Jack Eichel brings hope, excitement in first NHL game with Sabres

BUFFALO — It was the sparkle on an otherwise gloomy evening, a sliver of hope for the long-suffering fans in these parts.

And probably the truest measure of that fine moment, Jack Eichel’s first NHL goal, was that his coach thought initially the kid had messed up.

“I thought he’d waited too long,” said Buffalo head coach Dan Bylsma. “The goalie (Craig Anderson) did have time to get across the net and get set.

“But then. . .bar down.”

Man, that place sounded loud last night. Really unfortunate that another new rule intended to eliminate mistakes resulted in sapping all of the Sabres' momentum -- regardless of whether or not it was the right call.

So happy for Eichel he got the first one out of the way quickly.

Absolutely digging the goal song -- really gets the crowd going. It's getting tons of national press as well (in a good way).

The new era has begun! There will be lots of bumps in the road, but they're headed in the right direction.

The crowd went crazy after the song started, it was pretty awesome, and pretty cool to keep it under wraps until the first goal. Lot's of bad white guy dances in the stands during the song though, i know i am flagged for a racist comment, but damn there was some bad ones.

FYI...Jack was born roughly 6 months after DJ Kool's song debuted...

Did Ottawa's coach have to "throw the flag" immediately when he saw offsides or if there wasn't a goal he wouldn't have bothered?

Only if a goal is scored. It would basically result in a faceoff if the coach's were allowed to challenge non scoring plays, so you are correct, they wouldn't have bothered (nor could they anyway)...

It wasn't "thrown" until after the goal was scored. It's a very bad look for the league, imo. Challenge a goal, sure, but not an offside nearly a full minute before the goal.

As I understand it, until the puck crossed back out of the Ottawa zone. So, theoretically, it could be many minutes. Ridiculous.

Correct, as soon as the puck clears the zone the play can no longer be challenged.

Maybe that's why they didn't want to score all game!

That's just a sucky song! I hope they don't score @ home all season! :bag: :bag: We continue to be the laughingstock of The League, good Lord!!, who the hell voted for that!

Are you kidding me??? That was the best song by a mile, every other choice was selected by a bunch of sad weeping vaginas. Sorry if you don't get it Grandpa :)

The Sabres using "Let Me Clear My Throat" as a goal song makes me so happy. Hockey is allowed to be fun.

Yes they did lol, they went completely bonkers. And by the way, the Sabre's players selected that song for voting which makes it even better.
