Gord Downie diagnosed with terminal brain cancer

Here's what the band posted on its website Tuesday:

Hello friends.

We have some very tough news to share with you today, and we wish it wasn’t so. A few months ago, in December, Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Since then, obviously, he’s endured a lot of difficult times, and he has been fighting hard. In privacy along with his family, and through all of this, we’ve been standing by him. So after 30-some years together as The Tragically Hip, thousands of shows, and hundreds of tours…We’ve decided to do another one. This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us. What we in The Hip receive, each time we play together, is a connection; with each other; with music and it’s magic; and during the shows, a special connection with all of you, our incredible fans. So, we’re going to dig deep, and try to make this our best tour yet. We hope you can come out and join us this summer – details and dates will be coming this week. And we sincerely thank all of you, for your continued love and support, Paul, GordD, Johnny, Rob, GordS

Sad sad news, I have seen The Hip more times than I can count and they never disappoint. This will be a must see show...

Saw the boys on Youngs road near ECC North back in the very early 90's. The band had just released Road Apples cd. One of my favorite bands have all their stuff. Terrible news. We're losing just people in music. Please stop!

Was so sad to hear this news. Its hitting a lot of us Canadians hard.

"Ahead by a century" is one of my all time favorite songs.

At the bar, after our softball game yesterday, we played about a dozen straight Hip songs and that was one of them...

Hello Fellow Hip Fans,

Obviously, this is terrible news for Gordon and the band. Glad to see they are still doing a tour. I am looking at getting tickets to a show as this may be the last tour.

Has anyone looked into getting tickets? In the email they sent out they mentioned their will be a pre-sale on May30th and they will email details. I haven't received any emails yet and am getting worried.

Anyone have any insight?

I was contacted by some one in the music/radio business recently. Rumors of the Hip playing at the Ralph. No date mentioned

If true, probably towards the end of August when there's no home pre-season games.

I dont think there will be any American dates guys.

The band said this will only be a Canadian tour

Throw enough money at them, and they may reconsider making a quick stop across the border.

BUFFALO IS CANADA!!!

There is no doubt about that!

Under these circumstances, yes.

Got it - it would be a ton of people coming over the Peace Bridge. If I were a big fan, and I always did intend to delve into them, I would make sure to see as many as possible.
