Playing not to win but not to lose doesn't cut it, because the point is this coaching staff

needs to be reminded a NFL game is 60 minutes. This is not the first time this year they

tried to sit on the lead. The so called prevent D didn't prevent anything.

And whose idea was it to have a LB trying to catch a on side kick. You mean no one thinks

a WR or TE can catch the ball better than Preston Brown. This game was a lot closer

than it had to be.

our prevent D produced a sack, a punt and an interception in the last half of the 4th qtr. Limited them to a FG on a critical drive that all but exhausted the clock. Not too bad.

and sit on the lead the 2nd half. Today it almost bit the Bills in the rear end with Preston Brown fielding a on side kick.

Even our TEs and WRs can catch the ball better than a LB.And our prevent D near the end did not prevent anything.

Game was a closer than it had to be.

Why was Preston Brown even on that Kick off and the first one to the ball.  He made the blunder of touching the ball before it crossed the 10 yards.  Way too aggressive play.  The ST coach should take the blame for putting him in that position

I love these threads where after a win we complain because we didn't win by enough.

It's not that.

Until they can prove they won't get their asses handed to them by better teams, it's okay to piss and moan.

If they can do this against the Cheatriots, I'd be happy.  But they can't, and it's killing any chance to be the best they can be.

Haha no that's not the only pass.  He's clearly not comfortable passing the ball into tight coverage.  If he was comfortable, he'd pass to Benjamin more.  He's 6'5"...all you have to do is throw it up to him like Peterman did in the Indy game.  He doesn't show any aggression when passing.  He seemed to hesitant to throw an open screen pass today and decided to take a sack today instead.  He just doesn't show much confidence to throw the ball down the field.  It's not like all of these play calls have guys doing routes within two yards...he just decides to dump down to the open running back instead of taking a chance down the field.  He did a better job today but he hasn't been aggressive all year.  You can blame Dennison all you want but he does call passing plays where receivers go down the field.  He doesn't have a lot of INTs because he doesn't attempt to throw into tight windows and be aggressive.

Tyrod certainly doesn't make one confident in throwing the ball in all situations.

This is exactly why the Benjamin and Watkins trades are so ill conceived.

He also doesn't go downfield, because, who the !@#$ do you throw to downfield with any sense of reliability on this team? They have no deep threats, and they don't have guys running deep routes a lot of the time.

Great first half and then again a terrible second half.  Dennison and McDermott seem clueless after halftime and refused to continue with what's working and what is a lopsided game turn it into a nail biter.

You may not have noticed, but Tyrod stopped looking down field & the line stopped blocking for McCoy. In fact, I'm pretty sure the line decided they hated McCoy and wanted him to die considering how they let half the defense into the backfield the second the ball was snapped.

Oh, and then there were the stupid penalties. Those affect things too ya know. Tyrod has never been good at 3rd & long.

...D&C's Maiorana summed it up quite nicely..............

"Rick Dennison had quite an up and down day. His play-calling was diverse in the first half and the Bills put together TD drives of 81, 75 and 80 yards. And then in the second half, he reverted to the same stale play-calling we’ve seen for years. The offense went numb, and the Bills were fortunate to hang on thanks to some takeaways from the defense. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier dialed up a few more blitzes which hampered the Dolphins, and the Bills forced Cutler into some mistakes. The stupid Adolphus Washington penalty will need to be addressed because that could have really been costly. Sean McDermott again had some timeout issues, but all in all, he had the Bills ready to play in a game they had to win."

The 14 pass calls needs to be put in context.  They were often at the wrong times or when that was the only call.  The second half was typical of the Bills all season.  If Cutler doesn't implode throwing interceptions and dropping the ball, who knows what happens.  This is the fourth win that could have been a loss thanks to their second half playcalling (Atlanta, TB & Indy).

The "context" is a huge drop by Zay, a bad miss by Tyrod and a general failure to execute. There was 1 run, run, short pass series that went 3 and out. That was conservative.... but we had 9 1st downs in the 2nd half... we ran on 5 and passed on 4... that hardly screams conservative offense.  I honestly think people are letting their preconceptions based on other games this season where the offense has gone into their shell 2nd half affect their perception of yesterday.  I honestly think Rick Dennison called a nice game yesterday, there were some wrinkles there that worked well, they utilised Brandon Tate nicely not just on the play where they actually threw to him but on a couple of others where his pre-snap shift created some misdirection.  Did he call every play perfectly?  No... but that is an unreasonable standard to hold him to.  There were plays called that should have been touchdowns yesterday in that 2nd half.... and the players on the field didn't make the plays.

Are you sure you watched the game?

The second half - especially the 3rd quarter they ran the ball 7 times - passed the ball 9 times and had 1 TT scramble on a 10th drop back. They even went for it on 4th down once and were set for a 2nd attempt except for a false start.  Not really conservative- the difference is the players both TT and the Receivers did not make plays in the second half.

The 4th quarter they got a bit more conservative, but they were up by multiple scores and were running clock.  They ran 6 times and had 3 pass and 1 scramble on a 4th passing attempt.  This included a 4 minute drive to really run clock.

So in the conservative 2nd half where they were up by 3 scores - the team ran 13 times, threw 12 times, and had 2 scrambles on additional drop backs.  Seems pretty balanced to me.  They also went for it on 4th down and were going to try and put the game away with a 4th and 1 on the goal line.

The results seem conservative because of a lack of execution, but the team was balanced and they made plays.  The running died in the second half with the Dolphins crowding the line and the passing being ineffective - even with throws on early downs.

Why put into context - they continued to throw the ball - including on first and second downs throughout the second half - the difference - they did not make the plays - the execution dried up in the second half.  There were guys open that TT missed, their were great passes that were dropped, there were penalties, there was a huge sack on a first down screen pass, etc.  the second half was about execution.  The play calling and the going for the jugular were there with the 4th down attempts and going for the TD on 4th and goal.

In fact although they only scored 3 points - they passed up on multiple long field goals because of where the score was and tried to get a TD rather than settle for the field goal.  There are times to complain about conservative calls - this was not one - they were actually over aggressive at times - this is one to lay blame right on the players and execution.

"predictable"

1st half...they mixed it up to great success.

2nd half....Miami D knew what was coming.

Miami definitely keyed in on the outside zone runs more in the 2nd half.  Beyond that I don't think they had any better a handle on what we were doing.  We just did it worse.  Execution.
