I don't get it. spiller is such a far superior back. Brown has had 3 games in 39 and in one of the games he fumbled twice. So he has that going for him. KOKBILLS Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 I've very clearly been a harsh critic of CJ's since the minute we drafted him...But I also recognize what he is capable of doing on a football field...And he is capable of a lot... CJ should be utilized like Darren Sproles...He's should be a specialty back who catches the ball as much, if not more, than he runs it...and a return guy...Look at Sproles stats from 2010-2013...238 rushing attempts, 291 receptions...I don't think it's a coincidence that there were reports of interest by Chip Kelly before he traded for Sproles...Kelly knows what Spiller should be... From what I've heard out of Whaley lately it seems to me the Bills have every intention of at least trying to get Spiller back at a decent price...And I'm guessing (well...maybe I'm praying) that means they understand how he has to be used from this point on...I also think CJ's preference is to stay in Buffalo...Granted Rex and Roman would like to pound it...And I think they will...But I also hope if Spiller does return they are smart enough to recognize what Spiller could mean to an Offense if properly used...He's not an every-down back...I don't even think he's a great fit as a back-up...I do think he's a weapon and a potential match-up nightmare if properly utilized...We've all seen what Spiller can do when a play fits his skills...He can still be dynamic...He can still be a game-breaker...But if he's going to be used the way Marrone and the boy wonder used him he's never going to be consistently effective...I think Rex and Roman are smarter... We'll see soon enough I guess...As much as I've been frustrated by CJ over the years I really like the kid a lot and I would love to see him placed into a system that properly uses his skills and hides his weaknesses...I hope that system is in Buffalo...But at the moment I'd give it no more than a 50/50 chance of happening... zonabb Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Speed isn't a skill set. If it were a lot of 5'10" WRs this team has drafted would be all pros. Can't wait to move on from Spiller. Lacks the true skill determined expected of legit feature back, namely vision, willingness to cut up field into a hole, toughness, strength, and occasional pass blocking. Even Travis Henry Burned Buffalo after leaving town. So what did the Buffalo Bills do ? Dump the runner who AVERAGED six yards per carry a couple of years ago, the last time they had an OC who did not have his head up his fundament, because "we're not running that system." We still need him but we need him at the right price. We also need to monitor the Murray situation, I wouldnt be surprised to see Peterson end up in Dallas and Murray be available.. Yes,” owner Jerry Jones recently explained. “But if you just look at it from the standpoint of dollars and cents, it probably doesn’t look reasonable.” Running backs aren't gonna be given the big money they got in the past. If we're going to battle next year with the same guards we had this year, then we don't need CJ and he won't want us anyway. There are people on this board that think you can just sign a late round draftee or an undrafted F.A. & then simply plug them in. Although I don't think that one has to draft a RB in the 1st round, there are differences that the very good RB's possess. Just watch the replays of the Steelers, Bell, Watch how he patiently allows his line to create very small creases & then pops the run for 10 yards. The replays from behind the Steelers during the Tn game was especially enlightening. Spiller has speed - period. IMHO he is a below average runner & even in a Sproles type role, will never be a Sproles. Since you don't want your running back to be primarily a pass catcher and since the Bills have less than a steller offensive line, say goodbye to him. It wasn't a great marriage. He's never had even a good OL and he averaged 6.0 a carry one year and 5.0 for his career with terrible lines. I'm so sick of people saying stuff like you just did.
