He had a good game. From the start with this new coaching staff, he has been treated like a dead man walking. It's a real crappy hole to work your way out of. Jmsbills Posted August 21, 2015 Share Posted August 21, 2015 I am happy that we are having a debate about our QB situation. We are in a much better place than the last two years at QB. We can win with all three of theses guys. I like TT and EJ over MC. I would let MC go save on the cap space for MD and keep MS on the practice squad. Living here in South Florida , I listen to some guys love for Ryan Tannehill but here in Miami the fans are not thrilled with him or his new contact $$$. But as an outsider her has shown improvement each year and now has 3 years of starts under his belt - the Dolphins did not give up on him after 14 games. We can afford to keep TT and EJ over the next two years without any cap issues - let them play it out and see who can take it to the next level. He seems to have a differernt spark; and he was slinging it, instead of his old aiming. I am not sure he wins; but I would like to see him with the starters. and despite the adversity i love seeing that after darbys first pick hes the first offensive player running off the bench to congratulate him, hes the guy celebrating a preseason win.... I dont know if EJ will fix a couple of the mechanics/mental things to get to where he needs to be, but its hard not to like the guy. from entering the organization, he has had a rough path, and hes done very well with staying positive and trying to work through the obstacles (his own and those around him) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If the coaching staff feels right now that the race is between Cassell and Taylor, then no he doesn't deserve any time with the first team offense. They probably realize that with only 14 game starts under bad coaching that the guy needs to sit and develop properly is the reason he was working with 2nd & 3rd string. The FO needs to see what TT & Cassel have to offer for the upcoming season. BackInDaDay Posted August 21, 2015 Share Posted August 21, 2015 when Ryan talks about Tyrod's game, he uses the word 'magic'. as frustrated as he may be with EJ's game, does he see a little of that in him? of course 'magic', in this context, is the ability of the QB to make a play when the execution of the designed play has broken down. you don't expect to need 'magic' when game planning, but it's comforting to know that your playmaker is capable of rescuing a play when something was missed at this stage of their careers, Tyrod and EJ won't set their pass their pass protection assignments correctly - at the rate Cassel can - and they won't recognize disguised coverages at the rate Cassel can. but i still believe that Roman is capable of giving all three an offense they can execute - while opening more of his playbook to Taylor and Manuel. so, at this point, it seems to be shaping into a risk/reward decision for the coaches. from their histories and after 2 preseason games, i'd rate them as following: Taylor med-low risk / high reward risks are: possible injury and his inexperience rewards are: shows improvement executing the offense, speed adds another dimension to the offense, and he can extend plays Manuel med risk/ med-high reward risks are: his inexperience and consistency executing the offense rewards are: shows improvement executing the offense, size and strength don't limit him to the pocket, and he can extend plays Cassel low risk / med reward risks are: his physical limitations make him the least capable of extending plays rewards are: his experience and consistency executing the offense from a pragmatic point of view, the depth chart may look like - Cassel, Taylor, Manuel but from a fan's point of view, mine is Taylor, Manuel, Cassel Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And we'll probably have some clues coming from training camp. EJ was getting 2nd string reps all of last week. He may get some 1st string reps in practice this week. And, he'll need to perform well if he wants to start against Pittsburgh. Just speculating of course, but leading the team to two leads late in the game in consecutive weeks is pretty hard to ignore. There are only 3 practice days left in TC. The Bills will begin making their real preparations for the season once they're practicing behind closed doors at RWS. I don't really blame the RBs though. It's tough to do much when you're on the team for just two weeks (Hill) and just two days (Seale). I'm not sure I've ever seen a guy play - even in the pre-season - when he's not had a single practice. I read a quote from Seale that said he hadn't even put on pads since his Jan 17th bowl game. He should be given a fair chance to win the job. I agree. Give the guy a fair opportunity. He's doing all he can to earn that much, and he's the only QB so far with TD passes, so what if it's been with the 3's, let's see what he can do with the 1's now. I won't comment on practice, because I haven't seen any. He still has a couple of those passes were it looks like he's trying to push the ball to the receiver, but he also has some very good throws. I think he has earned the right to start the next game. My impression of last nights game was that it was Ryan vs Pettine in an exhibition of who has the greater defensive mind. Who blitzes that much in a preseason game? I'm so glad McCown choose Cleveland. In his article today Sully reiterates his contention that Manuel is the Bills biggest draft bust. He started EJ in the scrimmage and EJ was the best of the three in the scrimmage. He played well in the game last week. It's the media guys that have buried EJ. That said, I think EJ is #3 still based on the fact he still misses too many. But he's clearly got better. Rex also said tonight right now I think we have three quarterbacks who can play and they haven't decided who will start next week. this is the best post yet of the situation I have read. Look at the crap snaps and piss poor OL protection EJ gets, yet he found a way to win the game. Not anointing him anything here, but I think he does (and the team does as well) deserve the shot to start with & against the ones next game.
