Spiller...if they think he's anything like Sproles or Bush in his prime I gotta laugh. Those guys had great hands, made people miss in space, were durable, and could mix in runs between the tackles if called upon. Spiller is fragile, poor hands, terrible between the tackles and doesn't make many people miss. He's best suited as a kickoff specialist, where he can make some big plays with straight-line speed...if he still has it after all the injuries.

we will find out late in the season to see how he's used by the Aints.

he has shown flashes but not enough to be called a SS

to be fair, a 3 year run with 500 carries averaging 5.3 YPC and 115 catches at 8 ypc is a pretty good flash.

thats 615 touches for 3651 yards over 3 years even with the issuses with injury, marrone, the line, our lack of qb, etc....

I am going to miss CJ. The only consolation, for me, is that he went to a team that I can root for. I think he will be great in the New Orleans offense...as different as it may be this year.

I think Spiller will be good in the Saints offense but Sean Payton will hold him back as he does all his backs by constantly rotating them in and out

Perhaps, but the Saints offense could look a bit different this year. They have really lost a lot, but seem to have re-tooled... I think Payton is a smart enough coach to succeed with the pieces he has, rather than trying to cram a circle into a square...

If he remains healthy, he'll have a big year. Good coaching would have brought out the best in him, rather we had the Marrone era plow up the middle with no blocking.

My guess is if healthy, he'll have 1200 yards rushing 500 yards receiving and 8 td's.

Nfl.com suggests Spiller will enter the upper echelon of talent this year. It wouldn't surprise me as our coaching staff had zero clue as to how to use him. In fact it's amazing that Hackett has a job at all. Still, as I root for the dude to do well, it will be bittersweet if this happens.

Payton has shown to be one of the best if not the best in the business in getting his running backs into space and utilizing it well...Bush, Sproles, etc, all succeeded in his system. He is similar to Gailey in that regard, so I would look for Spiller to really showcase what he can do well...

its a shame our coaches were clueless as how to use him after Gailey left, he could have been a great one, and was simply unstoppable the last year Gailey was here...

Spiller seems like a very nice guy. However, he was a stupid draft selection and a so-so player, talent notwithstanding. I am glad to see him leave the team and replaced with a far superior player.

I def agree with you that McCoy is def the better player w/o question. In fact I think Spiller is a poor mans McCoy as I've said before. We got better in that regard although I wouldn't mind still having Spiller in the building (if salary cap wasn't an issue), he was an absolute beast when Gailey got him the ball in screens and such and a specimen at that. Why Hackett never utilized this is exactly why he couldn't Hackett.

Totally agree. It's a shame, the guy wanted to be here, but wasn't in the right system to flourish. Some of it was his fault but I think he will def make it back to the tops of fantasy boards in 2016.

Maybe Dabo Swinney, Chan Gailey, and the recently departed Bills coaches knew more about CJ than some would give them credit for. Spiller never touched the ball more than 260 times in 9 D1/NFL seasons which seems to indicate he wasn't durable enough to be an every-down back.

The guy either "needed a blow" or was constantly getting dinged up. Not much of a return on a top 10 pick, especially when he's the first pick to begin a major rebuild.

Safe bet: Spiller will make a couple of big plays for the Saints this year.

Less safe bet: Spiller will be consistently productive throughout the year.

I would gladly take odds on the less safe bet if you have them. Spiller got paroled from a crappy offensive coaching staff to one of the best in the NFL. It sucks because he is a great dude but the McCoy trade was the best thing to ever happen to his career.

Payton, who has had real success in the NFL, caters to his players' strengths. Crazy concept I know. Spiller is the best all around rb Payton has ever had. Sproles was a bit player before NO. Barring injury, a real concern for Spiller, he will have a monster year. And it will be another strike against what a joke our offense was under Marrone.

Sproles was really good in SD.

I've been wanting to make a topic about this but never got around to it. Spiller is going to tear it up with the Saints. I think the main reason for this is defenses have to majorly respect the ability of Brees. I'm not sure a ton more could have been done to use him properly here as teams were able to focus on him as they did not fear our QB play. I'm rooting for him. But you're right it will be bitter sweet. I do think he will have a huge year though.
