it’s interesting to think back that Cook fumbled on his first regular season touch. He sat for a while after that. He never fumbled again.

It’s simple math. Rush 4 vs 5 blockers, plus, RBs and TEs chipping before going out. Unless you have a Bruce Smith, Nick Bosa, JJ Watt, who can consistently win one-on-one battles and even double teams. Otherwise you need well planned blitzes. Milano gets thru now and then but it seems like when Edmunds does, he gets lost in the blocking. I’d have to say the most effective blitzes in the last few years have been by Taron Johnson from the slot. So, I don’t know that Von Miller was really the unstoppable force for the Bills this season or if he will be going forward. That leaves the 4 vs 5 that hasn’t been very effective.

It’ll be interesting to see what the cap situation is when finalized. Pro Football Focus projects the Bills to be $8M over the cap. Sportac says $16M. I’m sure they’ll try to restructure Allen’s deal by converting salary to signing bonus. Might as well take advantage before the NFL closes that loophole.

Also, look at the YPC. They were very good. Problem was not running enough.
-
Not likely. This is the same team that did nothing when Gronk piledrove on Tre White.

I don’t see a need to make major changes to management or coaching, other than maybe a philosophy change to the offense and defense. If it’s going to be a passing offense, get O-linemen that are strong at pass protection. As someone else had posted, try to make the offense more balanced. If this requires changing coordinators or position coaches, then consider it. For the defense, I would prefer a more aggressive scheme. I’m sick of seeing receivers open all over the field and the frequency of 3rd and very long conversions by the opponent. Lastly, I now believe what I’ve read today that this team was just spent. All the issues they had to deal with just caught up to them and they were mentally and physically exhausted. Sure, the Bengals may now be a better team, but it wasn’t the only reason for Sunday’s performance.

But the defensive line still wasn’t good enough. They’re also going to need a safety since Poyer will probably leave and we don’t know when or if Hamlin will come back. If Edmunds leaves, you need a LB, unless they’re satisfied with Dodson, Bernard and Spector. CB may be the only defensive position not needing reenforcements, with Tre expected to return closer to his past and the 2 rooks to go with Jackson and Johnson.

It seems like there is no specific defensive game plan for an opponent. You don’t often notice that they had their focus to stop any particular part of an opponent’s offense. It seems the same defense every game and just go out and do your 1/11th. When you had an inexperienced QB like Skylar Thompson for Miami, why didn’t you blitz him more instead of relying on a 4 man rush that doesn’t make a consistent difference.

IIRC they both are direct reports to Pegula. Guys, calm down! Have you already forgotten 17 straight years without playoffs? These guys have taken the Bills to the playoffs in 5 out of 6 years and 4 straight!
-
And yet the offense is so complicated that rookie wide receivers aren’t expected to contribute much and veteran receivers need time to learn it?
-
Yeah, the defense and defensive line need coaches in the mold of Carl Mauck. I want to see yelling, red face, veins popping, spit flying. Get these guys playing mean.

Trade Diggs for assets and go to a more controlled ground game.

Enough with the freakin’ Peter Pan! It’s not funny. It’s stupid! -
I was originally going to respond to the OP with ‘’Ditto’ but changed my mind. I also was so disappointed in this game that I was reluctant to come here today, but here I am. As with probably all of you, if this had been a good game but the Bengals just made more big plays, I’d still be disappointed but not as much as I am now. We go thru the year of free agency, the draft, minicamps, preseason with great hopes. The regular season showed some warts but the team still went 13-3. For the season to end this way, it’ll take a while to get over. For some teams with Super Bowl aspirations, a game like this could cause them to go back to the drawing board. I don’t know what this franchise will do. Many of us have been critical of the soft zone defense with some hoping Frazier would get a head coaching job this off-season. With today’s game being the most recent on his resume, I don’t see it happening. So, unless he retires, resigns or Pegula pressures Beane and McD for a fall guy, I don’t see him going anywhere. Bottom line was this team did not look good enough today. Silver lining: this team likely would have really gotten slaughtered in the Super Bowl. Like the OP, time for a break from Bills football, and maybe football altogether. I’ve watched every Super Bowl since V so it could be time to end my streak. Out.

What Would You Rather Do: Cris Collinsworth Edition

Still, to me, nothing will compare to I think a Monday Night game with the Patriots years ago where Teddy Bruschi was on the Pats sidelines, returning after his stroke. As they went to or returned from every break, they had the camera on him. -
How confident are you the Bills beat the Bengals?
BobbyC81 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
Regardless of who comes out of the AFC, I don’t see them beating Philly or the Niners. They both have awesome pass rushes and deep balanced offenses. Buffalo and Cincy have O-line problems that could really crumble. We’ll see what Quinn comes up with for Dallas D to try and confuse Mr Irrelevant. Philly could pose a major problem for the Niners also. -
Still, the Bills have to double team him and stop with that frustrating soft zone. Make someone else beat you. Right. The Bills rush 4 and there are 5 O-linemen and a QB, so that leaves 7 defenders covering 5 possible receivers. You can put 2 on Kelce

Punctuation can be your friend.

Actually, I was listening to some sports talk show a couple weeks ago and they brought up McD as a candidate because of how he got the team thru all the issues. Peter King also mentioned him in FMIA.

Very good write-up on Josh Allen and the Bills this postseason

Yep, Steph Curry is another example. He’ll make some of the most head-scratching turnovers, then nail a 30 foot dagger to close out the game. -
What about his brother Adirondack, aka Ron?

He must use makeup on non-game days. In postgame interviews his cheeks are sunk and he looks bad. Other times it’s not as bad. HALLELUJAH !!!!!!!!
