  1. I'm not a huge fan of the value of this trade for the Bills, but I do like Diggs for this team. He should make a difference and you cannot definitively say the same about a WR picked in the middle or later part of the 1st round. As far as a comparison, the two moves are not quite in the same ball park. Watkins - Drafted #4 overall, by-passing local hero Khilil Mack, and using multiple 1st round picks to move up. Diggs - Essentially used the draft capital equivalent to a mid first round pick. Reasonable contract at $12M per year.
  2. C. Nice player. Great fit. Steep price. Bird in hand. This move saves roughly $6M per year based on the difference of market value and current contract, which is on par with a 1st rounder. Throwing in the 4th and 5th and 4th rounders that we could have used to trade up for good players in earlier rounds makes this a worse than average trade for Buffalo. Knowing that Hopkins was had for essentially a 2nd rounder, that Diggs was not going to stay in Minnesota, and that this draft is deep in WR, makes this a GREAT trade for the Vikings.
  3. Not likely this year, where Star's contract is now fully guaranteed for 2020.
  4. But Maybin had an incredibly fast first step. He got off the ball and into the art studio in a blink.
  5. I think the Bills brass got this mostly right. Not having Lamar Jackson on the board at all due to his play style seems odd. But from their point of view, they probably felt good about Daboll's offense.
  6. Milano's buddy hanging out with coach McD 20 years in the future.
  7. Since 2000... Worst pick: Maybin over Orakpo Honorable mentions: Trade ups for McCargo, Losman, Watkins MgGahee (inj) Merriman Best trade down: 2001 - Traded down a couple picks with Tampa Bay and landed Nate Clements. Then traded down the extra pick and landed Travis Henry - a pick that ended up being quite fruitful - and Brandon Spoon.
  8. I'm not a fan of cutting these guys unless we have replacements that are better or cheaper. But cutting Kroft and Lotulelei would add $13M to 2021 cap space, it's worth considering. It would have a negligible impact on cap space this year, assuming players on small deals replace them (see Knox, Corey Liuget, 2019). Murphy's contract is effectively $8M in 2020 and he is a free agent in 2021. With all position groups, the Bills will try to balance having veteran leadership with having better?, cheaper, and younger players. They are in good cap space to be able to make the right decisions.
  9. Trades work out better for teams that are working the comp pick formulas. A team like the Seahawks can trade a 1st round pick for a guy like Clowney. Then if he leaves after one year, they will at least get back a 3rd rounder. Same for the Patriots (Sanu) and the Ravens (Peters). The same trade to a team not getting comp picks would effectively cost that team more. I personally am hoping for AJ Green plus a defensive end. Dunlap is not a splashy player, but is an extremely solid edge setter and plays with gap responsibility. The other defensive ends listed would improve our team. For the reason stated above, I would not be a fan of trading picks. Player for player trades work out when good players don't fit on their current team.
  10. It's a 2 year $22M contract. If it was Gurley and a 2nd for nothing, I would do it.
  11. a.k.a. "a business". It's true for both the players and owners. If more games means more revenue, it also means higher player salaries (or perhaps more players, or both), and also more game-time fun for fans. The obvious downside is diluting the meaning of a single victory, and by extension diluting the importance of each play.
  12. They could fairly easily do this. 16 games... 6 in London, 6 in Mexico City, 2 in South America, 1 in Hawaii, 1 in Asia.
  13. The OL was not good last year, but there is these stats that's are hard to explain away, except McCoy's product fell off. Murphy: 60/291 4.9 YPA McCoy: 161/514, 3.2 YPA With KC, McCoy averaged 4.6, which is decent and above Williams' 4.5. But I think McCoy's two fumbles mid-season dropped him down. Darwin Thompson plays ST.
  14. Ruggs. 4.2-4.3 speed. High character guy. Someone to keep an eye on at the combine. I am hoping they go for a high octane offense.
  15. Lamar and Greg Roman was an awesome pairing this season. They certainly brought the best out of each other and Lamar should be league MVP - not so much because he can hit targets in a skills competition, but because the defenders rarely can hit him. A Lamar/Roman offense would have been fun here, but we already had a less good version of that offense a few years back. I'm happy watching the Bills develop a top-flight quarterback of their own. There was a picture of the Bills draft board floating around in 2018 and "Wyoming" was their #1. If there was to be a re-draft today, I think the Bills would still have Allen at #1, and if so, I can't blame them.
  16. In 2018, Cleveland ate Osweiler's guarantees for a 2nd round pick from Houston - and trading cap space for draft picks is not a far jump from that scenario. Trading cap for straight up cash may be against the CBA. The CBA and salary cap have minimum spend provisions. And those provisions are meant to make the league competitive. Trading cap space for dollars would work against that goal. So long as the minimum spend provisions are met (without regard to sold cap space), I guess it could work. I would not see this as an oft-used tool. Among other things, it's a bad look for a team.
  17. Lesser known players for the other side Goodwin (inj) Jordan Matthews
  18. SF traded a 2nd rounder (IIRC) for Sanders and drafted another in the 2nd round in 2019. SF has a pro-bowl TE. SF has three good RBs that can all start. SF is good in the trenches. KC has three RBs that can all start. KC has a pro-bowl TE. KC has several playmakers at WR. KC is good in the trenches. The formula is clear. It's nothing new. Good coaching and a decent QB are table stakes. After that, it takes a solid team, that is good in the trenches, that has enough playmakers, and that has solid depth. Dear Bills, Go Get `Em!
  19. Disagree, a bit. 1. Calling more passes and fewer runs has likely accelerated Josh's development as a passer. 2. Often plays were there, but the execution was not.
  20. Of all the possible available FA's, he's your guy? Tennessee seemed to get much better when he was benched. And he wouldn't even start here. Wouldn't you rather have Clowney or Yannick?
  21. This happened at times, but also I saw us blocking 8 rushers with 7 lineman where nobody could beat single coverage or make a contested catch for a long gain. I think having someone like AJ Green on the field stops teams from playing cover zero on critical 3rd downs.
  22. Nearly a perfect pass. Good coverage. He probably makes this catch more than half the time.
