the first grunge song?

Laurel Canyon. Woodstock.  Monterey.  Farm Aid. Jammed with Charles Manson.  Got stoned with Willie Nelson. Married a sexy Mermaid. Toured with Social Distortion, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Booker T, Blues Traveler, Pearl Jam

Neil is a Canadian Forest Gump

Love me some grunge but did you know Neil was in a band with Buffalo's own Rick James in the mid 60's? Me neither, till I saw the documentary on RJ now running on Showtime.....

At the point of Young’s arrival, they were fronted by the eccentric Ricky James Matthews, who would, of course, go on to have an iconic career under the moniker of Rick James. Matthews ended up in Canada after going AWOL in a desperate bid to avoid joining up with the US Navy. As a teenager, he built up a string of convictions for various low-level crimes that put him on authorities’ radar. After continuously missing his twice-monthly reserve sessions, James landed himself in a spot of bother after being ordered to serve in Vietnam. Rather than do that, he fled to Toronto and ended up fronting The Mynah Birds, but not even his bandmates knew about his backstory.

Neil Young’s biographer, Jimmy McDonough, vividly described the band’s image in his book Shakey, “The Mynah Birds—in black leather jackets, yellow turtlenecks, and boots—had quite a surreal scene going. The band was financed by John Craig Eaton of the Eaton’s department-store dynasty. Legend has it he poured money into the band, establishing a bottomless account for the band’s equipment needs.”

There was a brief time in 1966 when Young and James were flatmates in Toronto. This time remains an experience that is foggy to the singer-songwriter all these decades later. Speaking about that hedonistic filled time to Howard Stern, Young recalled, “We did some wild things. It’s all very hazy to me now. I’m glad I made it through that stage. It got a little dicey. There were some drugs going on. I remember singing one song for about a day and a half.”

Respectfully disagree.  I didn't like the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake one but the Maroon 5 one a few years back was my least favorite I recall.

To be fair though I didn't watch last years.  Well I didn't watch the game either for that matter.  I'm pretty much at the point of my life unless its the Bills playing or a few other teams I'm interested in I can care less 😂

OMG WE need to talk. Did you see that toilet paper roll size spleef that guy was waving around? oh man well this is a long story copying from a different boards thread

on my first trip to NYC we visited this warehouse type place filled floor to ceiling with STUFF..you name it this guy had it. We're cruising the aisles and I see this Rasta knit beanie hat with dreds, brand new still had tags. I said how much is this? The guy says 5 bucks I say SOLD and that was my souvenir from NYC that trip.

Now Im hesitant to wear it due to being called some vulgar racial miappropriation thing instead of just Halloween. In a small house party Yes Id roll a toilet paper sized joint and ham it up LOL but for out in public? meh not so much. what do you think?

SO the answers I received back were mixed, what do y'all think?

My GF and I were Hippies at a Halloween party this past week.  Our costumes were hilarious!  I said two things I will do next time- roll a big cigar in lots of rolling papers- Cheech and Chong prop.  And she should have a name tag saying Mississippi.  Why you ask?  The punchline to my favorite clean joke- What do you call a wife of a hippie?

Cultural misappropriation.  The world needs to watch more South Park.  In the 1990s I went to this Halloween party far away, hosted by a couple I met thru a friend, but I didn't know anyone else there.  Big, rocking, Halloween  90s party.  I am a chef, what do do you think I went as?  I put my chef uniform on, wrote chef on my apron, and put a big Chef head on- which I wore the first hour.  Everyone was trying to figure who I was lol.   PC police might chastise me today

NYC has some interesting warehouses

Halloween is a big deal at our house. Here shortly I'll post a link to a show they are attending 10/31 in Los Angeles

Very cool.  Sounds like my kind of place.  I love thrifting, especially books, records, art

NYC has so many cool districts.  That’s great you got to experience that
