A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particular order.....

The entire production team was atrocious. My favorite moment was when he was lining up for his last field goal, and they flashed a stat that he was 1 for 2, missing from 42 and hitting from 20. Uh, geniuses...he hit a 55-yarder, what game are you watching?

 

i dont know if mentioned anywhere, but for much of the second quarter every player stat on the ticker was "----- griffin" so around the league youd get "adrian griffin 43 rushing yards" "aaron griffin 200 passing yards and 14 tds"

 

it took them a good hour to notice and in turn fix it.

I was at the game and a group of 4 guys - who were totally into the game throughout - got up and left just before the final drive. I told them they'd be kicking themselves when EJ drove the Bills to his first-ever 4th quarter comeback.

Hey, you know, we've been Buffalo Billed so many times that I understand them, but they did miss one of the best moments in Bills history since the Pats win.

This^ Fox was absolutely a joke yesterday.. it was amazing to me how bad the broadcast was in it's entirety.. From the announcing of player names incorrectly, botching the scroll, limited replays, and overall commentary was that of a high school game. Didn't seem like the multi-Billion dollar NFL. Makes me appreciate CBS.

5. I was more upset with the two fades that were called from the Carolina 2 yard line. That is Fred Jackson territory. Was happy to see him get the ball from there on the next possession. Result? TD!

yup - became painfully obvious on the replay where the only cameras they had were from the opposite side of the field and what i think may have been the blimp at the manning bowl accidentally looking our direction.

 

this was treated as a throwaway game for them (which i get, in the grand scheme), but the ticker was national. it was sloppy all around. camera men, announcers, producers.

I can't believe there isn't more of a stink about the difference in camera levels between games. That can, and I am sure has, impact the outcome of a game, given how important replays are now (both for the red flags and the mandatory reviews of plays).

 

They should write into the tv contracts a minimum number of cameras.

1) Kyle Williams impressed the hell out of me. Coming into this game, I viewed him as a player who was all but finished. Want to talk about effort? The man gave everything he had in this football game.

 

2) Speaking of "Williams," Aaron Williams played very well imo in spite of that one incredibly stupid out of bounds hit.

 

3) There are just so many posters on this great site who do more work on the draft than I do. That said, Robert Woods was my favorite wide receiver in this draft. This kid is going to be great. He loves playing football and is SMART. I am thrilled by his performance today. Aside from his 68 yards receiving, he made no mistakes on special teams. We are going to have fun watching this kid.

 

4) Mario Williams earned his money today. He played at a superstar level, and is my favorite NFL player due to what he does off of the football field. He donates huge dollars to the Houston Police Department. That's enough for me.

 

5) I must say, I am furious about the play calling at the end of the second quarter. They RAN the football in a hurry up, and gave the Panthers the football with 2:07 left. This was idiotic. There is NO FREAKING WAY they should have afforded them an extra time out (the deuce). This cost us points, and almost the game. So who do we blame? The OC or Marrone? Either way, this was totally unacceptable.

7) OK, I was seriously pissed off when the Bills attempted a 55 yard field goal. Especially after the miss from 42. What do I know lol? And not for nothing, the last one he made was insane. Watching it, I thought it was 8 or 10 yards short.

 

8) Hey, I never complain about announcers, nor much else about telecasts. But today, I think that the camera man was on drugs. He was missing key shots. Am I the only one who noticed this?

 

9) EJ? His numbers were very good, and his potential is beyond limit. That said, count me as one who believes that he will need to run it himself to achieve his full potential, which imo is good enough to win a superbowl.

 

10) The OL played well today. Imo, the player who did the best work on this unit was Urbik. He looks to be in great physical shape, and he kicked some ass in this football game. Again, the camera work was bad; I welcome opinions on this comment.

 

11) Spiller did his job today. He gave us long gains, key first downs and didn't cough up the football.

 

12) Bills Fans are the best fans of any team in any sport.

 

13) Kiko is going to be a flat out star.

 

14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Pettine is the story of the season for Buffalo, IMO. He has these players in position and inspired to make plays.

 

Great games from Mario, Kyle, Kiko, McKelvin and Stevie.

 

Offensive line gave excellent protection again.

 

Clutch smart plays by the offense on the final drive and a great call by Hackett to win it.

 

Disappointed with EJ's downfield accuracy. Those missed plays would have put this game away much earlier.

 

The Bills far outplayed Carolina today, it shouldn't have been this close.

 

Thumbs down to Marrone's 4th down decisions. He played not to lose and the net result was Dick Jauron-esque.......a very close game in the 4th quarter at home against a team they should have put away much earlier. He undermined Pettine today. The decision to kick the 55 yard field goal when your defense is beating the daylights out of the Carolina OL was no better than a preposterous punt. That is 4 down territory at home against a team you have on the ropes. If this team had started out 0-2 at home it would have been very discouraging. Play to win, Marrone.

Luckily he was up against a coach who did his best Jauron imitation - Rivera. For the life of me, I don't understand how NFL lifers don't understand basic NFL clock management. Agree with this 100%. Pettines scheme and what he is doing with this defense is truly remarkable thus far. There is no greater story than the defense. It's the only reason we had a chance to win either of these first two games.

This topic was discussed on WGR with Joe Buscaglia. He agreed with your perspective. He emphasized that when you have a qb as big as Cam and as effective at running the ball as this monster sized qb is then the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor to gain the first down and win the game . It is understandable in not wanting your qb to run too often but at that crucial point in the game you have to use your assets or let them go to waste.

McKelvin did play well yesterday. In fact, late in the first quarter he defended a pretty deep pass at the last second, and this was a simply great play.

But I must say, he still scares me.

I know what you mean - his first 4 years body of work was unimpressive to say the least in the secondary. However, I thought he began to play much better toward the end of last year and has been great so far in the first two games. He did a tremendous job on Steve Smith yesterday. He broke up passes, tackled soundly when he did not break it up, and generally frustrated Smith and Newton all day. 5 catches for Smith - great job. Had to be targeted 3X that much. What scares me is the other side without Gilmore and Brooks. A good QB and receiver would have eaten them alive on that side. They were fortunate Ginn had only one long touchdown - he was always open.
