#2 QB next year

draft a guy if you want, but assuming Roman is still here, I'd wager we'd make a play for Kaepernick

and to me, he fits the Bill(s) ... veteran who can back up and come in if Tyrod gets dinged (which he is scramble away from)

I know he's been bad lately, but Roman did navigate a Kaepernick-led team to the dance and NFC title games ...

I think you're underestimating Kaep's impact here. He'll expect to become a starter. Some other team is going to bring him in as a starter.

I've not caught much of him this year but a few trusted people that have are raving about his improvement. The leap from sophomore to junior was really impressive. Dying to get stuck in to his senior games.

I'll always vouch for Dak Prescott as a human being. He is an outstanding guy and Bills fans would adore him.

Make sure you watch Dak's Arkansas game.

It'll make you his biggest fan--if you aren't already lol

Here are my thoughts. RGIII will be released by the Redskins this off season. The has alot of the same skills as Taylor does so we could run the same offense as we do with Taylor and I think we could get him on the cheap. I'd like the Bills to give him a look. I doubt anyone is going to give him a serious look as a starting QB so he may be willing to sign on as a back-up. Just my 2 cents.

yes, you are probably right

I was thinking of the possible (abeit small-ish) "wow the Bills are going for it" factor, and I also think EJ will be as likely to be working at Dicks as he would playing for the Bills next fall

still hoping maybe Kaep's not so in demand

his gun and legs would hold up in the Ralph winds if we needed them

I fully expect the Cowboys to trade a 7th round pick for JFF and give a generous offer to RG3. Either guy could be a cash cow for their franchise if they can take over for Romo when the time is right and after the disaster at backup QB they experienced this year it's going to be something Jerrah is going to address in a big way.

If the 49ers hire Chip, I don't think Kaep is going anywhere as they would bring Chip in try and fix Kaep. (Just saw you just said the same thing).

I do think a QB who plays a similar style to Taylor is the way to go, Taylor is going to get hurt, if we tailor our offense to a mobile QB, bringing in a statue like Mallet to back him up seems an odd move.

This is cool stuff. I could see Kaep or RGIII in Buffalo, but I wonder how interested Whaley is at muddying the waters about whose team it is by bringing in "name" vets.

Good point Astro.. I think bringing in Kaep or RGIII would impeded TT's growth as a team leader -- which is really important. I love how TT got in Jordan Mills' face a bit in the 4th quarter and prevented a personal foul on a retaliation...grabbed him by the face mask....TT is self motivated enough that he doesn't need competition -- he is playing for a big contract next year. Don't cloud this by bringing in a 1A....

He's toast & has been quite a while according to Chris Cooley the old TE from Washington.

Kaepernick or RG3 would not be happy here being the backups to Taylor.

Also, I think some of you are overrating the Roman Kaep connection. They weren't exactly lighting it up their last year in SF.

I've heard Cooley say that, but I think he is referring more to the Redskin situation and their current offense. The Skins could not afford to play him this year because if he went in and got hurt, they would be on the Hook for $16 million on the cap next year. That is a big a reason as any that he was not active this year. A change of teams may be just what he needs.

Not sure RG or Kap make sense in Buffalo... I think we draft someone in a later round and let them develop. Give EJ another shot, we need a 'draw the defense offsides specialist' to go along with our kicking specialist, analytics specialist, etc!!!

It's pretty safe to assume the Taylor will be back as the Bills starting QB next season; I for one hope that EJ isn't our back-up going into the season. I would like the Bills to bring in someone who would represent a legitimate challenge to Taylor. Although he did a decent job this year, probably the best QB year we've had since Bledsoe, I'm not confident he is a top 10 QB.

My question is this, how do the Bills address the #2 QB next year:

Draft a QB? How high?

Sign a veteran back-up?

Go after a big name (maybe past his prime veteran like Drew Brees)?

I think they draft a guy and let him and EJ go at it for the number 2 this year. Tyrod is going to get hurt next year so assuming we arent as hurt as we have been. EJ will do fine in stand in duty. You have to remember, with the CBA backups arent what they used to be. And also back when i was a kid. Most backups seemed to be past their prime starters. That seems to be a thing of the past. It isnt what it once was

I think Taylor has been gradually establishing himself as a leader. Why bring in someone to directly challenge him?

Doesn't that just cause unneeded drama? He won the competition this year, is mastering the offense and the rest of the team is behind him.

Draft a young guy to develop, not challenge for the starting spot. They grabbed Dysert and will probably draft someone like Dak Prescott to groom. Not that that's who I would pick, but at see them doing it.

Prescott would almost make the most sense in terms of continuity in regards to the way we play our QB

I think I'm the only one who's perfectly ok with EJ as our backup. It's slim pickings for a better backup, EJ has experience, is still developing, a good team player, and will be in year two of Roman's complicated system. If we replace EJ, I'd hope we replace him with someone else who has had experience with the system.

Me and you Mr D.

I've read here that EJ and Tyrod are equally good as long as they throw less than 20 passes. So why don't we trade Tyrod , who would likely net us more in a trade, and keep EJ on the roster while planning to have him throw less than 20 passes per game. Win win situation all around.

I think EJ was fine considering all things. 2 starts with a mix matched offense averaging about 275yds 2tds and 2 ints a game. Thats a far cry from the ultra boring x<175 yrd maybe 1 td a game performances. He is like you said still learning and developing, he is a consummate teammate. Why not one more go

If Taylor plays like a he did this year or better there won't be any drama lol

I would need to see better. I guess people liked the running. But there were a lot of plays left out there this year. He HAS to get better

I'd like to go into training camp with: Tyrod, EJ, Connor Cook & Kaepernick. Keep the best 3 of the 4.

So you propose using a 1st on a QB with question marks and signing Kaep to at least $5M (or you won't get him)? That just isn't realistic. You are looking at Tyrod as #1, EJ or another vet (maybe Chase Daniel or Matt Moore), and a young guy (a mid round pick probably).
