trading T. Taylor

Recommended Posts

We have TT under contract for one more year.   His cost is somewhere around $18 million.  There are many FA QB's available in 2018.  Most Bills fans think the TT days are over and we will be moving on in some fashion.

What could we get in a trade for TT?    My guess is a 3rd round pick in 2019.

First they have to pay him a 6 million dollar roster bonus then trade him.  Not happening.

I’d imagine they will not pick up that bonus voiding the final year of his deal.

No way someone trades us anything especially since everyone knows we will probably let him walk.

I thought this was an option year and the Bills could let him walk after this season

Am I wrong?

No option, just a much reduced salary from where the previous contract had him.

WRT trading him, I always thought we could get a 3rd for him. However, it looks like there will be a good number of "middle-road" QBs available in free agency this year. That will drive his value down.

No option. They will need either cut him or trade him.

If TT has a good game Sunday and Bills get the W, I’d say he stays for 2018, stand pat and draft the best prospect Qb that falls and let him compete with Nate for back up..kick the can down the road kinda thing..imo

I'm not sure about that.  I though the roster bonus was paid IF he makes the roster.  Wikpedia says:

Quote

A roster bonus is a feature that may be included in a professional sports player contract.

A roster bonus is conditional, unlike a signing bonus. The latter is received upon the initial signing of the contract and is generally the player's regardless of future events. The roster bonus, however, is paid only if a player is still on the active roster of the team at a specific future date. This feature is mostly used in North America in National Football League contracts. Most NFL roster bonuses have trigger dates of either March 1 or June 1 of a specific future year. If the player is on the team's roster as of that date, the entire amount of the bonus must be paid, even if he is released the next day.

The roster bonus has a very specific effect on a team's "salary cap," the amount of its payroll that counts toward the money permitted by league agreement. The fact that it postpones much of the salary cap impact of a new player is one of the reasons it has become a popular contract feature, especially in the contract of highly compensated star players, but also as a way of recognizing and incentivizing mid- and lower-salaried players as well.

No they have a 2 or 3 day window when new league yr starts to trade him before that bonus is due. Not clear if they have to end of 2nd league yr date or end of 3rd league yr date.

If Bills think they are getting a high return they could pay the 6 mill bonus and then trade him later as he would be more tradable with a 12 mill salary instead of other team on hook for 18 mill.

EX: I would pay 6 mill cap space for a 2nd round pick. Maybe even for a 3rd round pick if high enough.

As elated as i am to be back in the playoffs, and as I'm happy to give Tyrod credit in helping us to get there, I really feel it's time to part ways with #5.  I appreciate all he's done here, but we know what we get with him, and it simply isn't enough at the quarterback position.  Whether it's finding our guy via the draft  (cough, Mayfield, cough), or taking a chance in free agency, this is the year to start fresh at QB.  Unless Tyrod morphs into some All-World qb, and takes, no excuse me, LEADS us to the AFC Championship or the Super Bowl, then I don't see them paying him that roster bonus.  Even a win in Jacksonville on Sunday I don't see being enough to bring him back next year.

Anything less than a 3rd round pick and they should just keep him for 2018.

I don't think we will get more than a 5th rd pick in my opinion. Why would we want to keep a QB that the rest of the NFL values at a 5th rd pick. My next question would be does 2,799 and 14 TD's even justify a 5th rd pick.

I would rather just relese him and have that extra 10 mil to spend in FA. I'm still pissed we are taking a cap hit on his ass, we should've signed him to 1 year deals.
