just as happy.

That is some damn fine work!

How did you find reliable streams??  I would find them to bufffer terribly and  y end of year most were shutdown,   I pay for Sirius and NFL ST so I can listen to Bills radio feed while watching the game

You should really call every year. They will give big discounts to just extend your contract for 1 year. I go year to year and have received discounts to offset the Ticket last 5 years

Obviously you are correct. I just HATE that whole haggling thing. I’ll drive my car forever to avoid the shopping process for a new one. My wife is the car shopper in the family. She’s good at it! Did it just last month with our son.

On a related note,  many years ago we were leaving a gym somewhere on a Saturday morning after the kids basketball games. On the way home, Mrs Augie’s cell goes off. We all have to shut up while she holds some deal together, which is what she does. When she clicks off the phone she turns to our boys and says THAT is MY sport!

All very true, but just as she will walk out a car dealership, she would tell DTV to drop dead.....then I’m the one who gets screwed! So, of course, that’s NOT an option.

I am not shocked at all. Thanks to AT&T and NFL greed they are increasing the prices. They

of viewers this past season with all the protesting that went on and now they need to recoup some of that money.

Recouping losses is now "greed"?

Well I’m on a year to year contract with Direct TV it’s up sept 1st. So this last year I called to try and get my discount. They would not budge and they pissed me off. I told the lady that I’ve been a customer for 15 years and I want NFL sunday ticket for free like a new person walking off the street. She said it ain’t going to happen. I told her why do you want to do this dance. Your going to give it to me one way or another. So I told her I have many other choices for my TV sevice and a standing offer with my local cable company. So she said sorry I can’t help you. She was offering $10.00 a month off sunday ticket. So I said ok you leave no choice cancel my Direct TV. I told her she was being ridiculous and that this was no way to treat a loyal customer. So I did it, I canceled my service. So 3 hours go by and I get a call from Dircet TV there retention specialist. I told her what happen and she said they want to keep me as a customer. So she said if I sign back up for one year

she will give me NFL Sunday ticket, the red zone and the sunday ticket steaming for free and all the movie chanel’s for free for 3 months. She also gave me some other discounts. So I went ahead and signed back up. each Sunday I hook up 5 HD TV’s for my NFL sunday watchathon every week. So you have to be willing to call there bluff. So will see what happens this year.

They lost a lot of viewers this past season with all the protesting that went on and now they need to recoup some of that money.

SI: NFL Ratings down 10% in 2017

USA Today: Daytona 500 ratings down by 23%

Tell me more about how lower ratings are due to anthem protests and not an accurate representation of the rising popularity of cord cutting.

And this is what the Boycott that was called causes. When contract are already signed snd checks already cut to the NFL and ratings and advertising revenue drop for the person carrying the product. Prices increase.

Sporting News: NBC Olympics ratings down 7%, streaming way up

Ratings drop is an across the board TV trend, but in sports especially, and is not nearly entirely due to protests. See the precipitous drop in NASCAR ratings above. I guess that's due to the good ol boys protesting right?

And finally, yes, I know, "fake news CNN" as our president calls it, but based on Nielsen data from this past fall:

NBC is down 4%, CBS is down 6%, ABC is down 11%, and Fox's prime time viewership dropped 20% through the first month of the new TV season

I just called them 2 or 3 weeks ago when my bill hit $210 last month.  I called DTV / ATT, talked to a low level agent asking why the jump (even though I knew my 6 months of free stuff was up), and after 10 minutes I said sorry not good enough I want to talk to a CRA, 30 minutes later ...  My current bills is $140.

If you have a Genie... ask them if you are paying for HD channels.  that alone was $7 per month that I did not have to pay for.

You drop a package and your long term NFL ticket customer advantage could go down the drain .

Very curious if you could explain further about the $7/month thing. I have a Genie with 2 additional TVs so I am paying $21 a month ($7 per receiver) and my initial contract with them expired this past May so I have no obligation to them.

I've been meaning to give them a call since my bill just bumped up about $9 a month without any credits expiring, although that reckoning is coming soon also. I think I am on the Xtra package because that used to be the lowest tier I could get MSG on to watch the Sabres, but not only is MSG on a lower tier now, but I barely ever watch the Sabres so I think I'm clear to drop at least one tier, if not two. Thanks!

Did you drop service completely or just get a lower package?

Did you say cancel my NFL Ticket and in Sept change your mind? This one can bite you on reaquiring a discount.

I have every HBO, Statz, Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel and a sports package.  I have all the TNTs, History and Discovery channels.

My bill is under $150 because I call and request (demand) every discount available.

Is that being cheap or prudent?

One time I scheduled my disconnect in a week to give them a chance to give me some incentive to stay....next morning I woke up and no DTV!!!   I called and bitched and they gave me free Sunday ticket, free HBO and 30 off a month for a year!!!  I'm at "Select" now, sometimes move up to get ESPN...I get 60 off a month for six months, half price Showtime and usually free or almost free ST.  My bill is like $70 bucks.

You are not cheap, or prudent...you are my hero!

How many games do you honestly want to sit there and watch that you don’t get anyway on TV?

13 games each weekend are so dreadful I wouldn’t watch if paid $100 to stay awake and pretend to care

Well, we're football fans here so we like to watch......football. I watch Bills, redzone channel and any game that has a close finish

Directv doesn't have a clue of what they're doing lately. A few months back I called and complained because I was supposed to have the Sunday ticket max at half price. The deal they gave me was $30 per month for 6 months for the Sunday ticket. After 3 months, they started charging me full price for the ticket. I had to call multiple times because whoever I was speaking with in whatever country somehow couldn't grasp the concept that I was only supposed to be getting charged $30 a month for 6 months. I was about to lose my (expletive) and they connected me to someone who spoke proper English here in the states. He gave me some deal where my bill would be $50 a month (plus the 30 for the ticket) for a total of 80 a month until the ticket was paid off. Now that the ticket is paid off for the year, my bill for some reason is $40 (not complaining) but I have no clue what is happening with directv. Their customer service is beyond terrible since they partnered with AT&T. Sadly I won't switch providers because I love the Sunday ticket too much.

agree since they are part of ATT the customer service sucks not sure what happened to the call centers that they used to have for retention those folks were fun to talk to.  These ATT reps are clueless half the time and dont give away the farm like the reps in Colorado Springs did.   Oh well I am with you I will stay as long as they have ST since I have found streaming solutions to outright SUCK.   I want to watch the game as live as possible not seeing pauses and glitches along the way and I have 1G pipe.

Dale Jr. isn't racing anymore. That's a major chunk of "bandwagon" type NASCAR fans that aren't watching anymore. It's like golf without Tiger. Or what the ratings drop will look like in New England markets when Tom and Bill are gone.

Have to wonder if the traditional "I'm going to cancel my DTV unless I get a discount on the Ticket" hurts things as well...I would guess that plays a bigger role than protests.
