Gordio
Taking my annual trip to Vegas for the Super Bowl. Did not go last year, first time I missed it in six years. Really missed it. Going with 4 of my friends. My one friend got a 3 bedroom suite at the Flamingo. Never stayed there so not sure how nice it is there but hey the price was right, which is to say it was free so I can't complain. Cashed in my frequent flyer miles so my ticket was also free so this trip has cost me nothing that is to say until I hit the crap/blackjack tables Friday afternoon. For the Super Bowl we got tickets to the Flamingos super bowl party. Not sure what that is all about. It is on one of their top floors I believe & my friend that got the tickets said it is open bar & they have a ton of food so I guess we are going to do that. All day Saturday we will hang out at the sports book in the Mirage & when I say all day I mean all day. We will get there probably 8:30 am & not leave until the Gonzaga/San Diego game is done which will probably be around 10:30 pm or so. I will probably bet about $1,500 worth of college basketball games that Saturday. Should be a nice little weekend. Looking forward to it.

Just Jack
Anyone ever watch a Superbowl on a cruise ship? I'm hoping it'll be fun. Feb 2007, Bears vs Colts. We were outside Australia, so for us it was live at 10am on Monday. They showed it in the main theater on a big screen, along with TVs in your cabin. Outside the theater they had pizza, wings, etc. It was an ESPN International feed though, so we didn't get to see the commercials like the US gets. We'll be on the east coast, sailing down from New York City on Sunday, so should get the US feed I would assume.

IDBillzFan
Same answer I give every year: staying home and watching the game without company. I have a good friend who has a big party every year, and dozens of people show up and bring food and they have pools and squares and if you're one of those people who doesn't care about football as a game, it's a great time. But about five or six years ago, I couldn't take it any more. I like the game. I want to watch every play without someone trying to talk to me about a movie they saw last week or showing me pictures of their kid. And worst of all, the only time everyone shuts the hell up is when the commercials are on. We stay home. Eat what we want. Pause and rewind when we want. And enjoy the game without having to bother with, y'know, other people.

KD in CA
Another chilling tale of suburban ennui. JW Same here; will put the girls to bed at 7:00, go down and finish my wings and start watching the game around 7:30. After fast forwarding through the network promos and halftime idiocy I should catch up to real time in the 3Q. I made the mistake of watching the game at my sister's house last year. Never again. IDBillzFan
Another chilling tale of suburban ennui. JW Now that's just damn funny. In all seriousness, people don't realize the difference between these two teams. If the Ravens win, you can count on downtown Baltimore turning crazy. Probably a car or two flipped over. Maybe a police car on fire. But if the 49'ers win, everyone in San Francisco will turn crazy by wearing their leather chaps and pouring their 2005 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec without giving it enough time to breathe and then running to Nordstroms to try on clothes but not put them back on the hanger. Okay, in fairness the leather chaps are not that crazy for SFO.
PaattMaann
we always have a little shin dig at our place....just making lots of apps, no "main meal" as we have done in the past (home made meatball sammies one year, pulled pork one year, and last year was about 20 home made pizzas) the girls go in one room and chit chat, and the men swill beer and watch the game as our classy women dote on us

Thniking about doing beef on a kummelweck this year and really blow their minds. I'm considering Beef on 'Weck sliders as my "dish to pass" at the party. I'll do a roast in the slow-cooker and put some dinner rolls in the oven with egg wash to hold to some kosher salt & caraway seeds. Bring along some fresh prepared horseradish and I'm done. But I'll probably get lazy and do a multi-layered dip with tortilla chips. That always works.

Yeah can't bneat the location, that area especially across the street is my favorite part of the strip. We usually stay at Harrah's because my father-in-law always gets me a couple free rooms but my friend came thru with the suite at the Flamingo thru his work so we decided to try that out. Harrah's is nothing special but they always treated us pretty good & I do kind of like their sports book. My wife told me she loves the Flamingo's pool(she stayed there a few years back with some of her friends) but most of the pools are not even open that time of year(temps are usually only around 60. My wife always tells me why don't you & your friends go there when the weather is nicer & I always tell her because we love betting college basketball & there is too much drinking to be done to worry about going swimming. Fezmid
Not really, other than the unlimited food. It's basically watching the SB in a movie theater. Just got back from the cruise (and subsequent NYC vacation). It was kind of cool watching the Superbowl with all of the different people. They also gave out pompoms and football clappers to everyone which was kind of fun. The food was underwhelming; I was expecting pizza and wings, but neither were served. We started watching the game on the CBS feed, but it kept cutting in and out. I thought the theater was going to revolt and take over the ship. They claimed it was due to "military bases" on the coast, but that makes absolutely no sense since the signal was cutting in and out the entire trip. They eventually switched the feed to... ESPN India. It was the same CBS broadcast, but instead of watching the US commercials, I got to watch the same 5 commercials advertising cricket and soccer... Wheee.... Sat next to a guy who was a Raven's fan... He was a Jet's fan, but since they've been playing poorly, he's now rooting for the Ravens. He even had a Ray Lewis jersey. How do people switch like that? I don't get it. He was psyched at the end, before the safety, because if the score stayed that way he would've won $500. Then Baltimore took the safety and screwed him out of the money. He was not pleased. I say karma for switching teams. Overall, Superbowl on the ship was ok, but I wouldn't do it for a game I cared about (ie: Buffalo). Now I'll have to go online and find the commercials and see if there were any good ones.
